The evocatively named Kidnapper’s Chardonnay takes its name from Hawke’s Bay’s dramatic headland of Cape Kidnappers. It is made with grapes grown at Te Awanga, where the cool coastal breezes enhance Chardonnay’s acidity and fresh flavours, translating here to a medium-bodied, crisp style with ripe peach aromas and complex layered aromas of cedar and spice. This is Craggy Range’s answer to Chardonnay from Chablis.
This fresh and floral Savigny-Les-Beaune Blanc from Simon Bize is sure to take your breath away. Floral-driven aromatics lead to a rich yet balanced palate loaded with flavours of lemon zest, grapefruit rind, crushed stones, and baking spice, with a great minerality in the background. Swirl in the glass for a few minutes and it reveals the kind of depth that would make you think you have a Premier Cru in your glass.
The domaine has 2 hectares of Savigny-lès-Beaune Blanc, which Patrick planted in 1996 to increase the range of whites he could offer. This was pretty radical at the time for a village that was only known for its red wines.
Exuding a true sense of place, the Roman Road Chardonnay is elegant and pure, with a distinctive mineral quality that you would expect from fruit grown on the iconic chalk terroir of the Kentish North Downs.
Pale straw hued, with a complex matrix of tropical and citrus fruit, subtle butterscotch and flint on the nose, this Chardonnay shows excellent, ripe fruit intensity balanced with an elegant minerality, fresh citrus flavours and touches of cedar.
The 2018 vintage was awarded a Platinum Medal and the highest accolade of “Best in Show” in the Decanter World Wine Awards 2020. This title is only bestowed upon the top 50 wines entered into what is the largest and most influential, international wine competition. The 2020 vintage is a very worthy follow-up, reflecting the superb growing season and harvest of that year.
Simpsons Wine Estate is situated in the Elham Valley; an unspoilt seam in the North Downs of Kent where the contours of the land, the climate and the soil are excellent for viticulture. The intensely lime-rich chalk soil forms part of the same chalk ridge that stretches from southern England through Champagne and on to Burgundy. The grapes come from the Roman Road vineyard, named after the route the Romans first marched when invading England in AD 43. They are grown on south-facing slopes, ensuring heat accumulation in the day and cold air drainage at night. The vineyard is less than eight miles from the coast, providing a crucial maritime influence insulating the fruit against intense temperature variations.
Laurens Campher was a young German soldier who started farming at Muratie in 1685. This blend is a labour of love, much like Laurens’ love for Ansela van de Caab. Their love was ultimately rewarding, bringing about the birth of their three children, her freedom and the development of a farm that was only officially granted to Campher in 1699 but is still going strong over three centuries later.
This wine is made from meticulously sourced grapes from different sites and slopes. Vineyards vary in age from 10 – 15 years old. The Chenin Blanc is from an old north facing bush vine block with low yields and good fruit purity.
For all its freshness, elegance and focus, the wine’s flavours are complex and intense, ranging from bright lemon, fresh pineapple, apricots and juicy nectarine to more concentrated lime marmalade as well as caramel and cream (from barrel fermentation and 11 months of maturation in mostly older French oak). On the palate the initial impression is floral (heady honeysuckle) finishing with white peaches and apricots, with hints of citrus and a fresh acidity – great persistence promising enjoyment over at least five years.
Pietradolce’s single-vineyard bottlings are among Etna’s most highly regarded. Pietradolce is all about the terroir and this 2019 Etna Rosso is made from 100% Nero Mascalese grapes grown at 800m on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. The vineyard has rich volcanic soils and an intense day/night temperature swing which helps to provide their wines with extraordinary richness, texture, aroma and depth.
In the glass, this wine opens with fragrant aromas of cherry, raspberry, herbs, chocolate and spice are joined by a subtle saline tang. It’s a similar theme in the mouth, with herbs and spice dancing around the core of vibrant, juicy raspberry and cherry fruits. Creamy softness emerges on the mid-palate, as well as some tannic grip, leading to a long, fresh, slightly saline finish that leaves you wanting another sip.

