  • 2007 Cuchulain Shiraz, SetantaRed Wine

    2007 Cuchulain Shiraz, Setanta

    £2500

This mature Adelaide Hills Shiraz is a delicious drop and a very rare wine.   Being bottled under a stelvin enclosure thas really benefitted this wine and its ageing.    In the glass, it is dark plum in colour with purple hues. A blackcurrant and pepper nose precedes tastes of plum, white pepper and wild black cherries. Excellent use of oak has integrated the soft tannin characters. A Rhone-style Shiraz that is drinking really well!

  • 2007 Peninsula Shiraz, Paringa EstateRed Wine

    2007 Peninsula Shiraz, Paringa Estate

    £4500

This really is cracking wine from the Über Cool Mornington Peninsula.  This Shiraz includes a 5% Viognier component and was matured for 15 months in a combination of new and used barriques.

The bouquet of this wine has spicy blackberry fruit combined with the subtle but distinctive aromatics of viognier. On the palate, the wine has plum/blackberry fruit flavours followed by some black pepper. Good length. Fine-grained tannins with long aftertaste of blackberry, liquorice and black pepper. An excellent cool-climate Shiraz.

As well as being one of the sweetest wines of the vintage it is exceptionally elegant and well-balanced. The nose is marked by intense, icy-cool tropical citrus while the rich yet fresh palate has wonderfully pure, sweet creamy pineapple fruit, plenty of botrytis and fine balancing acidity. The finish is incredibly long and precise. Made from 95% Sémillon and 5% Sauvignon Blanc, this is a magically sensual Sauternes at an outstanding price.

  • 2007 Beaune 1er Cru Champs Pimont, Domaine Jacques PrieurcrasRed Wine

2007 Beaune 1er Cru Champs Pimont, Domaine Jacques Prieurcras

    £9500

At full maturity and drinking beautifully.  Beguiling, rich and stays in the palate for an age.  The grapes for this wine come from a large plot with the evocative name of “Les Champs au pied du Mont” (“The Fields at the Foot of the Mountain”), located on the slope overlooking the outskirts of Beaune. This vineyard, facing due east, produces both red and white wine. The Pinot Noir grapes in the lower part benefit from a very clayey soil that produces deeply-coloured, powerful wines. The high iron content in the soil often accounts for aromas reminiscent of soot or smoke.
