Alex Foillard2022 Brouilly, Alex Foillard
Beaujolais, FranceVintage: 2022
Alex Foillard is a rising star in the Beaujolais winemaking scene. The son of the famous Jean and Agnès Foillard, his wines are a compelling expression of Gamay.
His 2022 Brouilly is crafted from vines approximately 50 years old, rooted in granite-rich soils. It showcases the depth and elegance characteristic of the Brouilly cru.
In the glass, it opens with an inviting bouquet of ripe red fruits, raspberry and cherry that are interwoven with delicate floral tones and understated hints of spice and crushed stone minerality. On the palate, it is fresh and vibrant, brimming with juicy red fruit flavours supported by a supple, velvety texture. Well-integrated acidity and fine tannins provide structure and balance, carrying through to a persistent, elegant finish that speaks to both finesse and terroir.
While approachable now, the 2022 Brouilly has the potential to evolve gracefully over the next 5 to 7 years.

Description
The son of Jean and Agnès Foillard, Alex studied and developed his winemaking skills in Montpellier, Beaune, Australia and Japan. He began working at their Morgon domaine in 2015 and set about creating his own estate. Alex follows his father’s philosophy – a lot of work in the vineyards and the minimum of intervention in the cellar, to ensure his wines reveal all the nuances of each terroir. A rising star, his wines are going from strength to strength.
Alex Foillard employs traditional methods, including whole-cluster fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine undergoes fermentation in concrete tanks for 21 days, with daily pump-overs during the initial days to enhance extraction. Ageing occurs in concrete tanks for five months, followed by six months of bottle ageing, allowing the wine to develop complexity while preserving its fresh fruit character.
