Masút Vineyard & Winery is a family-owned estate in Mendocino County’s Eagle Peak AVA, founded by third-generation winemakers Ben and Jake Fetzer. Rooted in their family’s deep California wine legacy, the brothers established Masút in 2009 to focus exclusively on estate-grown, small-lot Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Their organically farmed vineyard, located between 900 and 1,800 feet above sea level, is defined by volcanic soils, maritime breezes, and steep, rugged slopes, creating ideal conditions for crafting wines of purity, balance, and site expression.
The 2019 Masút Pinot Noir captures the estate’s essence: refined, vibrant, and seamlessly structured. Sourced from select estate vineyard blocks, this wine showcases the nuance and energy of high-elevation Pinot Noir, made with minimal intervention to preserve the natural character of the fruit and the terroir.
In the glass, it opens with aromas of ripe cherry, wild raspberry, and rose petal, layered with notes of forest floor, clove, and a hint of toasted oak. The palate is silky and poised, delivering a core of red berry fruit framed by fine-grained tannins and refreshing acidity. Earthy undertones and a touch of spice add depth, leading to a long, graceful finish.
The 2019 Pinot Noir is a true reflection of place, both rugged and elegant, with the finesse to pair beautifully with dishes like roast duck, grilled salmon, or mushroom risotto. Aged in French oak for gentle integration, it’s a wine of intention and integrity, built for both immediate enjoyment and graceful ageing.
