An intensely fragrant wine, where aromas of tropical blackcurrant bud and passionfruit are complemented by delicate notes of green nettle. Rich and beautifully balanced on the palate with vibrant flavours of passionfruit and melon and an underlying mineral note leading to a long, lingering finish.
Drinking beautifully now and will be at its best over the next three to five years.
Red WineThis Pinot Noir delivers on all levels. The clay-rich soils located in the southern border of the Isabel estate allow for an intensely concentrated Pinot Noir in flavour combined with a firm structured backbone of elegant and sinewy tannins. Layers of red fruit, dried herb and perfumed violet characters with nuances of white pepper make this wine attractive. With age it will gain extra complexity.
Red WineThe Reserve wines from Saint Clair represent the estate’s pinnacle wines – the best of the best. This 2019 has concentrated flavours of black cherry, blackcurrant, Kalamata olive, and perfumed wildflowers, that lead to an elegant palate with a structure reminiscent of finely powdered cocoa. The finish is long incorporating freshly roasted coffee beans, toasty oak and spice.
Ageing potential: This wine is drinking beautifully now or with careful cellaring will mature into a more complex wine that can be enjoyed for the next 8 to 10 years or beyond.
This vineyard site has been the foundation for some of Saint Clair’s finest wines. This is the vineyard where Saint Clair Family Estate first discovered the fruit to make their flagship Saint Clair Wairau Reserve Sauvignon Blanc. The fruit is sourced from a single vineyard in the lower Wairau Valley. The Block One site was previously part of the Wairau flood plain and is renowned for its deep, highly fertile, free-draining soils, which have been built up over time and help to produce the intensity of flavour in the resulting wine. The vineyard has a flat profile and is situated approximately three metres above sea level. It is now protected from flooding by a stopbank. Located in a slightly cooler site than the majority of the Marlborough Valley, the vines have a slower annual ripening period. The fruit is carefully monitored during the ripening stage and is harvested during the cooler evenings, at maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness.
This Chablis-style single-vineyard, limited-release, unoaked Chardonnay has been fermented and aged for eleven months in a concrete egg. The shape of the vessel causes the yeast to be in a constant state of flux, giving the wine richness and complexity, without any wood flavour to mask the fruit character. Concentrated baked yellow apple, peach, dried apricots and graphite with hints of almond and spices on the nose. In the mouth, it is full-bodied with a complex depth of flavour. Highly layered with a persistent, creamy, spiced apricot finish. The bottles are sealed with vegan wax.

White WineA complex and layered single vineyard Chardonnay from Waihopai Valley in Marlborough, made by the Blank Canvas duo Matt Thomson and Sophie Parker Thomson. It shows fleshy white nectarine and orchard fruit, alongside a flint-focussed precision on the palate, with a grainy and honeyed richness. It shows crystalline purity, with powerful savoury oak, and layered complexity.
The Reed vineyard is home to growers Pete and Anne Reed. Situated at the mouth of the Waihopai Valley, they first planted vines on their land in 2001. The soil is low-vigour clay, with a naturally dry micro-climate. The vineyard is planted solely with Clone 95 Chardonnay, a Burgundian clone that Matt Thomson thinks is ideally suited to Marlborough. It is flavour ripe at modest sugar levels, and retains its acid, a balance that Matt likes.
