  • 2010 Coleccion 125 Reserva, Chivite Family EstateRed Wine

2010 Coleccion 125 Reserva, Chivite Family Estate

    £2750

A delicious 100% Tempranillo which comes from Chivites Legardeta estate.    A bright lifted nose of raspberries and strawberries leads on to a sweet and supple red fruit profile on the palate. The focus is on precision and elegance rather than power, so the tannins are gentle and soft while the acidity is bright and balanced. Traditional tempranillo at its best.

  • 2010 Tarraford Vineyard Chardonnay, Giant StepsWhite Wine

2010 Tarraford Vineyard Chardonnay, Giant Steps

    £3600

The Tarraford vineyard has some of the oldest chardonnay in the Yarra Valley, and that is reflected in this deliciously intense and structured 2010 vintage. The palate is very textural and complex, (judicious use of lees) full of lemon curd, grapefruit and impressive minerality. Lovely toasty notes finish this wine, and it has certainly aged very well and will drink very well for the next few years.

2010 The Florita Riesling, Jim Barry

    £3800

This legendary dry Riesling from Jim Barry has matured under optimum conditions and displays the complexities that fine Australian Riesling develops over time.

The 2012 Florita Riesling has an ultra reserved pristine nose of lovely lifted kaffir lime leaves and musky, floral notes with a hint of fresh lemongrass. The palate is all about delicacy, power, finesse and
balance, with a huge amount of length and structure coming from the natural acid backbone and the generosity of the lime citrus centred fruit.
    A magnificent cellar worthy Riesling.

The Florita has an incredible story, and we urge you to read it below in the ‘Producer info’ section.

  • 2010 The Ironstone Pressings GSM, d’ArenbergRed Wine

2010 The Ironstone Pressings GSM, d’Arenberg

    £4900

The Ironstone Pressings is named because most of McLaren Vale’s acclaimed and historic vineyards are impregnated with ancient, decomposed laterite granite known as ironstone. Its extraordinary rusty red-brown colour is derived from the iron oxides present in the stone. The larger pieces were cleared from the vineyards in the late 1880s and utilised in many of the buildings at d’Arenberg, most notably the old stables.

Unctuous blackberry and plum notes lay at the heart of this classic d’Arenberg example of a Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre (GSM).  A spattering of exotic spices the likes of star anise, cardamom and nutmeg cling to the sweet, dark fruits and of course, it wouldn’t be a d’Arenberg wine without a rousing dose of earthy, gamey character.   The palate is fleshy and juicy with an almost velvet-like texture. Abundantly warm and generous but sufficiently structured to suggest this wine can go the long hall.

While enjoyable in youth, this wine will reach its full potential with bottle age up to at least 20 years. The considerable structure and depth will ensure that the fruit characters will develop over time revealing more complexity and providing immense interest.

  • 2010 Cuvee Barberini Blanc, Domaine de la SolitudeWhite Wine

2010 Cuvee Barberini Blanc, Domaine de la Solitude

    £4950

White Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of the rarest and most prestigious wines in France. For most people, Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the southern Rhône Valley means red wine. This is understandable because only 7% of the wines are white.

This cuvée is a tribute to the founding fathers of the Estate. It is made with Roussanne grapes, picked the moment that they take on their golden colour, associated with Grenache Blanc and Clairette grapes. The Roussanne harvest is fermented in new barrels and the Grenache and Clairette grapes in vats. This wine is aged for 8 months on fine lees before being blended. It is an opulent wine due to the large proportion of Roussanne, but it also has beautiful freshness thanks to the Clairette. It can be enjoyed between 1 and 8 years after the harvest, or even kept for longer by those who appreciate mature wines.

  • 2010 Estate Chardonnay, Paringa Estate Wine Republic Heros White Wine

    2010 Estate Chardonnay, Paringa Estate

    £5500

An exceptional Paringa Estate Chardonnay that has benefited from being aged in our cellars.  Aromas of butterscotch and fig and layered with ripe and rich citrus.  The palate is textured with the perfect line of acidity, stone fruit and citrus are intermingled with savoury nutty barrel-ferment flavours.

The Paringa Estate vineyard is an exceptional site. North facing, the 10 acres of un-irrigated rich, red, volcanic soil curl around the slope like an amphitheatre, sheltered from the harsh South and South Westerly winds. Whilst Pinot Noir has always been Paringa’s most awarded variety, the unique microclimate also produces exceptional Shiraz and Chardonnay.

