2010 Barbera La Court Vigna Veja Nizza, Michele Chiarlo
£7350Add to BasketThis fascinating vineyard is located at the top of the highest hill of the La Court estate and has an exposure of 360 degrees surface area of the vineyard. Set within a UNESCO World Heritage Site the vineyard that the grapes for this wine came from is only 1 hectare in size and was planted in 1964 so production is very limited and only in the best years.

2017 The Old Bloke and The Three Young Blonds, d’Arenberg
£7500Add to BasketA mix of gnarly, old Shiraz partnered with youthful, exotic and fragrant white varieties. The Shiraz offers a nose brimming with dark, earthen fruits, woody spices and rich blackberry aromas. Viognier adds fragrance in the form of apricot, ginger and florals, Roussanne delivers an exotic, dried almond and papaya note, and the Marsanne contributes pistachio and yellow stonefruit.
The palate is generous, with layers of fruit characters that ebb and flow through the entire length. The tannin structure is unique, thanks to the mingling of red and white phenolics. The rustic, chunky, mid-palate Shiraz tannins are tempered by the lusciousness of the white varieties, the finish enhanced by the addition of fragrant, flowery tannins, mainly on account of the Viognier and more nutty, walnut skin texture, from the Roussanne.
A complex and alluring wine that evolves in the glass. So much individual character and much to take in, but somehow we are left with a sense of harmony between the old bloke and the three young blondes.

2019 Aroha Pinot Noir, Craggy Range
£7500Add to BasketA savoury Pinot Noir with chanterelle mushroom and white truffle aromas leading to a lively, pure and beautifully balanced palate with a concentrated core of red fruit.
Aroha, a term of endearment in the Māori language of New Zealand, carries the profound essence of love. In perfect alignment with its evocative namesake, Aroha is a labor of love, meticulously handcrafted from the union of two exceptional parcels of Pinot Noir, one of which is graced by the legendary Abel clone.
These grapes are nurtured on the slopes of an elevated terrace within the Te Muna Road vineyard, where an ancient, long-dry riverbed once wove its course. In its wake, it left behind soil teeming with the richness and nutrients ideal for the cultivation of Pinot Noir. This terroir, imbued with history and character, serves as the cradle of Aroha’s distinct and captivating flavors.

2012 3D Pinot Noir, Clifton Brewer
£7950Add to BasketThis is an outstanding Pinot Noir from the renowned Brewer-Clifton. The 3D vineyard is nestled between Lafond and Ampelos in the Santa Rita Hills and was the first vineyard planted by the Greg Brewer and Steve Clifton in 2007. It is pure and elegant on the nose with expressive aromas of red cherries, candied raspberry and strawberry. The palate is expansive with flavours of sweet fruits, tea leaf and fine spices. Lovely structure and precision here. Incredible finesse and purity.
At Brewer Clifton they strive to remove the winemaker’s signature, allowing the voice of the vineyard to be the overriding expression. Only neutral barrels are employed and they strive for whole cluster fermentation, interestingly the fruit from each vineyard is handled identically from harvest to bottling, allowing the true essence of each site to be expressed.
They also farm with a focus of ripening the stems of the bunch alongside the fruit, allowing the cluster to be in harmony. Working with the stems allows for wines that are structured, earthy and balanced with the exceptional Santa Rita Hills fruit. The analogy they use is roasting fish or meat on the bone, the bone offers complex flavours very different than taking it off of the bone to cook it.

£8900Add to BasketThe 2015 Finca Martelo Reserva is a juicy wine, thrilling the mouth with plentiful red and black fruit. A top-quality Reserva wine produced by a winery steeped in expertise creating classic Rioja wines.
Head winemaker Julio Saenz refers to it as “our little Burgundy” because of how closely it represents this unique location. In fact, the wine itself is a field blend, 95% Tempranillo with 5% other varieties including Mazuelo, Garnacha, and even Viura. The chalk soils and 80-year-old vines at Torre de Oña produce a fuller, riper style of Rioja, while the high altitude and Atlantic influence in Rioja Alavesa keeps the wine fresh and elegant. This style is complemented by the use of 20% French oak and shorter maturation, alongside La Rioja Alta’s ultra-traditional methods such as racking by hand.
