This 2019 Classic Blend is a collaboration between Harry Hartman and Tongai Joseph Dhafana, a refugee who turned winemaker, an award-winning Sommelier, a wine judge, a philanthropist and the proud owner of the internationally recognised Mosi Wines and Spirits.

In the glass, the wine unleashes a refreshing fragrance born from sun-baked-slate, ripe berry fruit, and a peppery perfume of lavender. The wine is packed with dark fruit like blackberry, mulberry, and plum, with a cool, herbaceous gloss. Hints of rum and raisin positively points to full ripeness, joined by a notable yet balanced alcohol adding to the full, rounded texture of the wine. Clever use of oak adds structure while honouring the fruit, affirmed with a mellow and gentle pull of berry compote. Garigue aromas persist on the palate, edged with fresh acidity and supple tannin for a mouth-watering finish. A coolness lingers on the palate with a gentler aftertaste of dark, sea salt chocolate. Edi Simčič, one of Slovenia’s most revered family-run estates, has built an international following for producing elegant, terroir-driven wines from the rolling hills of Goriška Brda, a region often dubbed the “Tuscany of Slovenia.” Their focus on low yields, meticulous vineyard practices, and minimal intervention winemaking results in wines of depth, complexity, and authentic expression.

Duet 2022 is a beautifully structured red blend, combining the power of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon in a way that harmonises Old World elegance with New World vibrancy.

In the glass, the nose is inviting and layered, opening with aromas of ripe black cherry, plum, and blackcurrant, intertwined with subtle hints of cedar, graphite, and dried herbs. A touch of baking spices and dark chocolate adds to the complexity. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, showcasing a rich core of dark berries, mulberry, and forest floor, balanced by vibrant acidity and fine-grained tannins. The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso d’Oro is a bold yet polished expression of Paso Robles, crafted by winemaker Laura Orozco, whose family legacy and deep Napa Valley roots inspired this vibrant project. Raised among the vines, Laura brings an intimate knowledge of California’s viticultural heartland to her wines. Paso d’Oro, meaning “Way of Gold,” honours her father’s journey from Mexico to the vineyards of California in the 1970s, in pursuit of a brighter future. Today, that legacy lives on in a wine that radiates both heritage and sunshine.

In the glass, the 2022 vintage is smooth and expressive, offering lifted aromas of black raspberry, blackcurrant, and hibiscus, layered with subtle spice notes of vanilla, cinnamon, and clove. The palate is opulent and plush, unfolding with rich waves of black cherry, cassis, and dark chocolate, framed by velvety tannins and a supple, lingering finish.

The fruit for this wine is sourced from the Paso Robles AVA, a region famed for its rolling hills, ancient soils, and dramatic temperature swings. Here, the warm Mediterranean climate, tempered by cool Pacific breezes through the Templeton Gap, creates ideal conditions for growing Cabernet Sauvignon with depth, vibrancy, and a true sense of place.

Rockburn takes its name from the rugged, rock-strewn, burn-scarred landscape of Central Otago. Situated on the 45th parallel, Rockburn shares a climate that is similar to Burgundy. The vineyards are surrounded by mountains to the west, whose seaward slopes are rainforest, receiving 5,000mm of rain per annum. To the east is a barren, moon-like landscape that receives less than 25mm of rain per year. Situated between these extremes, lay the Rockburn vineyards, which are producing Pinot Noir of stunning quality.

2020 Priorat ‘Mas Blanc +7’, Bodegas Pinord

In the heart of the wine appellation, D.O.Q. Priorat, between the villages of Bellmunt and Falset, Pinord makes its wines from the grapes grown on the 18 hectares (44 acres) of vineyard of their Mas Blanc property.

Due to its special location, the Mas Blanc property has been caringly transformed by building various kilometres of vine terraces and by planting, cultivating and looking after the traditional grape varieties of Grenache and Carignan (Garnatxa and Carinyena as they are known locally) as well as introducing new varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. Thus, a wild space has been turned into a model vineyard, with steeply sloping terraces which mean that virtually all vineyard work must be done by hand.

Ripe, dense black fruits, vanilla and chocolate aromas envelop the full-bodied, but elegant palate, which is rich and very silky with a long, smooth finish. The ageing in oak is noticeable, well blended with fruity aromas which give it finesse and complexity.

The grapes are sourced from seven different plots of vineyards, where the soils are made up of a slate known locally as ‘licorella’. Slate soils are known for their heat-retention properties, which encourages the vines to reach maturity. The vines are cultivated organically and harvested by hand.

Rich, smooth and flavoursome with complex layers of black-berried fruit, brambly notes, a touch of the local wild garrigue and gentle spice. Elegant yet sumptuous.

