  • 2020 Saint Joesph, Domaine CourbisRed Wine

    2020 Saint Joesph, Domaine Courbis

    £2895

This 2020 St Joesph shows the full character of its appellation in the attractive Courbis house style. In the glass, it is a refined wine with aromatic notes of ripe red fruits and blackcurrant characters that lead to a harmoniously balanced and fleshy palate. Hints of violet enhance the intense fruit flavours, which are supported by fine, silky tannins.  This cuvée comes from various vineyard parcels across the Courbis domaine, blended to produce a wine ready for near term drinking upon release.

Saint Joseph is situated at the confluence of the Rhône and Isère rivers on the right bank of the Rhône. Domaine Courbis owns the most southern parcels of the Saint Joseph appellation, on very steep and terraced slopes, with a southern and eastern orientation. The soils comprise 30% clay and limestone, and 70% decomposed granite, which retains the heat from the day and promotes a long slow ripening period for the grapes.

The Lomond estate is surrounded by indigenous flora known as Fynbos.  This single-vineyard wine is named after a vulnerable listed species endemic to the Agulhas Region, ‘Leucadendron Coniferum’ or the ‘Dune Conebush’

  • 2021 Henry’s Seven, HenschkeRed Wine

    2021 Henry’s Seven, Henschke

    £2995

In the glass this wine is deep ruby with crimson hues. Fragrant, floral aromas of violets over spicy blackberry, raspberry and blueberry, with underlying spice notes of anise and black pepper, with sage, bay leaf and cedar. The palate is spicy, juicy and concentrated with ripe blueberry and freshly cut strawberry and plum creating layers of flavour with bright acidity and complexity from long, fine, savoury tannins.

This blend is a tribute to Henry Evans, who planted the first vineyard of seven acres at Keyneton in 1853. The blend highlights the historical introduction of southern French and Spanish varieties to South Australia in those early pioneering days and reflects the history, religion and culture of the Barossa. The fruit for this blend is sourced from selected growers in Eden Valley and Barossa Valley, with whom Stephen and Prue have been dealing for decades.
