  The 2001 Doisy-Daëne is the second vintage made by the legend Denis Dubourdieu and is marked by stunningly luscious and silky textures and flavours that perfectly balance sweetness with fresh acidity and minerality.   In the glass, the nose has pronounced honeycomb, honey and lanolin.  The palate is luscious and rich with vibrant citrus notes particularly orange and lemon.   The finish is refined and balanced leaving you reaching for another sip.

  2011 Pinot Noir ‘Museum Release’, Dog Point Vineyard

  Dog Point has since their first vintage in 2002, set aside a limited quantity of each vintage for later release, with this 2011 being the latest release from their museum.

  In its prime now this wonderful Marlborough Pinot Noir is a deep ruby in the glass, with aromas of spice and ripe red fruits imbued with hints of leather and mushroom, together with subtle spicy oak savouriness. On the palate, deliciously flavoured with intense red fruits, subtle sweetness and excellent balance. Well-integrated oak leads to a delicate lingering soft, supple finish.

  Dog Point Pinot is similar in production to some of the great houses of Burgundy and is made using 75% destemmed grapes and 25% whole bunches, which spends a total of 18 months in oak (30% new).

  2018 Grand Constance, Groot Constantia, 375ml

  Groot Constantia is the oldest wine estate in South Africa and has a remarkable history including having King Louis Philippe of France as their best customer!   Today they make exceptional wines in a sub-region of the Western cape called Constantia which is near Cape Town.

  The touch of red muscat gives the wine a beautiful amber colour. The nose of the 2018 Grand Constance shows an abundance of ripe and dried fruit, like crushed pineapple, apricot and raisins. The ageing in barrels adds some wood spice and a hint of honey to the wine. The dried fruit and honey follow on the palate, and a fresh acidity balances the sweetness.

  The Muscat grapes are grown in a vineyard block right next to the famous Manor House, which is situated at 80 to 90 metres above sea level. The low yielding vines are planted on a south-east facing slope. The climate is Mediterranean with cooling breezes from the Atlantic Ocean encouraging balance and complexity in the grapes.

  An intensely flavoured but elegant Amarone, with concentrated flavours of ripe blueberries, blackberries and cherries, enhanced by spicy oak. The palate is rich, full bodied and complex, with beautiful balance and a long, elegant finish.

  Punta 470 takes its name from the altitude of Ca’Rugate’s six hectare estate vineyard in the hills around Montecchia di Crosara, where the grapes are grown at 470 metres above sea-level. This elevation allows the grapes to retain balancing acidity to the concentrated fruits and enables Ca’ Rugate to produce a wine which is elegant and food-friendly.

  2017 La Reserve De Leoville Barton, St. Julien

  The second wine of Leoville Barton, this traditionally styled Bordeaux has an expressive nose of forest berries with hints of cedar, coffee, and a touch of vanilla spice. Elegant and refined, with a long finish.

  Despite initially challenging weather, the 2018 Bordeaux vintage was excellent. The winter was unusually wet and remained so throughout spring. Hail also struck some vineyards during this period. However, conditions eased, allowing for a successful flowering followed by a particularly hot, dry summer with surprisingly cool nights, from June through to September. September brought welcome rains, reviving the vines. Harvest took place under ideal conditions, producing small, thick-skinned and highly concentrated berries, resulting in rich wines, with balancing acidity and a fresh, fruity appeal.

  2020 Shiraz ‘Mast’, Mount Langi Ghiran

  Trevor Mast was a legend of the Australian wine scene. Among his many accomplishments, he is most revered as a pioneer of cool climate Shiraz. The Mast Shiraz is a tribute to his memory, recognising his role in establishing the reputation of Mount Langi Ghiran. Thanks to his foresight, the Langi vineyards showcase the ultimate expression of cool climate Shiraz.

  Fruit for this wine is solely hand-picked and sourced exclusively from a single block on the Mount Langi Ghiran Estate Vineyard. This block was planted by Trevor Mast himself some 26 years ago.

  In the glass, this outstanding Shiraz has a vibrant, deep garnet colour with aromas of concentrated raspberries and redcurrants with hints of red liquorice and cola spice. Eucalyptus and vanilla are also present.  On the palate, it has concentrated forest fruits with blackberry complementing the red fruits experienced on the nose. Undertones of mocha, cigar box and a brown earthiness. Supple, mouth-coating tannins give a structure that will hold this wine for years to come.

  2020 Guidalberto, Tenuta San Guido

  Sassicaia’s younger brother Guidalberto consistently offers incredible value from the Tenuta San Guido stable.   Nicolo Incisa della Rocchetta, Tenuta San Guido’s owner, explains how Guidalberto came into being: “first of all, [there was] the desire to see what we could accomplish with Merlot, a grape that we had never used before; second, the desire to offer the consumer a wine which could be appreciated at a younger age compared to our veteran Sassicaia”.

  The 2020 Guidalberto has an increased percentage of Merlot (60%) that brings added freshness to a wine that is in great shape for one so young. This the 21^st vintage of Guidalberto has a profound nose that offers ripe, fragrant fruit and sweet spice. Plum, strawberry, blackcurrant and forest floor reveal the interplay of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, which constitute equal parts of the blend this year. The palate is juicy and supple, with admirable freshness given the warm vintage, framed by fine tannins. Drink 2022-2030.