  • 2010 Patrina Syrah, Alban Vineyards Wine Republic Heros Red Wine

    2010 Patrina Syrah, Alban Vineyards

    £6500

John Alban is more than a wine producer: Robert Parker has described him as the “spiritual and qualitative leader of the Rhône Ranger movement”: his impact on wine production in California is not to be understated.  Established in 1989, Alban Vineyards represents California’s first winery and vineyard dedicated exclusively to the varietals of the Rhône at a time when anything that was neither Cabernet nor Chardonnay was barely grown in California, Alban was a groundbreaking project and has gone on to be regarded as one of the U.S.A’s best and most influential producers.

The 2010 Patrina boasts gorgeously pure aromatics of cassis, raspberry, flowers and spice, full-bodied richness and an overall layered, fresh profile that’s hard to resist.

It offers a rare and affordable glimpse into the craft of one of the Central Coast’s most enduring pioneers of Rhone varieties.

  • 2010 Barbaresco Martinenga, Marchesi di GrésyRed Wine

2010 Barbaresco Martinenga, Marchesi di Grésy

    £6995

Barbaresco Martinenga takes its name from Marchesi di Grésy’s Martinenga vineyard situated in the commune of Barbaresco. This single-vineyard (of 11.93ha) has the shape of an amphitheatre, with Asili to the west and Rabaja to the north-east. These south-southwest facing vineyards have a favourable microclimate, which allows the production of high-quality grapes even in potentially difficult vintages.

‘Rose petals, violets and dark red cherries emerge from the 2010 Barbaresco Martinenga. In 2010 the Martinenga is quite supple, open and generous, with a kick of acidity and brightness on the finish, both signatures of the year. Beautiful, structured and powerful in the glass, yet also restrained in the classic Gresy style, the 2010 is a beauty. This is a fabulous showing.’ 92+ points, Antonio Galloni – Vinous

  • 2010 Barbera La Court Vigna Veja Nizza, Michele ChiarloRed Wine

2010 Barbera La Court Vigna Veja Nizza, Michele Chiarlo

    £7350

This fascinating vineyard is located at the top of the highest hill of the La Court estate and has an exposure of 360 degrees surface area of the vineyard.  Set within a UNESCO World Heritage Site the vineyard that the grapes for this wine came from is only 1 hectare in size and was planted in 1964 so production is very limited and only in the best years.

2010 was one such year producing an intense and concentrated Barbera.   The nose is elegant yet complex with notes of black fruits, black cherry, wild flowers and sweet spices.  These flavours flow into the palate which is like velvet, silky and fresh.  The classic Barbera acidity is integrated and allows the cassis and black fruit flavours to shine.   The finish is long and persistent.  This wine will improve and last for many years.   Drink now to 2035.

This is great wine for Agnolotti with a roasted meat sauce, tagliolini with porcini, braised lamb and well-matured cheeses.

The label for this special Riserva was created by Ugo Nespolo, one of the greatest exponents of Italian Pop Art.

    2010 ‘Asili’ Barbaresco, Michele Chiarlo

    £9500

This is one of the great Barbaresco crus.  Asili is a prestigious and historic vineyard located at the top of a hill with a 360 aspect.  It produced majestic wines that have an elegance that can be attributed to the terroir.  The soils have a bluish colour due to the high content of magnesium and manganese.  Michele Chiarlo owns around 1 hectare of this famous cru.

This 2010 Asili has an aristocratic elegance, ethereal, with notes of violet, red fruits and fine spices. The palate is complex and enchanting with silky tannins and a surprising length.

  • 2010 Reva Syrah, Alban Vineyards Wine Republic Heros Red Wine

    2010 Reva Syrah, Alban Vineyards

    £12000

Established in 1989, Alban Vineyards represents California’s first winery and vineyard dedicated exclusively to the varietals of the Rhône.  Pioneered by John Alban at a time when anything that was neither Cabernet nor Chardonnay was barely grown in California, Alban was a groundbreaking project and has gone on to be regarded as one of the U.S.A’s best and most influential producers.

It is the Syrah releases from Alban which, justifiably, receive the most attention. Reva Syrah is Alban’s much-coveted, hard to come by top release; a 100% single vineyard Syrah which is aged in oak for 42 months before release.

“The 2010 Syrah Reva is magnificent. Blue and blackish tone fruits, smoke, tar, liquorice, cloves and menthol all flesh out in a supple, exotic wine endowed with superb depth and polish. An explosive finish rounds things out beautifully in this impeccable, opulent Syrah. The 2010 spent 44 months in oak, 70% new, all of which it has handled with grace. Of the three 2010 Syrahs, this is the wine I would personally reach for more often, as it is truly stellar.”  Antonio Galloni, Vinous: 95-97pts.
