Simpsons Wine Estate is situated in the Elham Valley; an unspoilt seam in the North Downs of Kent where the contours of the land, the climate and the soil are excellent for viticulture. The intensely lime-rich chalk soil forms part of the same chalk ridge that stretches from southern England through Champagne and on to Burgundy. The grapes come from the Roman Road vineyard, named after the route the Romans first marched when invading England in AD 43. They are grown on south-facing slopes, ensuring heat accumulation in the day and cold air drainage at night. The vineyard is less than eight miles from the coast, providing a crucial maritime influence insulating the fruit against intense temperature variations.
White WineLismore Estate is based in Greyton within the Overberg region of the Western Cape of South Africa. We love barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc at Wine Republic and this beauty is made in an “oxidative” style using old 500-litre barrels for 70% of the fermentation and maturation bringing forward richness, intense fruit and complexity. 30% of the wine is fermented and aged in 1500-litre concrete egg tanks to enhance the rich palate texture and minerality. In both the barrels and the eggs, extended less contact adds complexity and a richer, creamy texture which works beautifully with the bright citrus and fresh herb notes and salty minerality from the grape.
Red WineThe 2018 Viña Alberdi Reserva is 100% Tempranillo from vineyards that are 40 years old and at a high altitude of 500-600 metres above sea level.
This vintage stands out for its intense ripe red fruit aromas like strawberries, raspberries and redcurrants complemented by pleasantly sweet spicy notes of vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. The palate is round, with lively freshness at the start and sweet, supple tannins, leading to a long, fruity and balsamic finish, so characteristic of Viña Alberdi.
This wine stands out for its food-pairing versatility. It is the ideal companion to appetizers, snacks and barbecues, perfect with rice, pasta and creams, and great with lightly-grilled meat and fish.
Red WinePietradolce’s single-vineyard bottlings are among Etna’s most highly regarded. Pietradolce is all about the terroir and this 2019 Etna Rosso is made from 100% Nero Mascalese grapes grown at 800m on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. The vineyard has rich volcanic soils and an intense day/night temperature swing which helps to provide their wines with extraordinary richness, texture, aroma and depth.
In the glass, this wine opens with fragrant aromas of cherry, raspberry, herbs, chocolate and spice are joined by a subtle saline tang. It’s a similar theme in the mouth, with herbs and spice dancing around the core of vibrant, juicy raspberry and cherry fruits. Creamy softness emerges on the mid-palate, as well as some tannic grip, leading to a long, fresh, slightly saline finish that leaves you wanting another sip.

This Viognier is a reflection of Samantha’s obsession with how the special soil, climate and a mysterious sense of place come together to produce an extraordinary wine that tells you its story. The vines are grown on rose-quartz soils in Elgin, which is a cool, high altitude plateau. The region offers a lengthened ripening period which brings the grapes late into the season, often three to four weeks later than traditional wine-growing areas in South Africa. This provides the opportunity to develop deep complexity and concentration.
In the glass, the 2021 Age of Grace Viognier is an expressive wine that seduces you with beautiful perfumes of honeysuckle and orange blossom and a textured palate of apricot, kiwi and pineapple. Red WineMendel wines classically combine Roberto de la Mota’s prestigious winemaking skills and tremendously old vineyards to make Mendoza’s most elegant wines. Proprietor and long-time wine lover, Anabelle Sielecki, partnered with Roberto to transform her family’s historic 1928 vineyard into the respected estate it is today.
In the glass this wine has notes of cassis, red and black pepper, and spices. On the palate there are beautiful mineral notes and integrated oak characteristics such as vanilla, caramel, and smoke. The mature and soft tannins are round with a fresh acidity. Concentrated, balanced, and full-flavoured, it displays both elegance and freshness.
Red WineThis is a timeless Malbec made from vines with an average age of 90 years and aged in Taransaud Burgundy barrels it has incredible depth and stature.
