The Castello di Buttrio vineyard is situated on the hillside slopes at 142 metres above sea level, which ensures excellent air circulation to keep the vines healthy. The Ribolla Gialla vines range from 10 to 60 years in age and are planted in soils that are made up of layers of marl and sandstone of Eocene origin, known locally as ‘ponca’ in Friulian, which contains marine fossils originating from the Adriatic Sea. This soil produces textured and concentrated wines which are balanced by cutting acidity, thanks to the soil’s high pH and cool temperature.

This wine is made from the wonderful Greco grape that is grown on the famous Tufo (volcanic) soils that are believed to lend the wine its perfume and mineral complexity. This wine is named after Campo Bastiglia, where Ca’Rugate’s vineyard is located, nestled in the hills around Montecchia di Crosara. The fruit is sourced from a selection of the best grapes. Vinified from a combination of dried and undried grapes. The undried grapes were destemmed and fermented immediately after the harvest. The dried grapes were allowed to dry gently in well-ventilated rooms for approximately four to five months, concentrating the flavours, sweetness and colour. The dried grapes were added later; they were fermented in stainless steel for one week, prior to being pressed. The wine was then transferred to small barrels to finish fermentation. It was then matured in wood for eight to 10 months.
Mongrana is the quintessential expression of the colours, sights and sounds of the Maremma region: fruity and intense, fresh and embracing, the wine takes its name – and its character – from that of the noble family of knights depicted by the Italian Renaissance poet Ludovico Ariosto in his epic masterpiece Orlando Furioso.
The charm of Mongrana does not take long to reveal. Well-defined aromas of ripe fruit, morello cherry, blackberry and blueberry jump out of the glass, anticipating a complex bouquet of kirsch, ivy, and pine needles, enriched by a touch of liquorice.
On the palate, it offers a juicy, fresh sip with soft tannins. The long finale is savoury, with a mineral note that persists in the mouth.
This 2019 Vapolicella Superiore an utterly delicious red wine blended from the holy trinity of Corvina (45%), Corvinone (40%) and Rondinella (15%) grapes. It opens in the glass with intense aromas of black fruit and cherries, combined with a hint of spice from the wood. The palate is mellow, balanced and rounded, complete with elegant tannins and a smooth finish.

Ca Rugate’s vineyards are situated in the district of Montecchia di Crosara, at an altitude of 450 metres above sea level. The six hectare Campo Lavei vineyard is situated on the hillside, where the vines are grown in limestone and pebble soils.

The estate covers 84.5 hectares of dry-farmed vineyards among the rolling hills of the Vino Nobile region of Tuscany. The vineyards are planted with a minimum of 70% Sangiovese (known locally as Prugnolo Gentile), Canaiolo and international grape varietals. These vineyards are trained according to modern trellising methods with clones and rootstocks varying according to soil type. Planting densities here often exceed 8,500 plants per hectare, yielding wines of great concentration and finesse.
This wine has a deep ruby red colour with violet highlights. The Refosco is characterised by intense notes of red berry fruit, cherries and spice box perfumes. With typically pleasant acidity and good tannins, the wine has a lovely structure and body.

The vineyards are beautifully tended by Graziano Specogna, and the quality of the fruit he brings to the winery is impeccable. The soil is loam and planting density is up to 3,500 plants per hectare. The vineyards were planted in 1968 and vines are Guyot trained.
