  • 2019 Château Bellecroix, Bordeaux SuperiorRed Wine

    2019 Château Bellecroix, Bordeaux Superior

    £1300

Château Bellecroix has a long and rich history dating back to the late 1800s. It was purchased in the 1970s by the owner of Château Haut Calens, Albert Yung. Albert has since embarked upon a programme of modernising the entire estate, replanting the vineyards and rebuilding the winery and cellars. Located on the right bank of the Garonne, the clay and gravel soils are ideal for growing Merlot and Cabernet. The 35 acres of vines average 25 years of age and yield healthy, richly flavoured grapes. This wine from the superb 2015 vintage is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s a silky-textured, medium-bodied Bordeaux with blackcurrants, black cherry, violets and a hint of cedar box. Finely balanced by lively acidity and smooth tannins.

  • 2018 Pinotage, OlifantsbergRed Wine

    2018 Pinotage, Olifantsberg

    £1595

Bright notes of cherry, wild strawberry fruit and ripe raspberry are interlaced by hints of spice and earthy notes. This wine is made in a pure fruit-driven style, with supple tannins and reveals a fresh and elegant expression of Pinotage.

The vineyard is located on the fertile slopes of the Olifantsberg Mountain Range where it endures wide diurnal temperature differences and strong winds, at altitudes from 250 to 450 metres above sea level. During the winter the mountain peaks are snow-covered, keeping the vines dormant for longer. Cold winters, coupled with the summer winds, ensures the slow ripening of the grapes; helps to maintain healthy vines; and contributes freshness and elegance to the wines. The soils in the vineyard comprise a unique sandy shale with a clay subsoil, which lends structure to the resulting wine. The Pinotage trellised vines are 11 years old and are farmed in a sustainable manner.

  • 2018 The Love Grass Shiraz, d’Arenberg Wine Republic Heros Red Wine

2018 The Love Grass Shiraz, d’Arenberg

    £1595

The Love Grass 2020 is a Shiraz straight from the d’Arenberg playbook. As a young wine when first opened, it may appear closed, dark and brooding. Tar, earth and black liquorice. Air and time both help to massage out the abundant sweet fruits, blackberry and plum with an undertone of fennel and spice. In a similar way, the palate starts quite muscular and tight but over time relaxes into a more generous juicy wine. As the juicy fruit evolves the initially rustic tannins start to settle into it like sinking into a plush armchair. The strong earth characters are a nod to the organic and biodynamic principles adopted in the vineyard. The character of the fruit is gently supported, rather than dominated, by savoury old oak barrels. All in all, this is a structural wine that over-delivers at the price point and will certainly benefit from decanting whilst rewarding those with the patience to cellar it well for 5 to 10 years

Lovegrass is a weed that grows in the vineyards and its sticky flowers affectionately attach themselves to vineyard workers’ socks. This Shiraz will linger with you in the same way that the flowers do!

2018 Rioja Edicion Limitada, Ramon Bilbao

    £1650

Ramon Bilbao Edición Limitada Crianza offers a different and more opulent style of Rioja, which retains elegance and freshness at the same time.

The spicy nuances play a key role, with black pepper, cloves and cumin. Fresh wood aromas with notes of cocoa, dry tobacco leaves and mint and a smooth, fruity mouth-feel with a long finish. Polished tannins and refreshing acidity.

“Sourced entirely from the north-western corner of the Rioja Alta, this refreshing pure Tempranillo confirms the move away from toasty oak at Ramón Bilbao towards wines with more fruit expression and balance. • 2018 Tempranillo de Laderas, BadiolaRed Wine

    2018 Tempranillo de Laderas, Badiola

    £1695

Badiola is the creation of 2 Masters of Wine, Andreas Kubach and Sam Harrop along with txakoli producer Gorka Izagirre.   Andreas and Sam along with Winemaker Tao Plantón craft modern Rioja wines with an emphasis on-site rather than how long it has aged in an oak barrel.  The winemaking philosophy is to obtain very pure, fresh and well-textured wines that reflect their origin.

The 2018 Tempranillo de Laderas has pure and precise aromas of cherries and red berries are layered with herbal notes of thyme through to a textured palate. This wine shows an excellent balance between fresh natural acidity, fruit concentration and firm, but fine-grained tannins.

‘Laderas’ means hillside and this wine takes its name from the hillside vineyards on which the grapes are grown. The fruit is carefully selected from over 300 parcels that are situated on the slopes of the Sierra Cantabria, in Rioja Alavesa. The average plot size is just 0.3 hectares and the average age of the vineyard is approximately 50 years, but some of the vines are significantly older, producing low yields of concentrated juice. The Gobelet trained vines are planted in limestone soils, resulting in elegant wines that are fresh, precise and age-worthy due to the balancing acidity.

  • 2018 ‘1753’ Syrah Sans Sulfites, Château de CampugetRed Wine

2018 ‘1753’ Syrah Sans Sulfites, Château de Campuget

    £1695

Classic Syrah nose with a very intense fruit-driven character, this classy wine shows notes of liquorice and violet complemented by a hint of dark chocolate. Rich black fruits are enveloped by a smooth and velvety texture through to a lovely fresh finish.

The grapes come from the Château’s vineyard, which is situated 15 kilometres south of Nîmes, near the village of Manduel in the heart of the ‘Appellation d’Origine Protégée’ (AOP) of the Costières de Nîmes. However, winemaker Frank-Lin Dalle has chosen to designate this wine as Vin de France to distinguish the distinctive style of this wine, which has been made without sulphites. The average age of the vines is approximately 25 years. The main characteristic of the vineyard is the soil, which is formed of ‘gress’, an accumulation of rounded pebbles that have been deposited by the overflowing Rhône River thousands of years ago. These pebbles allow the vines to grow in the best possible conditions and due to this natural soil filter; the vine’s roots can easily draw the necessary water for their growth. The vines also benefit from the Mediterranean sunshine, which bring the grapes to perfect maturity and allows them to be picked at maximum phenolic maturity in early September

    £1850

This delightful Pinot Noir comes from a single vineyard planted in South Westerly facing blocks on the upper reaches of the property, overlooking the sea.  This aspect ensures that these vineyards are cooled during the summer months by the prevailing winds off of the sea.
