2023 ‘1753’ Viognier, Château de Campuget

    £1695

An elegant Viognier with hints of nectarine, ginger and honeysuckle. Precise, crisp and balanced on the palate, with a roundness of generously structured fruit and a long, elegant finish.

The vineyard that this Viognier comes from is situated 15 kilometres south of Nîmes, near the village of Manduel, in the heart of the ‘Appellation d’Origine Protégée’ of the Costières de Nîmes. The average age of the vines is about 25 years. The main characteristic of the vineyard is the soil, which is formed of ‘gress’, an accumulation of rounded pebbles that have been deposited by the overflowing Rhône River thousands of years ago. These pebbles allow the vines to grow in the best possible conditions and due to this natural soil filter; the vine’s roots can easily draw the necessary water for their growth. The vines also benefit from the Mediterranean sunshine, which brings the grapes to perfect maturity and allows them to be picked at maximum phenolic maturity which assured elegance in the resulting wine.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2023-les-temps-est-venu-blanc-stephane-ogier/">2023 Les Temps Est Venu Blanc, Stephane Ogier</a> White Wine

2023 Les Temps Est Venu Blanc, Stephane Ogier

    £1850

Perched above the Rhône River in Ampuis, Domaine Stéphane Ogier has risen to international acclaim as one of the most dynamic estates in the northern Rhône. Known for elevating Côte-Rôtie to new heights, Ogier brings a Burgundian sensitivity to terroir and a precise, modern approach to every wine he crafts. In recent years, his work in the southern Rhône has been just as compelling, focusing on wines that express brightness, balance, and drinkability without sacrificing complexity.

Les Temps Est Venu Blanc 2023 (meaning “The Time Has Come”) is Ogier’s beautifully made southern Rhône white, a blend of Grenache Blanc, Clairette, and Roussanne, sourced from organically farmed vineyards in the Vaucluse. The wine is vinified with the same care as his crus, native yeast fermentation, gentle pressing, and a focus on preserving freshness and purity.

In the glass, the wine reveals vibrant aromas of white peach, pear, citrus blossom, and almond, framed by delicate hints of wild herbs and crushed stone. The palate is fresh, textural, and precise, with lively acidity lifting notes of lemon zest, green apple, and subtle honeysuckle, all wrapped in a fine mineral tension. The finish is clean, elegant, and subtly saline, making it both food-friendly and utterly drinkable.

2014 Côte-Rôtie, Maison Rouge, Georges Vernay

    £11000

Although Domaine Georges Vernay has built its reputation around its excellent Condrieu white wines, its reds should not be neglected, especially ones from the Côte-Rôtie. From a 5 ha plot of vines, Vernay’s Côte-Rôtie is amongst the most exceptional wines from the same appellation. Thanks to a perfectly mastered elegant wine style, Christine Vernay successfully expresses the elegance and depth of syrah; never over maturing or over ageing.

The name of the wine refers to a small red house situated at the foot of this impressively steep “lieu dit” or registered plot of ‘Maison Rouge’. The vineyards are made up of two hectares of sandy, granite terraces located in the southern part of the appellation. Trained according to the Guyot simple method, the vines have an average age of 50 years and they have been planted to a density of 10,000 vines per hectare.
