Anthonij Rupert Wyne

L`Ormarins MCC Brut, Anthonij Rupert Wyne

Western Cape, South AfricaVintage: NV

L’Ormarins Brut Classique MCC is a sparkling wine that hails from the Western Cape of South Africa. It boasts a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, which are harvested by hand and fermented separately before being blended and bottled. The resulting wine is a delicate balance of fruitiness, minerality, and acidity, with hints of pear, green apple, and citrus. It’s a perfect pairing for seafood, white meat, and salads, and a great choice for celebratory toasts or special occasions. This MCC is a testament to the quality of South African sparkling wine, making it a must-try for any wine lover.

In the glass, it has a fine bead and string of pearl bubbles. Aromas of tarte tatin apple and cinnamon with a light pear drop and biscuit nuance. Bright vivacious and crisply zesty in the mouth. Tangy lime and green apple crunch with a richer, deeper, biscuit and sourdough undertone. The zingy citrus and creamy lees flavours are well balanced with acidity and fruit in complete harmony. It is poised and elegant with a lingering aftertaste.

Anthonij Rupert Wyne was founded on the farm, L`Ormarins in Franschhoek. Originally owned by the late Anthonij Rupert, who passed away in 2001, the farm was eventually taken over by his brother Johann Rupert in 2003 and the brand named after him. It was Johann Rupert who constructed a state-of-the-art winemaking facility, catapulting the farm into a prestigious wine estate and the beginnings of what is now a sprawling enterprise.

The focus is on terroir-specific wines and therefore it would seem obvious that the brand is made up of an impressive portfolio of farms representing the best in grape-producing locations. The portfolio is made up of L`Ormarins from Franschhoek, Rooderust from Darling, Riebeeksrivier from the Swartland and Altima from isolated Elandskloof. Each site offers optimum varietal-specific growing conditions, allowing Anthonij Rupert Wyne to adhere to the requirements of their different brands.

The grapes are picked early in the morning and whole-bunch-pressed. The free-run juice and press components are always kept separate. The juice is then settled and inoculated with yeast for fermentation. After fermentation, the wine is racked off the lees. The wine is then blended, and the second fermentation begins. Bottled wine is kept at 13C-15C for an even second fermentation. The wine is aged on its lees in the bottle for 2-3 years. We add dosage during the disgorging process, and the bottles are kept for about 3 months after disgorging before being released.
