  This Gruner Veltliner opens in the glass with spicy grapefruit and vibrant lime cordial aromas with tropical fruit notes on the palate through to a mineral, crisp finish with classic hints of white pepper.

  The Kamp Valley has a unique microclimate and rich soils with an abundance of minerals.   Winemaker Rudolf Rabl combines these natural resources with sustainable practices in the vineyard and modern winemaking techniques to produce a multi-award winning range of complex wines. Weingut Rabl was awarded the IWSC Trophy for White Wine Maker of the Year in 2019 and 2021.

  2020 Gruner Veltliner ‘Johann’ Federspiel, Weingut Johann Donabaum

  A fabulous, concentrated wine with apple and lime characters combined with white pepper, cardamom and spicy minerality. Balanced and refreshing.

  The Grüner Veltliner vines are grown in the Wachau, the most prestigious viticultural area in Austria. The vineyard is located on the steep terraces of the Spitzer Valley with proximity to the Danube. The temperature variation in the valley, with warmer days and cooler nights, has a significant role to play in the ripening of the berries. The vines are grown in Gneiss soils, made up of schist and granite with a high mineral content.

  2016 Zweigelt, Heinrich

   If you’re a lover of Beaujolais or Valpolicella then this Austrian Red made from 100% Zweigelt could be the one for you.   In the UK we drink very little Austrian red wines and the Wine Republic team are guilty of that as well BUT we we do we are always pleasantly surprised by how good they can be, and this Zweigelt from Heinrich is one of those wines.

  The vines of 2016 bequeathed grapes with extraordinary finesse.  In the glass you will find a dance of cherry aromas from morello to wild.  On the palate the tannins are fine but catchy. Despite all finesse and cool elegance, one attribute remains at the heart of this Zweigelt: pure juiciness. To allow this mouth- watering juiciness to flow unhindered, serve best at 15-16° C.

  2020 Riesling Spitzer Federspiel, Weingut Johann Donabaum

  An enchanting wine delivering distinctive aromas of peach and apricot. Crisp, with pure varietal character echoed on the palate, this refreshing wine has an excellent structure and a lively finish. Lovely Riesling expression.

  The grapes come from the Spitz vineyard in Western Wachau. The vines are grown on steep hillside terraces which make up several vineyards in the Spitzer Graben. The vines are planted with a south western orientation. Cooling breezes help to keep the climate temperate. The soils are very sandy and have high heat retention properties. The soil’s composition is the result of weathering of the local rocks and it is dominated by pegmatite and calc-silicate gneisses, which have low water retention and help to impart structure to the resulting wine.

  This Blauburgunder was made with the ripest Pinot Noir grapes, especially from the top vineyards Dechant and Käferberg and is an authentic expression of the Niederösterreich wine region of Austria.

  In the glass, it opens with a smoky, spicy aroma followed by berries, plums and cherries with a touch of floral tones.  On the palate, it is dry, fresh and bursting with red fruits.  Structured and well-integrated acidity with a youthful grip.  The finish is long with a hint of oak and spice.
