  The 2024 Village Chardonnay captures the hallmark precision and vibrancy of Kumeu River, crafted from fruit sourced primarily from the limestone-rich soils of Kumeu’s Rays Road vineyard in Hawke’s Bay.  Fermented 84% in seasoned French oak barriques and 16% in stainless steel, this wine offers an elegant balance of subtle texture and bright, expressive fruit.

  On the nose, lively aromas of lime zest, lemon blossom and white peach are lifted by a flinty, mineral edge and delicate fig nuances. The palate is fresh and focused, with a linear citrus drive, moderate alcohol (12.5%) and a lovely chalky texture that speaks of its Hawkes Bay site. The finish is crisp and mouthwatering, leaving a refreshing trail of citrus and wet stone.

  Charming and vibrant in its youth, the 2024 Village Chardonnay is ideal as an aperitif and shines alongside seafood, shellfish and light poultry dishes.

With 74% of the fruit sourced from Rays Road and 26% from Kumeu, this Pinot Noir combines the elegance and minerality of high-altitude clay-limestone soils with the depth and roundness typical of Auckland fruit.

  Bright cherry-red in colour, the wine opens with lifted aromas of fresh red berries and subtle floral notes. The palate is vibrant and silky, revealing juicy red fruit flavours framed by a fine chalky tannin structure and a refreshing, dry finish. Elegant, pure, and easy-drinking, this Pinot is a versatile companion to a wide range of dishes, from charcuterie to roasted poultry.

  The evocatively named Kidnapper’s Chardonnay takes its name from Hawke’s Bay’s dramatic headland of Cape Kidnappers. It is made with grapes grown at Te Awanga, where the cool coastal breezes enhance Chardonnay’s acidity and fresh flavours, translating here to a medium-bodied, crisp style with ripe peach aromas and complex layered aromas of cedar and spice.   This is Craggy Range’s answer to Chardonnay from Chablis.

  2020 Rays Road Pinot Noir, Kumeu River

  Crafted from the finest section of Kumeu River’s limestone-rich Rays Road vineyard, the 2020 Pinot Noir showcases the exceptional character and elegance that this unique site can deliver. Planted with a selection of superior clones in 2008, the vineyard’s elevated location and mineral-laced soils provide the perfect conditions for producing expressive, site-driven Pinot Noir.

  Bright ruby in colour, the wine opens with fragrant aromas of ripe red cherries, wild strawberries, and delicate floral notes. Subtle undertones of dry leaf and forest floor add nuance and complexity. The palate is supple and silky, with finely woven tannins and a graceful structure. A core of vibrant red fruit is balanced by a refreshing acidity and a distinctive limestone edge, giving the wine a sense of tension and finesse.

  Aged for 12 months in French oak (10% new), this Pinot Noir delivers depth without excess, and a long, savoury finish that speaks to both place and pedigree. Delicious in its youth, it also has the potential to evolve beautifully over the next 5–7 years.

  2023 Rays Road Chardonnay, Kumeu River

  The 2023 Rays Road Chardonnay represents a new benchmark for this distinctive limestone hillside vineyard in Hawke’s Bay. Hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed, the wine was fermented with indigenous yeasts in seasoned French oak barrels, allowing the purity of the site to shine through without oak influence.

  Aromatically vibrant and lifted, the nose reveals crystalline citrus, subtle florals, and a flinty minerality that is fast becoming the hallmark of Rays Road. On the palate, it offers remarkable concentration and textural finesse, with layers of lemon zest, white stone fruit, and saline complexity. A core of bright acidity drives the wine through to a long, mineral finish.

  This is the most complete expression of Rays Road to date, delicious now, yet destined to evolve gracefully over the next 5–7 years.
