Dessert Wine, Port & Dessert WineSauternes is the world’s most celebrated dessert wine and Doisy Védrines is one of the best. Despite lying next door to Premiers Crus Châteaux Climens and Coutet, it remains under the radar. This is their magnificent, affordable second wine.
Golden in colour, the nose shows caramelised citrus, orange marmalade and honeysuckle. Sweet, but not cloying, there are lovely botrytis flavours intermingled with orange and lime peel and fresh citrus acidity on the generous finish.
Red WineChateau Le Pey is made up of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot and comes from a vineyard area of 32 hectares. The soils here are clay and limestone and the average age of the vines is 20 years of age. The wine spends 12 months in oak of which 25% is new. This Château is situated just north of St-Estèphe.
This excellent value Bordeaux, opens in the glass with an appealing complex bouquet (ripe grapes, wood, and spices). On the palate, it is a full and well-balanced wine.
This organic Monbazillac from Domaine de l’Ancienne Cure is a wonderfully rich sweet wine made from low yields of late-harvested, botrytised, Semillon (90%) and Muscadelle (10%). In the glass, it has a wonderful golden robe, barley sugar bouquet and complex dried fruit palate offset by fine acidity. It has a lovely tawny colour and is richly honeyed with complex notes of dried fruits, nuts and caramel with a heady orange blossom bouquet.
Traditionally, Monbazillac wine is served chilled before the main meal, often as an accompaniment to foie gras, but it makes an equally harmonious partner for fruit-based desserts or cheese, particularly blue cheese. Certified organic.

Pale yellow with green reflections and rich concentrated aromas of white flower and apricot notes. Smooth, medium bodied with good fruit acidity. Pairs well with light meals such as salads, chicken, roast pork and seafood.

The vineyard is situated in the heart of the AOC Bouzeron in the Côte Chalonnaise. The east-facing plot is planted with an Aligoté strain called ‘Golden’, the vines are low yielding and produce exceptionally aromatic grapes. The climate is continental, with warm summers and cold winters and excellent diurnal temperature differences. The vineyard is cultivated using organic preparations and the use of chemical herbicides is strictly prohibited. The double Guyot trained vines are carefully managed between the spring and summer months to ensure optimal conditions for healthy, mature grapes at harvest time; with strict de-budding, leaf thinning and ploughing of the soil. The vines are grown in marly-chalk soils from the Jurassic period.
Red WineOpulent, “Worthy of a grand cru”, according to the Hachette Guide, this pure Merlot is aged in new barrels, a glass of rich, powerful wine with a beautiful balance between roasted aromas and intense black fruit flavours. With velvety tannins and well-integrated oak, the dark berry flavours are complemented by hints of cigar box and a smooth, elegant finish.
2016 has been lauded as an excellent and classic vintage in Bordeaux and this wine certainly lives up to the hype.
Château de Valois is a traditional right-bank Bordeaux from a small property with a growing reputation. Beautifully traditional they blend Merlot and Cabernet Franc grown in iron-rich soils just a stone’s throw from Chateau Figeac and Chateau Cheval Blanc.
The 2016 nose is bursting with blackberries, exotic spice and hints of smoky oak and cedar. On the palate, the texture is rich and generous, with soft tannins. The finish has a good freshness and is full of lingering ripe fruit.
The second wine of Château Cantenac Brown is textured and opulent with rich aromas of red fruits complemented by notes of dark chocolate. Full and round, with the red fruit aromas echoed on the palate, the tannins are seamlessly integrated through to a powerful finish.
The vineyard is managed using sustainable agriculture; strictly plant-based fertilisers are applied in moderation. The Cantenac Brown team uses traditional soil maintenance techniques to enhance the structural, chemical and biological properties of the soil. The vines have an average age of 35 years and are pruned according to the double Guyot method. They are meticulously cared for throughout the year, with pruning; removal of buds, leaves and secondary shoots; thinning out and yield control, all taking place to ensure the highest possible quality.
Red WineChateau Monbrison produce classic claret. The wines are seductive and perfumed on the nose and display a firm but supple structure with excellent depth of fruit on the palate. we think this is a very underrated Margaux and consistency produces great wines that are excellent value and age very well in the short to medium term.
The 2016 Monbrison is delicious and everything you want in a Margaux. In the glass the nose has precise aromas of blueberry, raspberry and crushed violets. The palate is pliant, impeccably balanced with racy tannins. The depth and purity is striking. Drink now to 2035.
Red WinePrecise, intense and expressive wine. This second wine reflects the terroir of Pauillac and pays a fine tribute to Château Haut-Bages Libéral.
The nose is fruity, powerful, well-balanced and offers concentration. It reveals notes of cassis, blackberry and small notes of gravels/terroir associated with nice touches of strawberry/red fruits as well as discreet hints of pepper, liquorice, cardamom and spices. The palate is fruity, well-balanced and offers a good definition, juiciness, a beautiful frame as well as a good roundness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fleshy/juicy cassis and crushed blackberry with touches of red fruits (strawberry, cherry) as well as discreet hints of liquorice and chocolate/tonka bean. Tannins are fine and elegant.
Red WineThe 55-year-old vines are grown in the single vineyard ‘Les Marchais’ which faces the 1er Cru plots of Lavaux St Jacques and clos St Jacques. It is one of the best plots in Gevrey Chambertin. Alluring raspberry and cherry with notes of dried fruits on the nose. Medium to full-bodied with a little earthiness, this well-structured wine shows balanced oak, with fine ripe tannins. Silky and smooth on the palate this is classically elegant.
The Guyot trained vines are planted at a high density with 3,500 vines per hectare. The vineyards are managed using organic fertilisers and without the use of herbicides or insecticides. Ploughing, pruning and green harvests all take place. The vineyard soils are made up of clay and limestone with large chalky pebbles.
Red WineThe Grands Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin are iconic Pinot Noir wines; powerful, virile, complex and intense. This 2016 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru opens in the glass with exquisite aromas of violets, roses and wild strawberries. A touch of violet and underbrush start to emerge as the wine has time in the glass. Pierre Naigeon believes passionately in sustainable farming. He looks to produce wines full of fragrance, revealing the natural terroir. The vines are grown in the Grand Cru vineyard of Charmes Chambertin, in a 25-hectare parcel of 60-year-old vines. The vineyards are meticulously managed with the use of organic fertilisers; no herbicides or insecticides are used. A sustainable approach is undertaken with ploughing, careful pruning and a green harvest.