The aromas of sweet French oak and espresso get more complex with every swirl of the glass, unveiling black plum, ripe raspberry, and violet aromas. The wine is full-bodied, dense, deep and chewy with flavours of black raspberry, plums, roasted herbs, and mint. Spice touches and licorice hints contribute complexity. The ageing in French oak masterfully integrates the subtle vanilla and caramel nuances. It is a balanced, refreshing and very easy-to-drink wine which boasts a lingering finish.
Red Wine2009 is widely cited as an outstanding vintage. The growing season was almost perfect, with a long, fine, warm summer and crucially, cooler nights which helped to retain balancing acidity. The wines are intensely ripe and rich. This 2009 Chateau Puy Guilhem is a powerful yet elegant red with ripe berried fruits enhanced by a subtle note of oak spice. Full-bodied, with juicy fruit and an attractive savoury note on the finish.
The appellation of Fronsac is on the right bank close to Saint Emilion. The wines are dominated by Merlot. Château Puyguilhem’s vineyard is situated in an elevated position of the appellation, atop high-quality soil composed of a mix of clay and silt, which imparts structure to the wine. The vineyard is managed sustainably without the use of herbicides. Cover crops of grass are grown between the vines and managed with light tilling.
Red WineIt is only in years with grapes of exceptional quality that a limited number of bottles of Mayor de Ondarre Rioja Reserva are produced. From two plots of old vines, the grapes are handpicked into small crates and then sorted to ensure only the best quality fruit makes the blend. The winemaking is classic Rioja, with 19 months in oak casks (80% French and 20% American), with the aim of preserving maximum concentration. A further couple of years in the bottle result in a completely mindblowing Rioja.
In the glass, it has a dark cherry colour with shades of iodine- blue. On the nose, it has a complex bouquet of fruit, with smoky and spicy aromas. On the palate, it is full-bodied and long, with a lot of concentration, which augurs well for a long life ahead.

This is Samantha’s first Chenin Blanc release and with only 2000 bottles produced it is a very rare beast! We have 12 bottles arriving in May 22 and that’s it!
Greg Sherwood MW had his to say about in January – ” Made from grapes grown in Stanford with a small portion of skin contact, this maiden Chenin Blanc from Samantha O’Keefe is deliciously focused, pure and precise with a pronounced stony minerality of crushed gravel over lemon and tangerine peel, tart pear, white peach and flinty nuances suggesting a hint of reduction. Counter-intuitively, the palate is explosive and intense, bristling with green apple pastille, crunchy pear, liquid minerality infused with fresh fennel, dried herbs and hints of fynbos. But ultimately, this wine is defined by its uniquely taut, glassy acids that are cool, linear, crystalline and electrically fresh. A lovely lean, cool-climate expression of Chenin Blanc fruit! Drink from 2022 to 2034+
Red WineThe Reserve wines from Saint Clair represent the estate’s pinnacle wines – the best of the best. This 2019 has concentrated flavours of black cherry, blackcurrant, Kalamata olive, and perfumed wildflowers, that lead to an elegant palate with a structure reminiscent of finely powdered cocoa. The finish is long incorporating freshly roasted coffee beans, toasty oak and spice.
Ageing potential: This wine is drinking beautifully now or with careful cellaring will mature into a more complex wine that can be enjoyed for the next 8 to 10 years or beyond.
This vineyard site has been the foundation for some of Saint Clair’s finest wines. This is the vineyard where Saint Clair Family Estate first discovered the fruit to make their flagship Saint Clair Wairau Reserve Sauvignon Blanc. The fruit is sourced from a single vineyard in the lower Wairau Valley. The Block One site was previously part of the Wairau flood plain and is renowned for its deep, highly fertile, free-draining soils, which have been built up over time and help to produce the intensity of flavour in the resulting wine. The vineyard has a flat profile and is situated approximately three metres above sea level. It is now protected from flooding by a stopbank. Located in a slightly cooler site than the majority of the Marlborough Valley, the vines have a slower annual ripening period. The fruit is carefully monitored during the ripening stage and is harvested during the cooler evenings, at maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness.
