2017 Gamekeepers Shiraz, Grenache, Touriga, St Hallett
£1395Add to BasketThis is one of our favourite quaffing red wines, it just such a well-crafted wine and really shows how skilled the winemakers at St Hallet are at making great wines for every pocket. The Shiraz, Grenache & Touriga grapes are sourced from mostly southern Barossa Valley, with red-brown loam over shale soils, perfect for highlighting fresh varietal characters.
Ripe red berry fruits and spice with a lift of floral notes are prominent on the nose. A seamless integration highlighting the best attributes from each variety in the blend. A spectrum of bright red fruits and supple tannin from the Shiraz combines with the generous juicy raspberry flavours the Grenache. Touriga Nacional complements perfectly with rose petal and floral-like spice. It’s what we call a 2 bottler!

2017 The Custodian Grenache, d’Arenberg
£1550Add to BasketA beautiful crimson-purple, edging toward a purple hue. On the nose, we find tomato leaves, violets and red fruits. It’s medium-bodied with more of those red fruits, pomegranate, and rhubarb. A little on the ripe side, with some green edges. There’s some lovely, beautiful crisp acidity. A gloriously dry finish. Velvety tannins envelop the wine. Light easy-drinking in its youth. With time, this wine will become a showstopper.
The Name: During the vine pull scheme in the 1980s, d’Arry Osborn refused to remove his old grenache vineyards. Today d’Arenberg is the keeper of nearly one-third of McLaren Vale’s old bush vine grenache, earning the title of ‘Custodian’ of the variety.

2017 Philip Shiraz, Mount Pleasant
£1795Add to BasketMount Pleasant, based in the Hunter Valley, was established in 1921 by the legendary winemaker Maurice O’Shea, from 16.3 hectares of adjoining parcels of land, which he named Mount Pleasant.
Inspired by the first visit of a reigning monarch to Australia in 1954, Mount Pleasant ‘Philip’ Shiraz is the personification of a distinguished family history dating back more than 130 years. Made in an authentic Hunter Shiraz style, this complex wine is crafted from small parcels cultivated in the premium subregion of Pokolbin in the Hunter Valley.
Ample notes of fresh red and black berried fruits, subtle oak spice and hints of blueberry lead to a beautifully balanced palate with finely woven tannins and impeccable length.

Subtle oak frames lovely Adelaide Hills acidity. A complex creamy-textured fruit-driven wine, typical of the modern cool-climate Australian Chardonnay style. Mouth-filling and complex now, it will reward medium term cellaring, filling out in the bottle.

2017 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, Berton Vineyard
£1895Add to BasketThe Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet has an impenetrable black colour with a vibrant garnet hue. The aromas are powerful and complex with a wealth of fruit ranging from ripe blackcurrant and blackberries with hints of nutmeg and cinnamon. The rich and harmonious palate displays abundant flavours of prune, plum jam and mint, underpinned by fine toasty French oak and defined by a soft yet dense tannin profile.
The grapes come from two parcels of fruit within the same vineyard, in the prized Terra Rossa region of Coonawarra. One block is on a slightly more elevated area of the vineyard, which produces more subtle fruit characters. The warm days are moderated by off-shore breezes and the rich red loam over free draining limestone soil is the foundation for the Coonawarra’s justified reputation for producing premium quality Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.

2017 Museum Release Marsanne, Tahbilk
£1950Add to BasketEstablished in 1860, Tahbilk is a historic family-owned winery, renowned for its Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and of course their Marsanne! Marsanne is one of the world’s rarest grape varieties originating in the Northern Rhone & Hermitage regions of France it is grown in only 3 other countries, Australia, America & Switzerland. Tahbilk holds the largest and oldest single holding of the variety in the world.
In this 2017 vintage the complexity that comes with age, shines through with lifted honeysuckle and toasty notes on the nose. The rich and honeyed palate is brimming with lemon citrus fruits and finishes with a chalky, mineral freshness.
Tahbilk’s history with Marsanne is traced back to the 1860s with the sourcing of ‘White Hermitage’ cuttings from the ‘St Hubert’s’ Vineyard in Victoria’s Yarra Valley. The grape was Marsanne and although none of these plantings has survived, the Estate still produces Marsanne from plantings dating back to 1927.

