  This 2019 Classic Blend is a collaboration between Harry Hartman and Tongai Joseph Dhafana, a refugee who turned winemaker, an award-winning Sommelier, a wine judge, a philanthropist and the proud owner of the internationally recognised Mosi Wines and Spirits.

  In the glass, the wine unleashes a refreshing fragrance born from sun-baked-slate, ripe berry fruit, and a peppery perfume of lavender.   The wine is packed with dark fruit like blackberry, mulberry, and plum, with a cool, herbaceous gloss. Hints of rum and raisin positively points to full ripeness, joined by a notable yet balanced alcohol adding to the full, rounded texture of the wine. Clever use of oak adds structure while honouring the fruit, affirmed with a mellow and gentle pull of berry compote. Garigue aromas persist on the palate, edged with fresh acidity and supple tannin for a mouth-watering finish.   A coolness lingers on the palate with a gentler aftertaste of dark, sea salt chocolate.   A very serious wine that will reward over many years.  Decant for an hour before drinking.  Drink now to 2035

  2013 The Menzies Cabernet Sauvignon, Yalumba

  Since 1987, the Hill-Smith family has counted itself amongst those fortunate enough to produce an estate-grown Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. To own a vineyard upon that famous terra rossa soil over limestone is the holy grail of all Cabernet Sauvignon purists. Experimentation, innovation, minimalist intervention and small-batch winemaking has resulted in The Menzies’ reputation as one of the best wines of its type to emerge from the region – a wine of longevity, elegance and structure.

  The 2013 Menzies bouquet leads with violet and lilac floral notes to the tangy counterpoint of seaspray and pepper. The palate is rich and powerful; red fruits and dark chocolate on a robust tannin framework. The finish is long, complex and well worth savouring.

  The Vineyard

  The Menzies is in the heart of Coonawarra terra rossa country. The vineyard site is reasonably level, with the defining terroir difference coming from the soils. Our soil is red sandy loam over limestone, which is classic Cabernet Sauvignon dirt. Most of the vines for Yalumba The Menzies were planted in 1985 and are trellised tall with wide rows. Bunches are usually small with small berries giving a concentration that favours the creation of full bodied reds.

  Groot Constantia is the oldest wine estate in South Africa and has a remarkable history including having King Louis Philippe of France as there best customer!   Today they make exceptional wines in a sub-region of the Western cape called Constantia which is near Cape Town.

  Groot Constantia’s flagship red shows beautiful complexity on the nose, with ripe, rich flavours of blackcurrant, dark chocolate and graphite, enriched by notes of cinnamon and cedar wood from the generous use of new oak.   Château de Valois is a traditional right-bank Bordeaux from a small property with a growing reputation.  Beautifully traditional they blend Merlot and Cabernet Franc grown in iron-rich soils just a stone’s throw from Chateau Figeac and Chateau Cheval Blanc.

  The 2016 nose is bursting with blackberries, exotic spice and hints of smoky oak and cedar. On the palate, the texture is rich and generous, with soft tannins. The finish has a good freshness and is full of lingering ripe fruit.

  This is one of the finest Charmes de Kirwan, the second wine of famous Margaux property Chateau Kirwan, ever produced.
  In the glass is has a rich deep red colour with violet highlights, typical of young wines from great vintages. An intense nose blends notes of cherry and blackberry with subtle hints of chocolate. It is ample and unctuous in the mouth, with a distinct fleshy character. Understated tannins prolong the tasting experience while lending softness to the wine.   In the glass, the aromatics are deep and complex consisting of a mineral blackcurrant core with touches of anise, bay leaves and dark chocolate. Rich elements of rosemary, spearmint and moist forest floor reveal themselves as the tightly wound profile gently unfurls.  The palate has a powerful rush of cocoa powder, with dark forest berry fruits of blackcurrant and mulberry, peppered with notes of spiced ginger and caramel toffee. The seamlessly integrated palate of powdery tannins frame the perfectly weighted earthiness and fruit, giving a long texture that harks of the saline coastal influence.

  The second wine of Château Cantenac Brown is textured and opulent with rich aromas of red fruits complemented by notes of dark chocolate. Full and round, with the red fruit aromas echoed on the palate, the tannins are seamlessly integrated through to a powerful finish.

  The vineyard is managed using sustainable agriculture; strictly plant-based fertilisers are applied in moderation. The Cantenac Brown team uses traditional soil maintenance techniques to enhance the structural, chemical and biological properties of the soil. The vines have an average age of 35 years and are pruned according to the double Guyot method. They are meticulously cared for throughout the year, with pruning; removal of buds, leaves and secondary shoots; thinning out and yield control, all taking place to ensure the highest possible quality.

It reveals notes of cassis, blackberry and small notes of gravels/terroir associated with nice touches of strawberry/red fruits as well as discreet hints of pepper, liquorice, cardamom and spices.   This is the 2nd wine of Chateau Durfort-Vivens and is from the Margaux region of Bordeaux.  A refined and multi-nuanced Margaux wine with intense aromas of cassis and blackberries, with a well-structured body, polished tannins and delicate layers of oak.   Interestingly this wine was aged in Amphora.  The whole property has been biodynamic since 2016.