This Domaine stretches from the high terraces of the ‘La Crau’ and descends into the Solitude Valley. The estate covers a patchwork of soils, from sandy soil known as ‘Safres’, which offer good drainage, to clay and pebble. The vineyard has an abundance of rounded quartzite stones, known as “Galet Roulés”, which derive from the Villafranchian period. These stones absorb heat during the day then radiate it at night, promoting full grape maturity.

Founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson MW, Bedrock Wine Co. is one of California’s most celebrated advocates for old vine preservation. The winery sources fruit from some of the state’s most storied and historic vineyards, many dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The 2020 Old Vine Zinfandel is a tribute to that legacy, composed of fruit from multiple vineyards averaging over 80 years old, including sites in Sonoma, Contra Costa, and Lodi.

Morgan’s philosophy is rooted in minimal intervention winemaking, native fermentations, and restrained oak usage, allowing the character of these ancient vines and diverse terroirs to shine. While labelled as Zinfandel, the blend typically includes small amounts of field-blended varieties such as Carignan, Mourvèdre, and Petite Sirah, adding nuance and structure.

In the glass, the 2020 Old Vine Zinfandel is a compelling expression of California heritage and winemaking precision, vibrant, layered, and irresistibly expressive. Deep ruby in the glass, it opens with a rush of ripe blackberry, raspberry compote, and wild plum, wrapped in a veil of anise, black pepper, and crushed herbs. On the palate, it is both juicy and taut, balancing generous fruit with savoury undertones of graphite, smoked tea, and dried lavender. Silky tannins and bright acidity provide lift and structure, while a touch of earth and spice lingers on the persistent finish. This is Zinfandel with energy, complexity, and a clear sense of place, eminently drinkable now, yet capable of short- to mid-term ageing.

2021 Botmaskop, Delaire Graff

Delaire Graff is one of the leading wine estates in South Africa and is situated on the top of the Helshoogte Pass in the Stellenbosch Wine Appellation. It looks down on the Banghoek Valley, and the West and East facing sides of the majestic Simonsberg.

This 2021 Botmaskop (see below) is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon & Cabernet Franc with a splash of Petit Verdot and Merlot. It is an opulent and polished blend with classic aromas of cassis and spice leading to a structured palate with liquorice and blackberry flavours and enveloped by fine, lingering tannins.

Botmaskop 2021 has a recommended ageing potential of between 10 and 15 years. Over time, the wine develops in character, with beautiful tannins and rich aromas of autumn leaves and cedarwood.

The namesake of this wine is the historic mountain peak upon which Delaire Graff Estate is situated. Originally named Bootmanskop, meaning ‘Boat Man’s Peak’, the picturesque Botmaskop mountain, with its expansive views over the Cape Peninsula and the Atlantic Ocean, served as the lookout point for the Huguenots who had settled in nearby Franschhoek. From this vantage point, sailing ships entering Table Bay harbour 50 kilometres to the west were easily seen.

The 2020 Pinot Noir from Pegasus Bay is crafted by one of New Zealand’s most respected family-owned estates. Established in 1986 by Ivan and Christine Donaldson, Pegasus Bay has become a cornerstone of North Canterbury winemaking. With deep roots in the Waipara Valley and over four decades of family commitment, the Donaldsons have cultivated a unique estate focused on producing wines of authenticity, complexity, and longevity. Their mature, own-rooted vines grow on free-draining, north-facing terraces composed of the ancient Glasnevin Gravels, a mixture of greywacke, silt, and loam, yielding low-vigour vines and intensely flavoured fruit. A long growing season, thanks to warm days and cool nights, draws out ripening while preserving bright natural acidity.

The 2020 Pinot Noir is an elegant and powerful wine, with a bouquet that is both aromatic and grounded. Earthy notes of forest floor, woodsmoke, truffle, and dried herbs weave around vibrant aromas of dark cherry, cranberry, crushed lavender, and exotic spice. On the palate, it opens with generous, ripe fruit before revealing its underlying structure, a broad yet silky texture framed by polished tannins and a lively acid line. There’s a dynamic tension between freshness and richness, giving the wine energy and drive, while a savoury core and hints of clove, potpourri, and spice add further intrigue.

Regarded as one of the great New Zealand Pinot Noirs.

Lot 21 Pinot Noir is a complex and elegant wine, with delicate aromas of strawberries, red cherries, orange peel and herbs with a subtle earth complexity. The first impression on the palate is of fresh, sweet red berries. The middle palate has nice volume with concentrated cherry flavours and soft ripe tannins that cover the entire tongue. The finish is bright and lingering.

This wine is made by Viviana Navarrete the exceptionally talented winemaker behind Leyda, from estate vineyards in the Leyda Valley. Here the maritime influence and summer breezes create an extraordinary environment for Burgundian varieties like Pinot Noir. This special wine comes from a selected parcel where all labour is performed by hand, by women only and vine by vine. Clusters are carefully selected to keep yields extremely low. Less than 1.75 pounds of fruit is produced by each plant.