Floral violet notes are followed by an intense fruity expression of red plum, strawberry and blackberry. Full-bodied but smooth and balanced, with subtle minerality this is a classic expression of Argentinian Malbec. The wines names ‘1300’ is derived from the fact the grapes were grown in vineyards located at over 1,300 metres above sea level. The area is characterised by its wide diurnal temperature range, which produces grapes with a great intensity of colour and a distinctive aromatic expression.
Luigi Bosca is a renowned wine producer with over 120 years of history in Mendoza. The winery is a family-owned business, founded for the Arizu family in 1901 that has been producing high-quality wines for generations. This Malbec was one of the first Argentine wines with a Designation of Origin.
In the glass it has a deep and bright red violet wine with balanced aromas and red fruit and sweet spice notes. It is refreshing and voluptuous in the mouth, with fine and gentle tannins, while it is clean and expressive in the palate, with a strong character, typicity and a deep finish with soft smoked hues as a result of its ageing in oak barrels. It is a great exponent of the variety and the terroir, with good ageing potential.
This stunning Cabernet Sauvignon stands out for its aromas of excellent varietal typicity. Black fruit and peppery notes are perfectly balanced with roasted hues resulting from its aging in barrels. It is compact, tense, markedly structured and full-bodied in the palate, with fine and ripe tannins and balanced acidity that provides great smoothness and a persistent and elegant finish.

In the glass, a bouquet of spicy blackberry fruit along with lifted floral viognier aromatics lead onto a fruit-driven palate of black fruits, black pepper and fine-grained tannins and silky texture. A medium-bodied wine with texture and power but with a fineness that reflects its cool climate origin.

This Viognier is a reflection of Samantha’s obsession with how the special soil, climate and a mysterious sense of place come together to produce an extraordinary wine that tells you its story. The vines are grown on rose-quartz soils in Elgin, which is a cool, high altitude plateau. The region offers a lengthened ripening period which brings the grapes late into the season, often three to four weeks later than traditional wine-growing areas in South Africa. Mendel wines classically combine Roberto de la Mota’s prestigious winemaking skills and tremendously old vineyards to make Mendoza’s most elegant wines. Proprietor and long-time wine lover, Anabelle Sielecki, partnered with Roberto to transform her family’s historic 1928 vineyard into the respected estate it is today.
In the glass this wine has notes of cassis, red and black pepper, and spices. On the palate there are beautiful mineral notes and integrated oak characteristics such as vanilla, caramel, and smoke. The mature and soft tannins are round with a fresh acidity. Concentrated, balanced, and full-flavoured, it displays both elegance and freshness.

The aromas of sweet French oak and espresso get more complex with every swirl of the glass, unveiling black plum, ripe raspberry, and violet aromas. The wine is full-bodied, dense, deep and chewy with flavours of black raspberry, plums, roasted herbs, and mint. Spice touches and licorice hints contribute complexity. The ageing in French oak masterfully integrates the subtle vanilla and caramel nuances. It is a balanced, refreshing and very easy-to-drink wine which boasts a lingering finish.
White WineSebastien Dampt is fast rising to the top echelons of Chablis winemaking. Year upon year, he delivers remarkable wines that are an ode to the regional terroir, reflecting both their devotion to winemaking and the rich heritage of Chablis. The domain is undoubtedly a perfect embodiment of tradition that meets modernity in wine-making.
This 2022 Chablis is made from five parcels of old vines (40-60 years old) that surround the Domaine in the village of Milly. It’s seriously good Chablis, bone dry, chalky, with notes of Granny Smith apple and citrus fruits and a firm, mineral finish.
In terms of vinification, Sébastien keeps it simple. His approach is traditional, as he learned from his father and grandfather. In Chablis, this means fermentation and maturation in steel tanks. Sébastien does not use winemaking techniques such as battonage or wood ageing; he is all about pure grape and terroir expression. The wine does undergo the usual malolactic fermentation in Chablis, which rounds out the acids just a little more.
