Crafted solely from hand-harvested Chardonnay grapes, Domaine Altugnac Chardonnay undergoes fermentation and aging in stainless steel tanks, complete with malolactic fermentation, ensuring the preservation of its freshness and varietal essence. Despite hailing from a warm region, winemakers Jean-Luc and Christian masterfully maintain acidity, tension, and vibrancy in this white wine. This particular vintage bears a striking resemblance to Chablis, boasting a pale straw hue and aromas reminiscent of lemon confit, white flowers, green apple, white peach, and yuzu. On the palate, it is bright and invigorating, enveloped by a mineral core that culminates in a lifted finish.

The vineyards is full of Turitelles fossils, these marine sediments are carried by a limestone and clay base, forming sloping plateaus in the landscape, on which the vineyard is located. The vineyards at Domaine d’Altugnac are full of Turitelles fossils which you will see featured on the bottle label. These marine sediments are within the limestone and clay soils that form sloping plateaux in the landscape at the foothills of the Pyrenees.

The Chardonnay vines thrive in climatic conditions similar to those of Burgundy; the vineyard experiences an oceanic climate with continental influences, frequent rain fall and wide temperature ranges. The vines are planted at a density of between 5,000 to 6,000 vines per hectare, which produce concentrated wines. The vines are trellised using espaliers to ensure optimal sunlight exposure, allowing the grapes to ripen evenly. Pruning, de-budding and thinning out of the leaves are all conducted manually and to environmentally-friendly specifications. The grapes are harvested by hand and are transported to the cellar in special bins to preserve the quality of the fruit. The vines are grown in compliance with the rules of sustainable agriculture set by Terra Vitis.
