2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Domaine Philippe Cheron

    £21300

Domaine Philippe Chéron is a rising force in Burgundy, driven by the passion and expertise of Philippe Chéron, a trained enologist who began bottling under his own name in 2011 after reclaiming family vineyard holdings. With prestigious plots in Vosne-Romanée, Gevrey-Chambertin, and Clos de Vougeot, Chéron combines a deep respect for terroir with a restrained, hands-off approach in both vineyard and cellar. His focus is on sustainable viticulture, native yeast fermentation, and careful oak integration, resulting in wines that are structured, balanced, and strikingly expressive of place.

The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is sourced from a prime parcel within the famed walled vineyard, one of the most iconic and historic sites in all of Burgundy. In this warm and generous vintage, Philippe Chéron has captured the depth, gravitas, and finesse that define this legendary terroir.

In the glass, the wine reveals an alluring aromatic profile of black cherry, wild raspberry, and crushed rose, underscored by layers of cedar, spice, and earthy truffle. On the palate, it is bold yet composed, offering a core of concentrated red and dark fruits framed by firm, ripe tannins and a mineral backbone that brings freshness and definition. The oak is seamlessly woven, lending polish and texture without distraction. A long, noble finish resonates with subtle floral and savoury tones, hinting at its Grand Cru pedigree.

The 2019 Clos de Vougeot from Domaine Philippe Chéron is a wine of power, poise, and long-term potential, ideal for collectors and connoisseurs seeking a classic expression of this storied vineyard through the lens of a thoughtful, next-generation vigneron. Best enjoyed from 2026 onward, with a graceful ageing window extending well beyond 2040.

2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, Domaine Phillipe Cheron

    £22500

Domaine Philippe Chéron is a rising star in the Côte de Nuits, rooted in a deep family heritage and driven by a modern, terroir-focused philosophy. Philippe Chéron took the reins of his family’s holdings, originally part of Domaine Misset-Chéron and Clos de la Fontaine, after working as a consulting enologist in Burgundy. His domaine now spans prestigious sites in Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, and Nuits-Saint-Georges, with a commitment to minimal intervention, sustainable viticulture, and expressive, precise winemaking. The result is a collection of wines that are at once contemporary and classic, capturing the essence of their appellations with honesty and finesse.

The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a standout from the domaine’s portfolio, sourced from the vineyard’s upper section, on the border with Chambertin itself, where shallow limestone soils lend tension and elegance to the wine’s natural richness. The warm 2018 vintage is expertly harnessed here, delivering a wine of depth, harmony, and cellar-worthy stature.

In the glass, it opens with a gorgeous aromatic profile of black cherry, wild raspberry, rose petal, and exotic spices, followed by more subtle notes of cedar, cocoa, and crushed stone. The palate is luxuriously textured yet refined, with silky tannins, ripe dark fruit, and a savoury mineral core that provides lift and length. Despite its generous fruit, this is no heavyweight; it carries its power with grace, building toward a persistent, layered finish that leaves a lasting impression of elegance and terroir.

The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin from Philippe Chéron is a Grand Cru Burgundy of exceptional balance and character, perfect for collectors and enthusiasts seeking the intersection of classic Gevrey depth and modern winemaking clarity. Enjoy over the next 15-20 years.

2002 Femme de Champagne Grand Cru Brut Nature, Champagne Duval-Leroy

    £35000

This cuvée is a reflection of the close collaboration between Carol Duval-Leroy, President of the House and Sandrine Logette-Jardin, Head Winemaker. It is only produced in the most exceptional years. Interestingly 20% of this wine was matured in used Château d’Yquem barrels, imparting texture and richness. The three revered Chardonnay Grand Cru sites of Oger, Cramant and Le Mesnil sur Oger and the Pinot Noir Grand Cru site of Ambonnay produced the grapes for this cuvée.

A Champagne of exceptional finesse and aromatic complexity, with brioche, hazelnut and tobacco nuances layered with minerality and wonderful depth of fruit expression. Silky and elegant with great concentration and superb length.

2002 was a year of exceptional maturity in Champagne. Dominant winds form the north and east kept the vineyards healthy. A dry year, which lead to significant water stress during the early summer, concentrating the flavours in the juice. Harvest took place mid-September and the musts were very rich in sugar, balanced by good acidity. 2002 is considered to be the vintage of the decade; one of magnificent quality.
