  • 2018 Beaune 1er Cru ‘Clos du Roi’, Chateau de SantenayRed Wine

2018 Beaune 1er Cru ‘Clos du Roi’, Chateau de Santenay

    £5150

Taken from the Clos Du Roi 1er Cru vineyard, this Pinot demonstrates the best of the Beaune sub-region and is known for its wonderful ageing potential.

The 2018 Chateau de Santenay Beaune 1er Cru “Clos du Roi” is very dark deep garnet in the glass. The nose is concentrated with ripe black fruit married with delicate oak characters. The palate is full-bodied with elegant and big tannins. The freshness of the fruit and complexity make this a remarkable wine with great finesse and style.

This Premier Cru vineyard takes its name from the fact that it was claimed by King Louis XI during the 15th Century following the death of Charles the Bold, the last Duke of Burgundy. The soils here are free-draining with a mixture of clay and sand, and a subsoil that has a high limestone content. This forces the roots of the vine to dig deep to find the vital nutrients and water they need, which in turn results in a high concentration of flavour within the fruit.

  • 2018 Pommard, Domaine Georges GlantenayRed Wine

    2018 Pommard, Domaine Georges Glantenay

The Pommard is sourced from three different plots located in the commune of Pommard. The oldest plot has 80-year-old vines which produce small yields of concentrated grapes. The soils are marl and limestone with a chalky marl subsoil. The crops are tended to by hand and are consistently monitored during the year in order to keep the number of treatments required to a minimum.

2016 Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Les Marchais, Domaine Pierre Naigeon

    £6495

The 55-year-old vines are grown in the single vineyard ‘Les Marchais’ which faces the 1er Cru plots of Lavaux St Jacques and clos St Jacques. It is one of the best plots in Gevrey Chambertin.  Alluring raspberry and cherry with notes of dried fruits on the nose. Medium to full-bodied with a little earthiness, this well-structured wine shows balanced oak, with fine ripe tannins. Silky and smooth on the palate this is classically elegant.

The Guyot trained vines are planted at a high density with 3,500 vines per hectare. The vineyards are managed using organic fertilisers and without the use of herbicides or insecticides. Ploughing, pruning and green harvests all take place. The vineyard soils are made up of clay and limestone with large chalky pebbles.

  • 2007 Beaune 1er Cru Champs Pimont, Domaine Jacques PrieurcrasRed Wine

2007 Beaune 1er Cru Champs Pimont, Domaine Jacques Prieurcras

    £9500

At full maturity and drinking beautifully.  Beguiling, rich and stays in the palate for an age.  The grapes for this wine come from a large plot with the evocative name of “Les Champs au pied du Mont” (“The Fields at the Foot of the Mountain”), located on the slope overlooking the outskirts of Beaune. This vineyard, facing due east, produces both red and white wine. The Pinot Noir grapes in the lower part benefit from a very clayey soil that produces deeply-coloured, powerful wines. The high iron content in the soil often accounts for aromas reminiscent of soot or smoke.
