The rich, full palate with grapefruit and blackcurrant leaf is enveloped in green notes of nettle and pepper and a delicate sea salt character, through to a long, mineral finish.
The grapes was sourced from a selection of vineyards located predominantly in the lower Wairau sub-region. This is what Saint Clair regards as Marlborough’s best subregion for Sauvignon Blanc, producing wines with heightened expression. These vineyards sit on alluvial, silt soils. Each vineyard block was harvested when it reached maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness.

It is a zesty Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc offers the best of what the region has to offer. There are lovely aromas of white peach, melon and tropical fruits. Nicknamed ‘Bob’ by her family (some of you may recognize the Blackadder reference), Bob Short for Kate is a tribute to Kate Glover, an amazing young drama teacher and Ben’s sister, who passed away in 2018. Ben explains that he has looked to produce a wine that characterises the honesty, purity and confidence of Kate. These are organic, Marlborough wines, reliant on selected blocks from the family’s vines and exceptional fruit selection. Not to mention the skill of one of the region’s most well-regarded winemakers.

The homestead was situated close by Henschke’s Lenswood property in the heart of the South Mount Lofty Ranges. 2014 was an exceptional vintage with the wine displaying a fragrant and lifted bouquet of citrus blossom, citrus fruits, gooseberry and tropical fruits with notes of anise, white pepper and fresh tarragon. The fresh and vibrant palate shows concentrated citrus and stone-fruit flavours, with pure acidity and balance for a crisp, fine and long finish.

This Sauvignon Blanc from Groot Constantia is consistently one of South Africa’s best and is highly awarded every year – indeed the 2019 vintage was named the Worlds Best Sauvignon Blanc at the 2020 International Wine Challenge. The 2020 vintage has a very similar flavour profile and is another triumph from Groot Constantia.
The wine shows great complexity on the nose, dominated by ripe fruit like white peach, passion fruit and guava with a distinct grassy, herbal undertone and a hint of lemon. The palate has intensity and length, balanced by fresh natural acidity.
The vineyards for this wine are located on the eastern side of Table Mountain with a climate that is best described as Mediterranean – this coupled with cooling breezes from the Atlantic Ocean encourages balance and complexity in the grapes. The climate, combined with the cool southern slopes and deep mountain soils provide the ideal setting for the making of this top-quality wine.

This 2017 Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon is a classic white Bordeaux-style wine. Light lotus yellow-green in colour, the nose has pristine aromas of elderflower, lemon and mandarin segments. A clean, seamless palate with vibrant fruit definition balanced with a taut natural acidity, this linear structured wine unfurls to lime, rose and pear softened by a creamy texture and lingers long after the first sip.
Its fresh, citrus profile and mineral texture make it perfect with seafood dishes, fish and spring vegetables. The site benefits from all the climate characteristics that make the Marlborough renowned including extended sunshine hours combined with a long, cool growing season.
The Isabel Estate Sauvignon Blanc is the epitome of New Zealand’s Marlborough wine region. Benefiting from the estate’s old vines and the soils on the southwestern corner of the estate, the Isabel Sauvignon Blanc drinks beautifully young but also develops intriguing characters with age. The majority of the juice is fermented in stainless steel to retain freshness and purity, with 5% fermented in 500-litre French oak barrels to add complexity and a textural mouthfeel to the wine. A pure tropical fruit nose of passionfruit and gooseberry gives way to nuances of blackcurrant, grapefruit and underlying flinty aromas. The palate is concentrated and enticing, coupled with the classic Isabel “Old Vine” mineral tones, making this wine refreshing and traditional in style.
