Coolart Road is a classic single vineyard site made at Ten Minutes by Tractor.

Our Coolart Road vineyard was planted in 2000 and is situated in the lower, northern part of the Mornington Peninsula. It has a gentle north-easterly sloping aspect facing Western Port and Phillip Island.

Coolhart is picked earlier than the other Ten Minutes vineyards and is made with more whole bunches.   This 2018 has an impish energy to it that makes it perhaps the most approachable Pinot Noir in the range when young.  Full of cherry fruit with a dash of vanilla and tomato leaf, it’s even and spicy with just a hint of jam. Love the open fruit of this vintage, yet with a spicy finish too.

The almost smoky edge would make this perfect with a smoky bresaola charcuterie platter.

Description

Ten Minutes by Tractor started in 1997 with three vineyards in Main Ridge, all ten minutes by tractor apart. Over the past 18 years, Martin and Karen Spedding have added four more vineyards that have a diverse range of microclimates from across the Mornington Peninsula. Each of these vineyard sites features different aspects, slopes, soils, altitude and influence of the cool maritime breezes that wind their way through the valleys.

This terroir and sense of place explain everything about their wines. Cool places. Beautiful places. Places that are defined by the wines they make and which can seem worlds apart. The refinement and vibrant acidity of Wallis; the elegance and poise of McCutcheon; the alluring aromatics and fine structure of Judd; the power and fruit purity of Coolart Road.

Each vineyard is intimately linked to its place. These little differences; in soil, slope, aspects and all the other things that make their vineyards distinct mean that while they may be ten minutes by tractor from each other, they are a world apart.

Grapes hand-harvested in mid February and, on arrival at the winery, 100% destemmed. A 3-7 day pre-ferment maceration preceded a 100% indigenous yeast fermentation with manual plunging throughout, followed by a short post-ferment maceration (a total of 15-25 days on skins). Following pressing and a short settling period the wine was transferred to 20% new French oak barriques. After a natural 100% MLF with warmer temperatures in spring, the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered following a total of 12 months of oak maturation
