Red WineTenuta Perano is an immaculate estate located in Gaiole, in the heart of the Chianti Classico region and this is their much-lauded top wine, the Gran Selezione or Great Selection.
Rich, ripe blackcurrant and blueberry notes are complemented by spicy hints of black pepper, toasted coffee bean and tobacco. The richness and depth are in perfect harmony with fine, integrated tannins through to a long, opulent finish.
Red WineBold and intense, this mature wine shows pronounced black fruit aromas, combined with hints of walnut, black pepper spice and vanilla. With great intensity of colour and flavour, the fine integrated tannins underpin the complex palate and lead to a long and powerful finish.
This wine is produced from 100% Sangiovese fruit from the 1.33 hectare Poggio di Sant’Enrico Piccolo vineyard and the 3.65 hectare Poggio Sant’Enrico Grande vineyards. These are single vineyards situated at between 300 and 350 metres in elevation on Carpineto’s Chianciano Estate in Montepulciano, with southern exposures on rolling hillsides. The Piccolo vineyard was planted in 1978 and the Grande vineyard was planted in 1995.

The Aglianico grapes are produced in a historic vineyard named “Dal Re”. This historic region of the Apennine countryside is known as Irpinia and it has a unique terroir and climate in which vineyards coexist with fruit trees, olives and aromatic herbs. The winds here divert a beneficial rainfall which creates a microclimate in Irpinia that differs from Campania, the winters though brief are snowy and cold and the summers can be wet and prolonged. The soils are volcanic, sandstone and marl. Each vineyard is closely monitored with a meteorological station, and the technologies of the new state-of-the-art wine cellar ensure that each vintage comes as close to perfection as possible.
Barbaresco Martinenga takes its name from Marchesi di Grésy’s Martinenga vineyard situated in the commune of Barbaresco. This single-vineyard (of 11.93ha) has the shape of an amphitheatre, with Asili to the west and Rabaja to the north-east. These south-southwest facing vineyards have a favourable microclimate, which allows the production of high-quality grapes even in potentially difficult vintages.
‘Rose petals, violets and dark red cherries emerge from the 2010 Barbaresco Martinenga. In 2010 the Martinenga is quite supple, open and generous, with a kick of acidity and brightness on the finish, both signatures of the year. Giugi Sesti grew up in Venice and much of his life has been dedicated to the study of astronomy, on which subject he is a published author. For thirty years Giugi organised an opera festival in Tuscany, whilst refurbishing the hamlet of the Castello di Argiano and its 102 hectares. Now primarily run by his daughter Elisa, the winery Sesti makes world renowned Brunello and seriously good Rosso di Montalcino.
This 2018 Brunello is jaw-droppingly delicious right now, savoury, well structured, rich, full-bodied with blackberry, herbaceous and spicy notes on the nose and the palate.
This is one of the great Barbaresco crus. Asili is a prestigious and historic vineyard located at the top of a hill with a 360 aspect. It produced majestic wines that have an elegance that can be attributed to the terroir. The soils have a bluish colour due to the high content of magnesium and manganese. Michele Chiarlo owns around 1 hectare of this famous cru.
This 2010 Asili has an aristocratic elegance, ethereal, with notes of violet, red fruits and fine spices. The palate is complex and enchanting with silky tannins and a surprising length.
Il Marroneto produce some of the purest and most perfumed expressions of Sangiovese made anywhere. Part of the secret lies in their prime location within Brunello’s traditional top class territory, situated at 450m above sea level with a cool northern exposure. Combined with the much lauded talents of gifted winemaker Alessandro Mori, and it’s clear to see why Il Marroneto are so highly coveted by Montalcino fans worldwide.
Alessandro Mori has always adopted a traditional approach, aiming for elegance and purity, without sacrificing depth or impact in his wines. Organic practices have been used in the vineyards since 1988, while natural fermentation occurs and there is neither fining nor filtration before bottling.
Both the Brunello and the Rosso start their life back at the winery as Brunellos, but during their maturation journey, Alessandro will make the decision to ‘declassify’ several bottis, resulting in a small release of Rosso di Montalcino. Prior to fermentation, the grapes spend around 2 days in steel with regular stirring followed by a slow fermentation and maceration for 3 weeks. The fruit is moved into large Slavonian and French Botti for 24 months then racked off and left to settle in steel for a brief period before bottling and release into the market.
Since 1880 the Roncaglie cru has been recognised as one of the best and most important vineyards for Barbaresco production. Poderi Colla’s Tenuta Roncaglia estate has eight hectares of Nebbiolo under vine, at an altitude of 240-280 metres and benefiting from a southern exposure. This enables the vines to produce clean, ripe fruit that’s hand-picked before being transported to Poderi Colla’s winery in Cascine Drago for vinification and maturation. Tenuta Roncaglia’s wines are some of the finest examples of Barbaresco around.
This is a maturing magnum of Colla’s magnificent Tenuta Roncaglie Barbaresco. Reaching its peak this wine has a blockbuster nose and powerful complex palate with immense structure and grip. This is Nebbiolo at its finest – in a magnum!
Galatrona is a Merlot cru from the ten-hectare vineyard Galatrona planted in during the 1990s with low vigour Bordeaux clones. This is Petrolo’s flagship wine, it is extremely aromatic and has great structure.
This 1998 has aromas of dark berry compote and oaky vanillin, these are brightened by suave floral and spice cake notes. The palate is broad and fleshy but energetic, featuring vibrant blackberry and bitter red cherry flavours that gain weight in the glass. Powerful but very well balanced, with a strong finishing tannic kick and strong hints of underbrush and rosemary.
