2018 Grand Constance, Groot Constantia, 375ml
£4995Add to BasketGroot Constantia is the oldest wine estate in South Africa and has a remarkable history including having King Louis Philippe of France as their best customer! Today they make exceptional wines in a sub-region of the Western cape called Constantia which is near Cape Town.
The touch of red muscat gives the wine a beautiful amber colour. The nose of the 2018 Grand Constance shows an abundance of ripe and dried fruit, like crushed pineapple, apricot and raisins. The ageing in barrels adds some wood spice and a hint of honey to the wine. The dried fruit and honey follow on the palate, and a fresh acidity balances the sweetness.
The Muscat grapes are grown in a vineyard block right next to the famous Manor House, which is situated at 80 to 90 metres above sea level. The low yielding vines are planted on a south-east facing slope. The climate is Mediterranean with cooling breezes from the Atlantic Ocean encouraging balance and complexity in the grapes.

2000 Tokaji Aszu Eszencia ‘Imperium’, Chateau Dereszla, 375ml
£11800Add to BasketChâteau Dereszla is world-renowned for its sweet wines made from grapes affected by Botrytis cinerea, also known as “noble rot”. The wine is made from hand-picked grapes from Chateau Dereszla’s finest plots and made into a paste, which is then added to a base wine for fermentation for 14 days. The wine is then aged in French oak for more than 2 years prior to bottling. The elegant label replicates a design created by Carl Faberge for Dereszla’s centenary in 1907.
This is a sensational Tokaji Aszu Eszencia from Dereszla. Only produced in the very finest years, (made twice by Dereszla in the last 22 years), and now a defunct classification, this is a very rare slice of history in a bottle. Incredibly sweet yet with perfectly poised acidity, the wine has a complex apricot and Seville orange marmalade fruit character mingled with spice and gingerbread notes. With an impressive 252 grams per litre of sugar, it is no wonder the wine is syrupy and very rich, but the constant freshness provided by the acidity keeps the wine balanced and makes it a wonderful match to dark chocolate desserts, good quality cheeseboards and rich pates.

2016 Mount Edelstone Shiraz, Henschke
£13950Add to BasketThe Mount Edelstone vineyard, situated in the Eden Valley, was planted in 1912 by Ronald Angas, a descendant of George Fife Angas, who founded South Australia. Unusual for its time, it was planted solely to shiraz. The ancient 500-million-year-old soils on the vineyard are deep red-brown clay-loam to clay, resulting in low yields from the nearly 100-year-old dry-grown ungrafted Centenarian vines. First bottled as a single-vineyard wine in 1952, it became recognised as one of Australia’s greatest Shiraz wines.
2016 is the 64th release of Mount Edelstone. In the glass, it is deep crimson in colour with violet hues. Fragrant, spicy aromas of black pepper, sage, bay leaf and star anise are interwoven with vibrant plum, blackberry and blueberry, and gentle notes of tarragon and cedar. The palate is complex and textured with rich and concentrated flavours of mulberry, blackberry and plum, layered with sage, black pepper and star anise. The finish is beautifully balanced, with long, velvety tannins and excellent depth.

La Rioja Alta is the gold standard for traditional bodegas: a winery that ages their wines the old-fashioned way, meaning three years in barrel with two rackings a year, followed by three years in bottle.
The 2015 comprises 78% Tempranillo from Fuenmayor and Cenicero blended together with 22% Garnacha from the famous ‘La Pedriza’ vineyard in Tudelilla.
“The nose stands out for its power, a highly complex blend of spicy and balsamic aromas of sweet liquorice, patisserie, vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa, coffee and nutmeg, and notes of stewed red fruits. Outstanding balance, pleasant freshness and great structure in the mouth, with supple, round tannins. Very pleasant mouthfeel.
