Domaine de Coyeux

2008 Muscat de Beaumes de Venise ‘Cuvée Les Trois Fonts’, Domaine de Coyeux – 375ml

Rhône Valley, FranceVintage: 2008

A delicious sweet wine, with notes of lychee, candied apricot and pear, tropical pineapple complemented by honey undertones. Rich, smooth and sweet on the palate, beautifully balanced by freshness and elegance.

The vineyard provides naturally healthy conditions, due to its altitude, exposure to the sun and the microclimate of the vineyard and enables gentle methods of cultivation to be employed, in order to maintain a healthy vineyard. The vines are planted in alluvial, sandy soils. Excessive buds and leaves are removed in the spring to aerate the strains and increase the leaf’s surface area exposed to the sun. Debudding reduces the production of berries and concentrates the flavours and aromas in those remaining. The living soils, where microbial life creates organic soil enrichment, nourishes the vines.

Description

Domaine de Coyeux is a beautifully located winery comprising 130 hectares of vineyards in a one site block, set on a hill in a prime location at Beaumes-de-Venise. The vines are planted at an altitude of 260 metres above sea level, where the soil comes from one of the very rare outcrops of the Comtadine region’s trias. The grapes grown are Syrah, Cinsault, Grenache, Mourvedre and white Muscat.

The grape clusters were hand-picked at optimum maturity. The grapes were transported in 20-kilogram boxes to retain the high quality of the fruit; they were then destemmed and crushed. Pre- fermentation maceration took place at low temperatures of approximately 13°C lasting for four to six hours. The grapes were pressed and left to settle for 72 hours, followed by fermentation in stainless steel vats for four weeks at 8 to 10°C. This traditional style of winemaking results in a concentration of residual sugar of 110 grams per litre.
