  Founded in 1848 by Jean Ropiteau, a visionary just 24 years old at the time, Ropiteau Frères quickly established itself as one of Burgundy’s most respected houses. The arrival of the railway into Meursault enabled the young merchant to expand the reputation of Burgundy’s wines well beyond the region’s borders. Over the decades, the house remained deeply rooted in Meursault, acquiring prestigious parcels and cellars, including a property once belonging to the Hospice de Beaune. Today, Ropiteau Frères is renowned as a specialist in the Côte de Beaune, and particularly in Meursault, crafting wines that express the richness, minerality, and nuance of this world-famous terroir.

  The 2022 Meursault from Ropiteau Frères is a textbook expression of the appellation, opulent yet finely poised. Aromas of white peach and lemon are intertwined with notes of acacia blossom and a subtle touch of almond. On the palate, it is creamy and layered, showcasing ripe stone fruit, citrus zest, and a finely textured oak presence. A vibrant mineral backbone, courtesy of the limestone-rich soils, gives lift and length, culminating in a lingering, elegant finish.

  Ropiteau Frères has been a standard-bearer in Meursault and Côte de Beaune since 1848, when Jean Ropiteau capitalised on the new railway to promote Burgundy wines across France. Over generations, the house has collected prime parcels, including key holdings within Puligny‑Montrachet, becoming recognised for its expressive, terroir-driven whites.

  The 2023 Puligny‑Montrachet presents a bright, citrus-forward bouquet of lemon and sesame blossom, layered with delicate vanilla toast from just 20% new French oak.  On the palate, it is fresh and elegantly proportioned, with invigorating acidity and a minerally spine. Flavours of white peach and apricot glide across a creamy texture, finishing with a discreet woodiness and lingering charm.

  2023 Chardonnay, Far Niente

  Aromas of citrus, melon and honeysuckle complement hints of white fig, gardenia and toasted hazelnuts on a background of mild toasted oak that adds supportive warmth and richness. A silky palate with a rich texture surrounds a sweet core of melon and citrus, with notes of white floral and toasted vanilla and spice, through to a long bright finish.

  Far Niente Chardonnay is a blend of superlative Napa Valley vineyards, many of which are located in a little-known area called Coombsville, a cool growing region nestled in the rolling countryside and protected by the hills east of the city of Napa. Coombsville offers the characteristic climate of Carneros, with less wind, along with deeper, well-drained gravelly loam and volcanic ash soils. The combination of these vineyards results in subtle, tropical flavours, complex aromas and rich texture.

  Ed Durell planted the first vines in the rock-strewn, windy hills in 1979. Today, Durell Vineyard spans three AVAs: Sonoma Valley, Sonoma Coast and Carneros. The block TOR sources from lies in the famed Sand Hill section of the vineyard, which overlooks the Sonoma Valley. This 2014 Durell Chardonnay ranks among the best they have ever produced. “This has the classic seamless, almost oily palate weight and texture to it that the best Durells have but with a thread of focus that helps to pull the intensity of the palate together. This shows mandarin oranges, stone fruits and an almost cut wet grass note to it.

  A blend of over 100 Crus, this cuvée is a true voyage of the senses across the terroir of Champagne, from the Marne Valley to south of the Aisne. The composition was completed with 35% reserve wines in order to preserve the consistency of the Champagne Collet house style, year after year. This cuvée reached full maturity after a minimum of three years of bottle ageing in the historic, limestone cellars in Ay, which are centuries old.

  This Chassagne Montrachet is a blend of three different climats within the appellation, each imparting subtle nuances to the wine in terms of minerality, acidity and body, resulting in complexity and balance.   The grapes for this cuvée come from 20 Crus from the Grand and Premier Crus sites of the Champagne region. The Chardonnay comes predominantly from the Premier Cru of Vertus and contributes freshness and lemony notes, while the mineral dimension and flinty aromas, come from the Cru of Villers Marmery, which has a limestone soil. The Grands Crus and Premiers Crus villages of Chouilly, Avize, Oger and Vaudemange, complete the blend with strength and complexity. The Pinot Noir comes from the Grands Cru and Premiers Cru villages of Ay, Hautvillers, Avenay Val d’Or and Louvois; it produces light, tender and fruity wines, while the Pinot Meunier imparts a roundness and suppleness.   2021 Chardonnay ‘El Diablo Vineyard’, Senses

  This wine is made from grapes from the famed El Diablo vineyard, which sits on a ridge above Eastside Road in the Russian River Valley AVA.   Aromas of flamboyant pineapple, orange blossom and hints of coriander seed, marzipan and lemongrass lead to a palate delivering lovely tension, tropical fruit and finishing with great purity.

  2021 shows excellent concentration and very clean fruit, which makes for age-worthy Chardonnay with high acidity and ripe fruit characters.

  2021 Chardonnay ‘Charles Heintz Vineyard’, Senses

  The grapes for this Chardonnay come from the Heintz family, who have owned their ranch in the Sonoma Coast AVA for over 100 years. Planted in 1982, Charles Heintz produces fruit for some of the top names in California. The world-class fruit that is produced here is summed up by Robert Parker, whose assessment of the vineyard is “…one of the great grand cru Chardonnay sites in California.”

  The 2021 is elegant and expressive, the palate is packed with sublime stone fruits layered with spice, cedar and candied ginger, framed by a racy backbone, with a silky texture and extraordinarily long finish.

  2013 ‘Dreams’ Chardonnay, Vinnaioli Jermann – Magnum

  Silvio Jermann is one of Italy’s finest winemakers.   All his wines are extraordinary, multi-layered and complex, expressing the essence of each varietal character to its purest and fullest degree. In terms of their philosophy, Silvio says “I want the wines to be genuine. I want them to be balanced and elegant but above all, they should move us, prompt our emotions and have a sense of authenticity”.

  The 2013 Dreams Chardonnay is a delicious wine and is up there with Italy’s best white wines.  It handles its oak treatment with ease, blending pure white orchard fruits, flowery perfumes and stone dust with hints of vanilla bean and brioche. The textures are silky and seamless, contrasted by stimulating minerality with a green citrus twang that adds further depth.  Intense.

  Dedicated to U2′s “The Joshua Tree” album (1987) and specifically to the song “Where the streets have no name”. This wine was created with the 1987 harvest and over the years its name has undergone a number of variations. For its first nine years, it was called “Where the Dreams have no end…”

  2006 Savigny Les Beaune ‘Dessus Les Gollardes’ Pierre Guillemot – Magnum

  A rare magnum of Savigny Les Beaune ‘Dessus Les Gollardes’ from Pierre Guillemot.

  The vineyard was planted in 1957. It is 30% Chardonnay and 70% Pinot Gouges, a rare strain of albino Pinot Noir discovered by the great Henri Gouges. In the 1930’s some of his Pinot Noir vines mutated from red to white grapes. Monsieur Gouges propagated these cuttings and distributed some to various vigneron friends.
