Chateau La Tour de Mons

2015 Marquis de Mons, Chateau La Tour de Mons

Bordeaux, FranceVintage: 2015

A prestigious property in the Margaux appellation, Château la Tour de Mons has been part of the Médoc landscape since the 13th century and since 2012 it has belonged to the portfolio of the Grands Crus Châteaux and benefits from the advice of the famous oenologist Éric Boissenot.

Marquis de Mons is 2nd wine from this chateau and this offering comes from spectacularly generous and supple 2015 vintage.  Aromas of refined mulberry, cassis and fresh tobacco with a touch of roasted meat around the edges, alongside a hint well-handled oak. Medium-full bodied with lovely balance and impressive concentration, finishing with soft, satisfying broad-grained tannins.

Description

The origins of the château date back to the 13th century. Amongst its illustrious owners was Pierre de Mons, who acquired the property in 1623 and gave it his name. Château Marquis de Mons is a single block vineyard, surrounded by a wall and located in the northern part of the Margaux appellation near the banks of the Garonne, as are all the very best Médoc Crus.

Since the 1990s, a major renovation programme has been implemented by the new owners: construction of a new winery and an air-conditioned storage cellar, major drainage programme and management of the vineyard in the interests of sustainable ecological practices.

The Château is located in the northern part of the Margaux appellation, on the banks of the Garonne. The 58 hectares of vineyards are composed of Garonne gravels and clay-limestone.

Fermentation is carried out in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks allowing slow fermentation at low temperature. The wine ages up to 12 months in French oak barrels.