  L’Ecole Nº 41 has been producing premium, handcrafted varietal wines in the Walla Walla Valley since 1983 in the historic Frenchtown School in Lowden, Washington.

  Linseed oil, blackberry, cassis and leather aromas, flavours of ripe plum, currants and dark chocolate, very soft tannin indeed with a silky texture and an earthy, spicy finish.

  The winemakers at L’Ecole recommend the age-ability of this wine to be between 10 to 20 years, so at 10 years this 2010 is really starting to show at its best. Delicious now and for many more years yet! Basically we have done the hard work for you!

  2020 Guidalberto, Tenuta San Guido

  Sassicaia’s younger brother Guidalberto consistently offers incredible value from the Tenuta San Guido stable.   Nicolo Incisa della Rocchetta, Tenuta San Guido’s owner, explains how Guidalberto came into being: “first of all, [there was] the desire to see what we could accomplish with Merlot, a grape that we had never used before; second, the desire to offer the consumer a wine which could be appreciated at a younger age compared to our veteran Sassicaia”.

  The 2020 Guidalberto has an increased percentage of Merlot (60%) that brings added freshness to a wine that is in great shape for one so young. This the 21^st vintage of Guidalberto has a profound nose that offers ripe, fragrant fruit and sweet spice. Plum, strawberry, blackcurrant and forest floor reveal the interplay of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, which constitute equal parts of the blend this year. The palate is juicy and supple, with admirable freshness given the warm vintage, framed by fine tannins. Drink 2022-2030.

  2018 Rod and Spur Shiraz-Cabernet, Rockford

  This incredible blend of Shiraz & Cabernet Sauvignon is a uniquely Australian blend that pays homage to the great Aussie wines of yesteryear.    With plenty of sweet spice and brambly black fruit comes a concentrated blackcurrant and vanilla aroma following on to a rich, full-bodied palate. The flavour is full of crunchy black fruit with soft tannins, refreshing acidity and subtle vanilla sweetness.

  The name Rod & Spur acknowledges the contribution of Rockford’s growers who spend the cold Barossa winters hand-pruning their vines in the traditional rod and spur method. This wine is a return to the great Australian reds of the 1950’s and 60’s, when Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon blends dominated the premium market. This very Australian wine is not common in any other region of the world.

  Like all Rockford reds, the grapes for this wine go through a 1880’s Bagshaw de-stemmer, are open fermented and then gently basket pressed. All components are aged separately in a combination of seasoned American and French oak hogsheads and large oak casks for two years. This allows the tannins to soften and colours and flavours to consolidate, before being bottled under the highest quality cork.

  The 2018 vintage was described by Rockford’s winemaking team as ‘One of those years when things just fell into place. Despite the season being one of the driest in many decades, it lacked any prolonged heat waves or significant rainfall events. The Eden Valley Shiraz components, in particular, were standout in the warm dry conditions. The 2018 wines have striking colours, outstanding structure, richness and mouthfeel.

  2009 Shadrach Cabernet Sauvignon, Grant Burge

  Shadrach is one of the Grant Burge Icon wines that are named in honour of Meshach Burge, the great grandfather of founder Grant Burge who began an enduring family winemaking tradition.  The biblical origins of his name inspired the naming of this wine along with the story that Shadrach, with Abednego and Meshach, were cast into the fiery furnace by King Nebuchadnezzar in 600BC.

  Shadrach represents the best Cabernet Sauvignon from Grant Burge Wines and this 2009 vintage is a blend of 38% Barossa and 62% Eden Valley fruit.

  The palate is round and luscious with flavours following from the nose of blackberry, ripe plums with complex layers of chocolate, coffee and a little spice and meatiness. A powerful flavoursome wine, with elegant French oak tannins and displaying exceptional length.

  An exceptional wine revealing expressive aromatic layers, balanced concentration and wonderful complexity. Deep red fruits and blackberries are underpinned by earthy nuances, subtle spice and mineral notes with a touch of tobacco. The structured palate shows depth of flavour and integrated tannins, through to an everlasting finish. Drinking Window 2022 – 2030

  The grapes for this wine were carefully selected from small plots. The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from estate vineyards planted in the early 1990s, in Pirque and Los Morros, in Alto Maipo. The Pirque vineyard contains alluvial soils with medium composition with a high level of stone content, whereas Los Morros consists of soils of colluvial-alluvial origin. Both soil types have medium to low fertility, good depth of 1.5 to 2 metres and good drainage; ideal conditions to produce wines of character. The Carménère grapes come from an estate vineyard in the Colchagua Valley planted in the mid-1980s. The clay loam soil textures are dominant which is ideal for this variety as they retain soil moisture ensuring optimum and prolonged ripening. The Carignan grapes come from a rain-fed vineyard planted in 1958, in the Maule Valley. It contains soils with clay texture, high quartz content, subsoil of granitic origin and good drainage.
