    2020 ‘Monograph’ Assyrtiko, Gaia Wines

    £1895

A youthful and refreshing Assyrtiko, with lifted citrus fruits, exuberant tropical fruits and a touch of honeysuckle. Fresh and zesty with a mineral backbone and lovely, crisp finish.

The grapes for the Monograph Assyrtiko come from vineyards located in the semi-mountainous Koutsi region of Nemea. Unlike the bone-dry, volcanic soils of its native Santorini, the calcareous soils of mainland Greece impart an entirely different character to the varietal, giving it a wider range of exotic fruit flavours and aromas.

2023 ‘Gravel Castle’ Chardonnay, Simpsons Wine Estate

    £1895

Simpsons’ Wine Estate creates fine English sparkling wines, which reflect the exquisite characteristics of their iconic, chalk terroir in the North Downs of Kent.

This is the 4th vintage of this exceptionally popular English Chardonnay, which has bowled over critics and wine lovers alike.  Made from exclusively estate-grown grapes, the Gravel Castle Chardonnay is a zesty, fruit-driven and unoaked Chardonnay, created from Burgundian still wine clones.  It displays fresh, citrus aromas, refreshing tropical fruit flavours and a smooth, textured palate.

Simpsons Wine Estate is situated in the Elham Valley; an unspoilt seam in the North Downs of Kent where the contours of the land, the climate and the soil are excellent for viticulture. The intensely lime-rich chalk soil forms part of the same chalk ridge that stretches from southern England through Champagne and on to Burgundy. The grapes come from the Roman Road vineyard, named after the route the Romans first marched when invading England in AD 43.  They are grown on south-facing slopes, ensuring heat accumulation in the day and cold air drainage at night. The vineyard is less than eight miles from the coast, providing a crucial maritime influence insulating the fruit against intense temperature variations.

Château Lestrille holds the Haute Valeur Environmentale (HVE) certification, which officially recognises the environmental performance of winegrowers, including biodiversity conservation, plant protection strategies, managed fertiliser use and water resource management. The vineyard is cultivated using sustainable methods and reducing the amount of chemicals used in order to respect the land and its environment. The soils are predominantly clay and limestone, which produce elegant wines.

2023 Treixadura ‘Expresion’ , Pazo do Mar

    £1895

An aromatic and full-flavoured wine with pure aromas of white orchard fruit and lively citrus notes. Elegant, with a creamy, luscious texture and a lovely crisp, fruity finish.

The aromatic Treixadura variety is a local variety of the Ribeiro region. This slow-ripening white variety can be sensitive, so site selection is paramount. The Pazo do Mar Treixadura vineyard is a testament to this: the grapes for this wine come from the Torre do Olivar vineyard, a viticultural site that dates back to the Middle Ages. In 2002, the vineyard was replanted with the current Treixadura vines. The vineyard sits at an elevation of 150 metres above sea level on a meander of the Miño River, which has a moderating influence on the vines, as they have been oriented to encourage maximum exposure to the sun. The soil is sedimentary with slate components, which retains the warmth of the day and radiates it at night, as Treixadura needs warm soils for optimum quality.

    2020 Estate Riesling, Frankland Estate

    £1895

Another fabulous vintage of Franklin Estates Riesling.  The wine leaps out of the glass with perfumed white citrus florals, spice and grapefruit. A real generosity and poise on the palate. Ripe juicy limes upfront, with a crisp acidity that carries the fruit all the way into a long saline, mineral finish. Elegant yet powerful, it builds layers in the mouth as the wine opens up. Consistent with the now well-established Isolation Ridge style this wine reflects both the low-yielding, dry growing conditions of this site. The balance of pristine fruit flavours and defining acidity result in an exceptional wine that can be enjoyed now or cellared with confidence, as it will continue to develop further complexity for many years to come.

2020 Old Vine Savatiano “Orivatis Wild”, Akriotou

    £1895

A wildly expressive and complex wine, full of lemon, honeysuckle, peach, melon and buttery aromas. Textured and creamy, with concentrated layers of citrus fruit, wet stone, nuances of bread and a delicious honey note through to a long, intense finish.

The grapes are sourced from a single vineyard called ‘Gouriona’, located in Plataea, a small village at the foot of the Kitheronas Mountain, in Central Greece. The vineyard is situated at an altitude of 250 to 320 metres elevation and during the autumn and winter months cool air masses blow down from the mountains, carrying dew which refreshes the vineyard with crucial humidity. Cold winters, hot summers and long, dry autumns combine with long periods of sunshine to enable the grapes to reach excellent maturity and complexity. The Savatiano variety is suited to the hot, dry climate as it has excellent drought resistant properties. The grapes for this wine come from old vines of 60 to 65 years.

A Sauvignon Blanc of precision and purity, with aromas of fresh kaffir lime leaf and white floral notes. Sophisticated and moreish, it delivers abundant fruit flavours, a balanced texture and a crystalline finish.

2023 Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, Auntsfield

Established in 1892, Auntsfield carries the legacy of pioneering winemaking in the region, and today the Cowley family continues to craft wines that are deeply rooted in the estate’s unique terroir. Auntsfield’s approach to Sauvignon Blanc emphasises complexity and mouthfeel, producing wines that go beyond the typical Marlborough style.

Pale straw in the glass, the 2023 Sauvignon Blanc bursts with lifted, pure aromas of fresh passionfruit, ripe citrus, and lime, enhanced by layers of lemongrass, dried herbs, papaya, and a touch of jalapeño for added aromatic intrigue. On the palate, the wine is both powerful and elegant, with ripe flavours of passionfruit juice and white peach seamlessly interwoven with citrus elements of lime zest and mandarin pith. There is remarkable concentration and weight, carried by a taut structure and mineral backbone that creates a lively, balanced tension. The result is a Sauvignon Blanc with not only expressive aromatics and bright fruit, but also a refined, textural finish that lingers.
