Description
Domaine Jean Chauvenet is a highly regarded family-run estate based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, at the heart of Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. The domaine was established in the mid-20th century by Jean Chauvenet and has become a benchmark for traditional, terroir-expressive Pinot Noir from this storied village. Since the 1990s, the estate has been managed by Christophe Drag, Jean Chauvenet’s son-in-law, who has steadily elevated the domaine’s reputation through a combination of precise vineyard management and thoughtful winemaking.
The domaine farms approximately 9 hectares of vines, with a focus on Nuits-Saint-Georges village and Premier Cru sites, including Les Vaucrains, Les Perrières, Les Damodes, and Les Bousselots. These parcels are cultivated with sustainable methods, and the emphasis is always on expressing the unique identity of each terroir.
In the cellar, Christophe Drag employs a classical, minimal-intervention approach: indigenous yeasts, gentle extraction, and a balanced use of oak (typically around 30% new barrels for Premier Crus). The resulting wines are known for their clarity, structure, and ageing potential, offering a refined yet soulful expression of Nuits-Saint-Georges.
Domaine Jean Chauvenet is a favourite among Burgundy purists for its consistency, integrity, and ability to deliver authentic, site-driven wines that age gracefully and speak eloquently of their origin.
