Description
The Hattingley Valley vineyard was established by Simon Robinson in 2008 on a north-facing slope atop the chalky soils of Hampshire with a view to making sparkling wines that could compare to the very best of France.
In 2010 he was joined by the affable Emma Rice, a winemaker that Matthew Jukes dubbed “extraordinarily talented”. Her influence and experience have proved invaluable in helping Hattingley rise in a short amount of time to be one of the most awarded producers in England at the forefront of the English sparkling movement. Emma has received the prestigious Winemaker of the Year in the English and Welsh Wine of the Year Competition both in 2014 and in 2016 – the first woman to do so.
Her winemaking style is deeply rooted in the traditions of Champagne, where she combines the extended barrel time and less ageing (minimum of 18 months for this cuvee) of the traditional Méthode Champenoise with the distinctive terroir of southern England.
