  Bright aromas of citrus zest, peach and pear are complemented by hints of eucalyptus and a distinctive minerality. Refreshing and beautifully balanced, with citrus and floral notes leading a long, elegant finish.

  Valençay became an AOC appellation in 2003 and is situated in the eastern part of the Loire Valley, approximately 60 miles west of Sancerre. The terroir is characterised by clay, limestone and flinty soils which impart the distinctive mineral characters to the wine. The region is influenced by the northern, cool climate, resulting in lively wines from grapes with characteristic high levels of acidity. Domaine Minchin is certified by Haute Valeur Environmentale and the vineyards are managed according to a strict sustainable philosophy, known as la lutte raisonnée. The vineyard is planted with grass, and the soil is tilled and worked to ensure the health and vigour of the vine, while encouraging beneficial biodiversity.

  2018 Las Fincas Blanco 2 Garnachas , Chivite Family Estates

  Chivite Las Fincas Blanco 2 Garnachas is a barrel-fermented white wine made by the Chivite winery with the Garnacha Tinta and Garnacha Blanca grape varieties.  This unique wine is the result of various rosé winemaking experiment, during which they discovered a melting pot of aromas, textures and hues, some colourless, authentic Blanc de Noirs, with captivating and exotic aromas. This gave them the idea of creating a new white wine made solely from the Garnacha Tinta. The blend needed rounding out and something that would give the wine a bit more complexity on the nose so that came with the addition of a proportion of Garnacha Blanca fermented in barrel.

  The result is a wine that bears all the hallmarks of the Chivite wines and is therefore typical of the Legardeta estate, with an emphasis on acidic tension that brings freshness and balances the smoothness with a complex and nuanced bouquet.

  2014 Vermentino, Chalmers

  Chalmers make incredible characterful wines from Mediterranean grape varieties that they have imported, cultivated in vineyards in Heathcote, Victoria.   They released Australia’s first Vermentino wine in 2004 and it’s since become a trademark line in the range, their ‘go-to’ white. There are now more than 100 winemakers working with the grape across Australia and it’s no wonder when it loves the sunshine and makes such delicious wines with ultimate drinkability.

  Chalmers Vermentino is a truly unique iteration of the Mediterranean grape and this 2014 vintage marks a decade of Vermentino in Australia.  It opens in the glass with aromas of soft stonefruit, herbs and sea spray that is so distinctive to the Vermentino grape.  The palate is lively and racy with lovely savoury overtones. Think white nectarine, Amalfi lemons, Italian herbs and a crushed rock minerality as well as that gorgeous sea saltiness associated with the grape.   We love this wine at WR!

  The grapes come from the Chalmers vineyard in Heathcote and are grown on rich, red Cambrian soil, sitting 150-170m above sea level. The grapes are handpicked, whole bunch pressed with wild fermentation before the wine sits on less for 6 months.

  Tropical aromas of passionfruit, guava and blackcurrant combine with nettle and subtle chalky mineral notes. The rich, full palate with grapefruit and blackcurrant leaf is enveloped in green notes of nettle and pepper and a delicate sea salt character, through to a long, mineral finish.

  The grapes was sourced from a selection of vineyards located predominantly in the lower Wairau sub-region. This is what Saint Clair regards as Marlborough’s best subregion for Sauvignon Blanc, producing wines with heightened expression. These vineyards sit on alluvial, silt soils. Each vineyard block was harvested when it reached maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness.

  The Grüner Veltliner vines are grown in the Wachau, the most prestigious viticultural area in Austria. The vineyard is located on the steep terraces of the Spitzer Valley with proximity to the Danube. The temperature variation in the valley, with warmer days and cooler nights, has a significant role to play in the ripening of the berries. The vines are grown in Gneiss soils, made up of schist and granite with a high mineral content.

  This stunning Sauvignon blanc is made by one of the top New Zealand’s top wine makers, Ben Glover and is an homage to his late sister, Kate.

  It is a zesty Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc offers the best of what the region has to offer. There are lovely aromas of white peach, melon and tropical fruits.   2022 Txakoli, Hiruzta

  Hiruzta (pronounced “Ir-rosster”) is an estate winery in the northern Basque region of Spain.  The grapes are grown in their 11-hectare single vineyard, located at the foothills of Jaizkibel mountain, just 500 metres away from the Cantabric Sea. The salty sea breeze influence is one of the main characteristics that can be appreciated in the Hiruzta Txakoli (pronounced “Chaccoli”).  The aim of the winery is to restore the tradition of Txakoli production in Hondarribia after all the grape that Txakoli is made from is called Hondarrabi Zuri, named after the town the Hiruzta is based.

  The wine has rich aromas of crisp apples, pear, grapefruit and tropical pineapple are enhanced by a subtle, natural effervescence. Balanced and fresh on the palate, it has the slight characteristic of a pearl wine with well-integrated crisp acidity, hints of citrus and tropical fruits and a long aromatic finish.

  2020 ‘The Lark’ Chenin Blanc, Olifantsberg

  The ‘Lark’ from Olifantsberg is a top tier, Chenin Blanc and one for those obsessive seekers of the Chenin grape!  It has a clean-cut freshness and an exceptional balance of fresh stone fruit and bright citrus notes on a fleshy textured palate. Elegant and refined with a long expressive finish.

  The grapes for this exceptional wine come from a 0.6-hectare vineyard located on the fertile slopes of the Olifantsberg Mountain Range where they endure large diurnal temperature differences and strong winds, at altitudes from 250 to 450 metres above sea level. During the winter the mountain peaks are snow-covered, keeping the vines dormant for longer. Strong, constant winds characterise this block; they have a cooling effect and encourage a slow, gradual ripening of the grapes, helping to maintain healthy vines and contribute freshness and elegance to the wines. The soil in the vineyard is made up of sandstone with clay-shale and quartz. The vineyard is farmed in a sustainable manner, with only ‘green’ products used to prevent disease, thus helping to maintain the biodiversity within the vineyards and soils.

  The lark is found in many biomes in South Africa, each with distinct call and features depending on the biome. This wine is named after the Red Capped Lark which is found on the Olifantsberg farm. The lark resonates with this block of Chenin Blanc, as it too has its own expression and story to tell.
