  This is the 4th vintage of this exceptionally popular English Chardonnay, which has bowled over critics and wine lovers alike.  Made from exclusively estate-grown grapes, the Gravel Castle Chardonnay is a zesty, fruit-driven and unoaked Chardonnay, created from Burgundian still wine clones.  It displays fresh, citrus aromas, refreshing tropical fruit flavours and a smooth, textured palate.

  Simpsons Wine Estate is situated in the Elham Valley; an unspoilt seam in the North Downs of Kent where the contours of the land, the climate and the soil are excellent for viticulture. The intensely lime-rich chalk soil forms part of the same chalk ridge that stretches from southern England through Champagne and on to Burgundy. The grapes come from the Roman Road vineyard, named after the route the Romans first marched when invading England in AD 43.  They are grown on south-facing slopes, ensuring heat accumulation in the day and cold air drainage at night.   Created from exclusively estate-grown and hand-picked Pinot Meunier grapes, this intriguing and truly unique ‘blanc de noirs’ was carefully vinified as a white wine. This is the third release of this wine.  It has a delicate rose gold hue and intriguing floral and orchard fruit aromas.  It displays sweet and savoury flavours of poached winter fruit with balsamic nuances and a luxuriously mouth-filling texture.

  2020 ‘Roman Road’ Chardonnay, Simpsons Wine Estate

  Exuding a true sense of place, the Roman Road Chardonnay is elegant and pure, with a distinctive mineral quality that you would expect from fruit grown on the iconic chalk terroir of the Kentish North Downs.

  Pale straw hued, with a complex matrix of tropical and citrus fruit, subtle butterscotch and flint on the nose, this Chardonnay shows excellent, ripe fruit intensity balanced with an elegant minerality, fresh citrus flavours and touches of cedar.

  The 2018 vintage was awarded a Platinum Medal and the highest accolade of “Best in Show” in the Decanter World Wine Awards 2020. This title is only bestowed upon the top 50 wines entered into what is the largest and most influential, international wine competition.  The 2020 vintage is a very worthy follow-up, reflecting the superb growing season and harvest of that year.