2017/8 Shiraz, Tahbilk
£1950Add to BasketTahbilk Shiraz is sourced from nearly 30 hectares of vines planted at various times from the 1930s through the early 2000s. Made using traditional Tahbilk techniques; fermentation takes place in 150 + year old open vats, before maturation in French and American oak for 18 months before bottling. The resultant releases are noted as being fruit-driven wines of much flavour and substance, proven over the years to develop added character when cellared. Varietally expressive with ample plum and blackberry fruits, there is warm earth and spicy savouriness that immediately appeals with a backbone of fine, opulent tannins and a rich, persistent finish.
Tahbilk’s vineyards are grouped along the banks of the Goulburn River, a branch of it which flows through the estate. The vines are grown at around 134 metres elevation of gently undulating and flat terrain. The soils are sandy loam with ferric oxide content, which vary from very fine sand near the anabranch to denser loams on the plains. Tahbilk has Shiraz vineyards dating back from the 1860s to the 1990s. The oldest surviving block is the ‘1860 block’; planted on its own roots in sandy soils, which has made it impossible for phylloxera to colonise the vine roots.

2017 The Dry Dam Riesling, d’Arenberg
£1995Add to Basket2017 is a great vintage for the Dry Dam Riesling, named after a neighbouring farmers dam that year after year was either dry or didn’t hold water! Teeming with white flowers and granny smith, backed by a lovely core of lemon and lime. The sweetness on the palate is tempered by a sustained seam of perfectly pitched acidity. A sherbet-like note is typical of classic Riesling years in McLaren Vale and is unmistakable in this wine. Not a hint of metallic hardness, the mouthfeel is so refined and balanced. Enjoy the heady yet delicate personality of this wine in youth or confidently cellar it, knowing, with time it promises even greater range and refinement.

2017 The Dry Dam Riesling, d’Arenberg
£1995Add to BasketThe Dry Dam Riesling 2020 has a delightfully lifted nose, loaded with lemons, limes, jasmine and Granny Smith. The palate displays a wonderful balance between acid and sweetness, giving that Dry Dam hallmark of sherbet-like character. Full of flavour yet pristine and refined. Drinks perfectly well young but promises to age well, developing toasty, marmalade notes for beyond a decade.
The Name. : In 1992 d’Arenberg’s neighbours built a dam that remained empty, as it was a dry winter. The next year it rained but the dam was jinxed and didn’t hold water. A dry dam was bad news for d’Arenberg’s neighbouring farmers but promises good results for their old, dry-grown, low-yielding vines.

2017 The Galvo Garage Cabernet Blend, d’Arenberg
£1995Add to BasketMade during an exceptionally balanced year. A lifted and perfumed nose displaying complex notes of violets, blackcurrant and ripe berries. The colour is quite rich, almost dark, suggesting a fuller-bodied flavour profile. The palate is elegant, yet sings with ripe fruits, and is extremely juicy with deep richness and structure. This mix of pure fruit combines with fine oak tannins that lead to a lovely fragrant dark chocolate, minerally dry finish.
‘Garage wines’ is a term used to describe wines that are produced in the back sheds of French winemakers, who make small batch wines of the highest quality. Our galvanized, corrugated ‘garage’ was built in 1927 and still houses the traditional equipment used in the handcrafting of this wine.

2017 ‘Elizabeth Cellar Aged’ Semillon, Mount Pleasant

Classic citrus characters of lime and lemongrass are predominant with a wonderful intensity and purity. An elegant yet intense palate of pure Semillon fruit providing great line and length.
Inspired by the first visit of a reigning monarch to Australia in 1954, the ‘Cellar Aged Elizabeth’ is the result of the synergy achieved by combining the noble grape variety Semillon and the Hunter Valley terroir. The Semillon grapes are grown in the estate vineyards in the Pokolbin subregion of the Hunter Valley. The vineyard is cultivated using sustainable techniques, such as employing mulch to nourish the vines and growing cover crops to increase the biodiversity in the soil. This sustainable approach has resulted in some of the healthiest vines on the estate in recent years; the vines have developed plentiful canopies which have assisted in preventing sunburn of the fruit.

BinD674 otherwise known as the 2017 HRB Riesling is made from fruit sourced from the Clare Valley and Tasmania. Brilliant water like colour with a slight tinge of green around the outskirts. Elevated lime juice and orange rind aromas interplay with citrusy talc like characters, green apple and steely mineral notes. Unfolding across the palate are intense lime and citrus flavours backed by a steely mineral infused core. Subtle orange rind and crunchy green apple elements are also apparent. Exceptional power, finishing dry with crisp mouth watering acidity and a long aftertaste.
HRB – Heritage Reserve Bin wines push the boundaries of winemaking through the cross-regional blending of hand-selected grapes.
