  This is a spicy, juicy Côtes du Rhône with exuberant ripe red fruit framed by a good structure, rounded tannins and a lovely balance. A delicious and approachable Rhône blend with an elegant finish.

  The vines are grown in two plots located to the east and west of the Rhône (hence the name) and impart the complexity of the different Rhône terroirs. The complementary qualities from these two terroirs allow the 35-year-old Grenache vines to reveal all their potential: elegance and finesse come from the small yields of 35 hectolitres per hectare and clay-limestone subsoil of the Saint Geniès de Comolas terroir in the Gard, while the round pebbles and clay subsoil of the Travaillan in the Vaucluse impart structure and power to the blend.

  2019 Minervois ‘La Régence’, Domaine La Rouviole

  La Rouviole is located in the renowned Cru La Livinière area of Minervois.  Wines are made from blends of Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan from the best and oldest plots of the estate. 

  This 2019 Minervois ‘La Régence is a full-flavoured and perfumed wine showing notes of ripe cassis with elegant cedar and chocolate notes and a fine, velvety texture.

  The vineyard is located in the heart of the ‘Petit Causse’ terroir, in the Cru La Livinière production area, which lies between Carcassonne, Béziers and Narbonne. The 30-year old vines are grown on the hillside plots, on clay-limestone soil. The clay component retains moisture and nourishes the vines through the warm, summers, while the limestone imparts elegance to the resulting wines. The vineyard is orientated towards a southern exposure, which captures exceptional sunshine, over 300 days per year, which enables the grapes to reach excellent maturity and concentration. The Mediterranean is less than 25 miles away, which influences the vines with cooling oceanic breezes. The vineyard is surrounded by scrubland, with thyme, lavender, rosemary and almond, fig, cherry and olive trees all contributing to the aromatic complexity of the wines. The vineyard is managed using strict organic processes.

  2019 Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu Vielles Vignes, Domaine Saint Damien

  An opulent and spicy full-flavoured wine, with layered flavours of prunes and garrigue from this award-winning producer.

  The vineyards are located in the relatively new appellation of Plan de Dieu, which translates as Plan of God in English. Despite the first historical mentions of the “Plan Dei”, which date back to a parchment from 1326, the lieu-dit of Plan de Dieu was only designated a red wine producing appellation in 2005. The climate here is classic Mediterranean with the additional influence of the Mistral winds. The terroir sits on an alluvial plateau with calcareous gravel, which retains water, helping to preserve the vines during the hot and often arid summer months.

  2020 ‘1753’ Grenache Sans Sulfites, Château de Campuget

  Characterised by freshness, finesse and delicacy, this Grenache offers lovely purity of fruit with cherry notes layered with subtle floral aromas and spicy notes. Soft, supple tannins lend structure to this elegant wine.

  The sustainably cultivated grapes come from the Château’s vineyard, situated 15 kilometres south of Nîmes, near the village of Manduel in the heart of the AOP of the Costières de Nîmes. However, winemaker Frank-Lin Dalle has chosen to designate this wine as Vin de France to distinguish the distinctive style of this wine, which has been made without sulphites. Sourced from the best plots of Grenache on the estate, where the main character is the soil, which is formed of ‘galets’, an accumulation of rounded pebbles that have been deposited by the overflowing Rhône River thousands of years ago. Due to this natural soil filter; the vine’s roots can easily draw the necessary water for their growth. The grapes also benefit from the Mediterranean sunshine, encouraging maximum phenolic maturity

  The winding road leading to the plots of Syrah vines located on the terraces at the foot of La Livinière gave its name to this expressive wine.   In the glass La Rouge opens with aromas rich black fruits, smoke and cocoa. Inky purple in the glass the palate displays full-bodied richness, beautifully integrated acidity, juicy ripe tannins and no hard edges.

  This 2020 Côtes du Rhône has an enticing nose of concentrated, ripe red berry fruits, enhanced by subtle notes of black pepper and spice. Supple and rounded on the palate, supported by a delicate tannic structure.  The Côtes du Rhône vineyards are situated mainly in Gard, with over 50% of the grapes coming from Côtes du Rhône Villages vineyards; the remainder coming from the named parcels of Plan de Dieu and Rasteau.   2019 Lirac, Domaine des Cigalounes

  Domaine des Cigalounes winemaker Emmanuelle Gauthier is a non-interventionist and looks for finesse and silky tannins in his wines rather than over-extraction.  His 2019 Lirac is just that – a concentrated wine with aromas of deep, wild cherry fruits and spicy notes. Full flavoured with a smooth texture, silky tannins and a long, satisfying finish.  A portion of the blend was matured in barrel imparting a lovely subtle complexity.

  Lirac is an appellation on the western side of the southern Rhône Valley. Domaine de Cigalounes is a seven-hectare property which has been certified organic since 2012. It is located on the rocky plateau between the villages of Tavel and Lirac, on the opposite bank of the Rhône from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The vines are grown according to traditional philosophies, in red soils with pebbly topsoil.

  2018 Rasteau, Domaine Combe Julière

  An opulent wine with a depth of concentrated black fruit. The tannins are present but enjoyable as they are polished and integrated. Black fruits on the nose are echoed on the palate with a touch of liquorice and spice through to a long, silky finish.  The 2018 summer was very hot and dry in the southern Rhône, which allowed the grapes to reach excellent maturity, resulting in expressive wines with wonderful fruit concentration.

  The vineyard is situated in the Rasteau appellation on hillside slopes which offer good drainage and sun exposure. The soil layers are complex due to their various origins. Brown clay, which comprises sediment from the Alps from the miocène period, and grey clay, which is made up of sediment from algae, overlap here at root level imparting extra complexity to the wine. The sunny weather and strong northern wind, known as the Mistral, keep the vines dry and healthy. The vines have an average age of 70 years and are cultivated according to sustainable methods.

  An aromatic and fruity blend with crunchy red and black brambly fruits complemented by a touch of peppery spice and a subtle hint of violet. Juicy and fresh with a lovely purity of fruit.

  The grapes come from the AOP Côtes de Roussillon, where the vineyards are located within a natural amphitheatre open to the Mediterranean Sea, and are surrounded by mountain ranges. The climate is Mediterranean, strongly influenced by cooling coastal breezes combined with freshness from the foothills of the Pyrenees, which temper the hot, arid summers. The vines are grown on the Roussillon plains where the soils are made up of alluvial marls with black schist, which imparts great aromatic complexity to the wines, characterised by notes of black fruits, garrigue and freshness.   Domaine Gauby is located close to the small town of Calce in the Roussillon. Now run by Gérard Gauby, his wife Ghislaine and their son Lionel, who is responsible for the winemaking, the domaine has gained a reputation for making wines of exemplary freshness in a hot climate.

  The belief in the natural expression of terroir led the owners to introduce “la lutte raisonnée” in 1996.   Rich, smooth and flavoursome with complex layers of black-berried fruit, brambly notes, a touch of the local wild garrigue and gentle spice. Elegant yet sumptuous.

  This Domaine stretches from the high terraces of the ‘La Crau’ and descends into the Solitude Valley. The estate covers a patchwork of soils, from sandy soil known as ‘Safres’, which offer good drainage, to clay and pebble. The vineyard has an abundance of rounded quartzite stones, known as “Galet Roulés”, which derive from the Villafranchian period. These stones absorb heat during the day then radiate it at night, promoting full grape maturity.
