  Bright notes of cherry, wild strawberry fruit and ripe raspberry are interlaced by hints of spice and earthy notes. This wine is made in a pure fruit-driven style, with supple tannins and reveals a fresh and elegant expression of Pinotage.

  The vineyard is located on the fertile slopes of the Olifantsberg Mountain Range where it endures wide diurnal temperature differences and strong winds, at altitudes from 250 to 450 metres above sea level. During the winter the mountain peaks are snow-covered, keeping the vines dormant for longer. Cold winters, coupled with the summer winds, ensures the slow ripening of the grapes; helps to maintain healthy vines; and contributes freshness and elegance to the wines. The soils in the vineyard comprise a unique sandy shale with a clay subsoil, which lends structure to the resulting wine. The Pinotage trellised vines are 11 years old and are farmed in a sustainable manner.

  2020 The Broken Fishplate Sauvignon Blanc, d’Arenberg

  A flashy sauvignon blanc offering lashings of tropicals such as passionfruit and gooseberry on the highly aromatic nose, boosted by an undercurrent of fresh cut grass and asparagus. The palate is refreshingly crisp and mineral. Vibrant citrus-like acid is a real feature. But this is accompanied by the generosity in flavour and a hint of added texture through some very light-handed oak treatment and a small dose of wild ferment. Balanced and long, served chilled this wine will hit the spot on a warm, sunny day.

  Despite being a good match for fish, the name has nothing to do with them! A fishplate is a term for the nylon plates that collect grape bunches on a harvester and often break when navigating around the steep, windy vineyards.

  The Love Grass 2020 is a Shiraz straight from the d’Arenberg playbook. As a young wine when first opened, it may appear closed, dark and brooding. Tar, earth and black liquorice. Air and time both help to massage out the abundant sweet fruits, blackberry and plum with an undertone of fennel and spice. In a similar way, the palate starts quite muscular and tight but over time relaxes into a more generous juicy wine. As the juicy fruit evolves the initially rustic tannins start to settle into it like sinking into a plush armchair. The strong earth characters are a nod to the organic and biodynamic principles adopted in the vineyard. The character of the fruit is gently supported, rather than dominated, by savoury old oak barrels. All in all, this is a structural wine that over-delivers at the price point and will certainly benefit from decanting whilst rewarding those with the patience to cellar it well for 5 to 10 years

  Lovegrass is a weed that grows in the vineyards and its sticky flowers affectionately attach themselves to vineyard workers’ socks. This Shiraz will linger with you in the same way that the flowers do!

  The grapes for this wine were selected from old vines in the famous wine district of Langhorne Creek.  It has an amazing lifted bouquet of blackberries with a touch of mocha. The ageing in oak for 15 months has enhanced the mouth-feel of this wine, which is rich and smooth and offers a lovely soft finish with polished tannins.
  Best consumed over the next 3-4 years and will drink even more dangerously paired with roast lamb.

The vines are grown on the Roussillon plains where the soils are made up of alluvial marls with black schist, which imparts great aromatic complexity to the wines, characterised by notes of black fruits, garrigue and freshness.   This cool-climate coastal Chardonnay was the brainchild of Trapiche winemaker Daniel Pi and his vision has produced sublime wine.  In the glass, it is a golden colour with slight greenish tones, the nose has notes of green apples, pear and hints of toast and butter. It is fresh in the mouth with a marked mineral presence and a long and unctuous finish.

  Described by Decanter Magazine as ‘a pure style that’s astonishingly affordable.’

  Awarded 97+ points by Oz Clarke who described the 2018 Chardonnay: ‘Up there with the best Chardonnays, I have tasted from Argentina.   The vision was to produce a great white Rhône style blend from the Breedekloof region.    This beautifully layered wine with opulent fruit flavours of white peach, ripe apricot and delicate citrus notes complemented by hints of floral and dried green herbs. The palate is rich, textured and elegant.

  The vineyard is located on the fertile slopes of the Olifantsberg Mountain Range at altitudes from 250 metres to 450 metres above sea level. The vineyards are farmed using sustainable practices, helping to maintain the biodiversity within the vineyard and soils. The Roussanne and Grenache Blanc are young plantings on the estate and are grown on shale soils, the Chenin Blanc is grown on sandstone/shale soils, which lends freshness to the wine. The training is ‘sur eschalas’ in order to maximise the number of vines per hectare and to protect them from strong winds.

  2018 Footbolt Shiraz, d’Arenberg

  This delicious highly regarded shiraz is named after Footbolt, the prize racehorse of Joseph Osborn.  In 1912 Joseph sold his beloved horses to purchase the d’Arenberg property and so the wine making story began.

  In the glass, this 2018 Shiraz has a lifted, aromatic nose with luscious plum and red berry aromas. The palate is soft and cuddly and concludes with some firm tannin and acidity.  There are flavours of mulberry, pomegranate, dried herbs and earth, with a finish that is a little wild and rustic.

  2019 Minervois ‘La Régence’, Domaine La Rouviole

  La Rouviole is located in the renowned Cru La Livinière area of Minervois.  Wines are made from blends of Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan from the best and oldest plots of the estate. 

  This 2019 Minervois ‘La Régence is a full-flavoured and perfumed wine showing notes of ripe cassis with elegant cedar and chocolate notes and a fine, velvety texture.

  The vineyard is located in the heart of the ‘Petit Causse’ terroir, in the Cru La Livinière production area, which lies between Carcassonne, Béziers and Narbonne. The 30-year old vines are grown on the hillside plots, on clay-limestone soil. The clay component retains moisture and nourishes the vines through the warm, summers, while the limestone imparts elegance to the resulting wines. The vineyard is orientated towards a southern exposure, which captures exceptional sunshine, over 300 days per year, which enables the grapes to reach excellent maturity and concentration. The Mediterranean is less than 25 miles away, which influences the vines with cooling oceanic breezes. The vineyard is surrounded by scrubland, with thyme, lavender, rosemary and almond, fig, cherry and olive trees all contributing to the aromatic complexity of the wines. The vineyard is managed using strict organic processes.
