  The wines of Castello Vicchiomaggio truly show off the Sangiovese grape at its best. Vicchiomaggio is consistently classified amongst Italy’s top estates and winemaker John Matta has been named IWSC Italian Winemaker of the Year four times in the last 14 years.

  The 2023 Chianti Classico ‘San Jacopo’ is named after an antique farmhouse located on the wine estate.   It is a lovely expression of Chianti, with red cherry and cranberry fruits, the palate has good substance and a lingering, rounded finish.

  The vineyards are located in the heart of the Chianti Classico region and sit at an altitude of 255 to 265 metres above sea level. The Chianti Classico area is characterised by a Mediterranean climate and the soil, which is called “Galestro”, is rich in clay and large stones. The soils in this vineyard are made up of a high proportion of heavy clay- approximately 30%- which is renowned for its cooling properties and water retention for the vine, as well as for producing bold wines from the Sangiovese grape. Planted at a density of 5,600 vines per hectare, the vines are pruned according to the Single Guyot method which ensures low yields of approximately 52 hectolitres per hectare. Particular attention is paid to the direction in which the vines are planted; they are all south-facing, ensuring maximum exposure to the sun throughout the day.

  The 2020 Agostino Petri Chianti Classico Riserva is a perfumed and elegant wine, showing aromas of dark cherry and violet complemented by a touch of cedar. Opulent, with elegant tannins enveloping the layers of fruit through to a smooth and velvety finish.

  The grapes are sourced from the Agostino Petri vineyard, located in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. It sits at an altitude of 255 to 265 metres above sea level. Planted at a density of 5,600 vines per hectare, the vines are pruned according to the single Guyot method which ensures low yields of approximately 40 hectolitres per hectare. The soils are made up of a high proportion of heavy clay- approximately 30%, which is renowned for its cooling properties and water retention for the vine, as well as for producing bold wines from the Sangiovese grape.   2020 Chianti Classico Organic, Querciabella

  Querciabella Chianti Classico has been the centrepiece of Querciabella’s winemaking operations since the winery’s debut. Consistently ranking at the highest levels of critical acclaim it’s a real delight for wine and food enthusiasts all over the world.

  A beautiful balancing act of crisp, inviting acidity, pure varietal fruit flavour and character, Querciabella Chianti Classico represents the pinnacle of high-altitude, perfectly exposed Sangiovese fruit.  Its complexity and consistency derive from sourcing the grapes from top sites across the Classico region.

  Each vineyard is cared for on a lot by lot basis to respect the essence of each site. The same focus and precision in the cellar, allow for natural winemaking with minimal intervention, that preserves the purity of the fruit. After about 14 months in fine-grained oak barrels, and regular racking, only the best lots make it to the final blend. Once bottled, the wine rests patiently for a few more months before release. This patient maturation adds a layer of softness and enhances the varietal fruit notes typical of quality Sangiovese.

  Sangiovese practically screams for anything with tomato sauce and the natural pairing with Tuscan regional food is, of course, Pappa al Pomodoro. A heartier option is to pair this full-bodied wine with a dish that can stand up to its great structure and complexity like Spaghetti Bolognese.

  Elegant balsamic notes prelude layers of cherry, floral notes, liquorice and chocolate. Warm on the palate but with great harmony between the full texture and a lifted finish.

  ‘Cultus’ in Latin means cultivation and this wine is made from Sangiovese and the traditional complementary varieties of Colorino, Canaiolo and Ciliegiolo. The newer vines have been replanted using the traditional ‘massal selection’ propagation method, which involves taking cuttings from the exceptionally old vines on the property; this is key to Badia a Coltibuono’s vision and its relationship with the terroir and its history
