Grant Burge

2015 Corryton Park Cabernet Sauvignon, Grant Burge

Barossa Valley, AustraliaVintage: 2012

At the southern end of the Barossa near Mount Crawford there is a magnificent property established over 150 years ago, the entrance marked by two grand pillars – Corryton Park. Grant Burge had admired Corryton Park since He was a small boy. One of the highest and coolest sites in the Barossa region, it provides perfect conditions for creating first-class Cabernet with finesse, great depth and complexity. In his pursuit of excellence in Cabernet Sauvignon, he purchased the property in 1999.

In the glass, this 2015 Corryton Park is deep plum in colour and richly perfumed with aromas of blackcurrant, spearmint leaves, cedarwood characters and woody spice with underlying aromas of pine needle, vanilla and subtle char with hints of liquorice and new leather.  The palate is surprisingly soft for cabernet; a fleshy, juicy cabernet with refined tannins and acidity. An all-round gorgeous glass of wine.

Description

Grant Burge comes from a long line of winemakers in Barossa that date back to the mid-1800s. Grant is the fifth generation of this winemaking dynasty and formed Grant Burge Wines in 1988 with his wife, Helen.

Grant Burge’s winemaking team is led by Chief Winemaker, Craig Stansborough. While he believes that attention to detail is of the utmost importance when crafting beautiful Barossa wines, the team is blessed with fantastic fruit that requires polishing and shaping, rather than heavy-handed manipulation in the winery.

The breadth of the Grant Burge range is wide-ranging, from sparkling and rosé wines to classic Shiraz, Grenache and fortified wines. However, the winemaking style that links them all is the commitment to enhancing flavour, generosity and drinkability.

As well as big and bold reds for the drinkers who love this style, Grant Burge has also curated a selection of elegant and stylish wines that cater to drinkers who appreciate this style. The versatility of the region is one of its greatest strengths.

With many iconic wines in the range including the ‘The Holy Trinity’ GSM or 98 points scoring Meshach Shiraz, Grant Burge wines have continued to gather much-deserved acclaim.

Not only has the Meshach 2012 been given an incredible 98 points by James Halliday, it was also recently awarded the Gold Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2019 and has been list on the Barossa Grape and Wine Association’s inaugural Barossa Super 100 Classification, a list of the most sought after and collectable wines in Barossa.
