  Reminiscent of the old mountain Garnacha vineyards, this delivers complex aromas of blackberry, plum, fig and thyme, with subtle nuances of balsamic and oak spice. With smooth tannins, the full palate is framed by an intense concentration of fruit through to a harmoniously balanced finish.

  The grapes for this cuvee come from a selection of old Garnacha vines that are over 60 years old, which produce low yields of concentrated fruit. The vineyards are located in the hills of the Sierra Santa Cruz where the soils are quartzite and slate, which offer heat retaining properties during the cooler nights of this hilly location.

  An elegant expression of Garnacha with effortless notes of raspberry, sweet and sour cherry laced with distinctive minerality. Smooth with a savoury note on the palate, this is full of finesse.

  The grapes come from old Garnacha vines that are grown at high altitudes, ranging from 800 to 1,000 metres elevation. The extreme climate of hot days and cool evenings promotes a long, ripening period concentrating the flavours and aromatic complexity of the grapes.

  2018 Las Fincas Blanco 2 Garnachas , Chivite Family Estates

  Chivite Las Fincas Blanco 2 Garnachas is a barrel-fermented white wine made by the Chivite winery with the Garnacha Tinta and Garnacha Blanca grape varieties.  This unique wine is the result of various rosé winemaking experiment, during which they discovered a melting pot of aromas, textures and hues, some colourless, authentic Blanc de Noirs, with captivating and exotic aromas. This gave them the idea of creating a new white wine made solely from the Garnacha Tinta. The blend needed rounding out and something that would give the wine a bit more complexity on the nose so that came with the addition of a proportion of Garnacha Blanca fermented in barrel.

  The result is a wine that bears all the hallmarks of the Chivite wines and is therefore typical of the Legardeta estate, with an emphasis on acidic tension that brings freshness and balances the smoothness with a complex and nuanced bouquet.

  Limite Sur is a 100% Garnacha from Ramón Bilbao’s parcel of vineyards in Sierra de Yerga in the south of Rioja. It is designed to show the richness and diversity of the Rioja by bringing Rioja’s “forgotten grapes” to life as well as highlighting the possibilities of areas of Rioja once considered to be hard to grow high-quality grapes.
  In the glass, you find intense and complex aromas of red, fresh fruit, flowers and pink pepper. These flavours continue through to the palate that has soft tannin, harmony and balance. The finish is long and satisfying. The perfect companion for red meat, cured meat and cheeses.

  “In my 22 years with Ramón Bilbao, I’ve explored all four corners of my home region and am still doing so,” said head winemaker Rodolfo Bastida. “So much has changed in that time, particularly the climate. What was once impossible for grapes in the north now gives freshness and zest; where Garnacha was a lost grape in Rioja, it now makes elegant, fruit-driven reds when grown at altitude,” he said.
