  • 2013 Dolcetto d’Alba `Coste e Fossati`, G.D. VajraRed Wine

    2013 Dolcetto d’Alba `Coste e Fossati`, G.D. Vajra

    £2550

Coste & Fossati is a selection of antique biotypes of Dolcetto, selected by Aldo Vajra between 1978 and 1985, and grafted in two of the best vineyards of Bricco di Vergne in Barolo (the vineyard Coste and Fossati). They produce an intense and spiced Dolcetto.

This 2013 is a brilliant deep purple in the glass, showing aromas of black cherries, flowers, with notes of liquorice and menthol. The lively acidity and silky tannins bring an amazing texture to the palate.

  • 2011 `Kyè` Langhe Freisa, G.D. VajraRed Wine

    2011 `Kyè` Langhe Freisa, G.D. Vajra

    £4250

Freisa is an ancient local grape variety from Langhe that is fighting for survival. Part of the history and identity of Piemonte since ancient times, Freisa is one of the closest relatives of Nebbiolo. This wine is Vajra’s homage to this rare treasure of Langhe.

Deep ruby red colour. Red berries, tobacco, roses, and white pepper with hints of hay and wild herbs on the nose. Full-bodied with balanced acidity and alcohol, this wine is sapid and rich with a long finish of black fruits and spices.

Grapes for this wine are sourced from San Ponzio Vineyard in the Commune of Barolo. They are grown at an altitude of 390-410 metres above sea level, on a clay-rich soil with an assortment of vines selected by Aldo Vaira in an old vineyard planted by his grandfather.
