  • 2018 Barolo ‘Patres’, San SilvestroRed Wine

    2018 Barolo ‘Patres’, San Silvestro

    £2950

A stylish and traditionally styled Barolo, with expressive aromas of dried fruit, roses and tar. The deep fruits are layered with earthy minerality on the smooth and mouth-filling palate and sweet tannins weave through to a very long, elegant finish.

The name ‘Nebbiolo’ comes from one of two schools of thought: some believe as the harvest of Nebbiolo usually occurs in October, when foggy weather is common, it takes the name from ‘nebbia’ meaning ‘fog’; however, others believe the name is derived from the presence of ‘pruina’, a substance which gives the appearance of a foggy haze on the berry’s skin. The Nebbiolo vines are grown in the northern Italian region of Piedmont, where the climate is continental and is tempered by the Tanaro River and its tributaries. Grown in marl clay and sand soils, the late-ripening variety is usually harvested in early October.

  • 2019 Barolo, Giacomo FenocchioRed Wine

    2019 Barolo, Giacomo Fenocchio

    £4500

We love the Barolos from Giacoma Fenocchio because they are so drinkable upon release – which is a much-overlooked virtue as not everyone wants to wait 10 years to drink their wine. The good news is if that’s your thing, then Fennocchio Barolo’s are excellent for medium-term cellaring.

This 2019 Barolo is Fennocchio’s introduction to his Barolo’s and the wineries’ style.  Made from 100% Nebbiolo sourced from twenty-year-old vines planted in the Monteforte d’Alba region. Made using traditional methods and ageing for 30 months in large Slovenian oak casks, in the glass, the wine has a deep ruby colour with an intense ethereal bouquet with flavours of liquorice and wild rose alongside the warm and spicy aromas.

  • 2018 Barolo Tortoniano, Michele ChiarloRed Wine

    2018 Barolo Tortoniano, Michele Chiarlo

    £4950

This magnificent Barolo is a complex and full-bodied wine with inviting aromas of deep fruits, rose petals, juniper berries and a hint of fine spice. The palate shows a wonderful harmony, with silky tannins and remarkable elegance and persistence.

The vineyard sits on a southeast to southwesterly orientation and the vines are trained according to the Guyot method. The vines are thinned during the summer months to control the health and vigour of the vine. The soils are from the Tortonian geological area of La Mora and Barolo, which is characterised by sedimentary clay and Sant’Agata marl interspersed with grey-blue sandstone. A significant presence of microelements specifically magnesium and manganese enhance the soil’s complexity. The grapes are manually harvested at optimum maturity.
