Finely balanced and very aromatic with notes of lychee, rose and ginger. This is dry and with classic restraint, while at the same time expressing beautifully the variety’s exotic and spicy character. Has the intense aromatics to go brilliantly with Asian food but also extremely good with powerful cheeses. The Alsatians drink it with their brine-washed Munster, but it is equally at home with rich blue cheeses from Stilton to Roquefort.
White WineThe Chablis producer Louis Michel is the benchmark for pure, unoaked Chablis. Intense and tensile wines are the calling card here, pure and unadorned by style and consistently high in quality.
In northernmost Burgundy, the Chablis Premier Cru Forêts vineyards managed by Guillaume Michel, the sixth generation of the Michel family, grow on thin soil and push deep into the bedrock. The shallow bedrock and stony soil in the Forêts vineyards bring clean, precise and powerful minerality to the wines that start their life here. The terroir also delivers notes of undergrowth and fern mingled with spicier ripe fruit, as well as aromas of cocoa and pepper.
A benchmark Condrieu – pure peach and apricot aromas are lifted with hints of acacia flowers. Full and creamy with a distinctive mineral expression and a subtle Condrieu saline complexity supporting the ripe stone fruit flavours. This is a pure expression of a very fine Viognier.
The grapes from this wine come from a patchwork of small plots covering four hectares in the lieu-dits of Sainte Agathe and La Caille located in the heart of Condrieu. The vines are planted on steep south-facing granite, biotite terraces where the use of machines is impossible; therefore the vineyard is maintained manually and sustainably, without the use of weed killers or insecticides. The average age of vines is 35 years.
White WineThis wine is complex with hints of minerality on the nose. The flavours on the palate are extremely concentrated with a superb balance. A very approachable wine that will continue to age with grace.
The grapes for `Les Clos` are sourced from a 0.67 -hectare single vineyard, which was planted in 1964 on a south-western facing slope. The soils are Kimmeridgian clay and limestone. This wine is certified organic from the 2018 vintage, as such Domaine de L’Enclos use only organic fertilisers in the vineyard and all of the fruit is hand-harvested.
