Fattoria Le Pupille2022 Morellino di Scansano, Fattoria Le Pupille
Tuscany, ItalyVintage: 2022
The 2022 Morellino di Scansano from Fattoria Le Pupille is a radiant expression of southern Tuscany, capturing the soul of Maremma in a glass. Bright, perfumed, and immensely drinkable, this vintage showcases the elegance and freshness that define the estate’s signature style.
On the nose, it reveals an enticing bouquet of dark red cherry and wild red berries, gracefully layered with floral notes of peony and red rose. Hints of dried herbs add complexity and a touch of Mediterranean character. The palate is crisp and vibrant, offering a lively core of juicy red fruit supported by smooth, finely-knit tannins. Its refreshing acidity drives a long, flavorful finish, where delicate spice lingers and invites another sip.
This wine is perfect for enjoying now through 2028, whether on its own or paired with food. It shines alongside sauce-based first courses—especially more elaborate preparations—and complements traditional Maremma second courses with ease, bringing harmony and brightness to every meal. A pure, expressive Sangiovese that speaks effortlessly of its origins.

Description
Le Pupille is located in the south of the Tuscan Maremma, in the province of Grosseto, a region best known for the Sangiovese-based Morellino di Scansano. Geppetti’s first vintage was 1985. At the time, Le Pupille was a small winery with just 6 hectares of vineyards and was really more of a hobby than a pure commercial venture. The family had close ties with Giacomo Tachis, who suggested grafting Cabernet Sauvignon onto existing Sangiovese rootstocks. The first Saffredis (1987-1990) were 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the original estate’s original vineyard holdings.
Quality and consistency increased noticeably when Christian Le Sommer, former winemaker at Chateau Latour, took over winemaking with the 2000 vintage. Le Sommer introduced malolactic fermentation in steel, which is one of the reasons the post-2000 wines retain incredible freshness, aromatic complexity and nuance.
