  • 2016 Picnic Riesling, Two PaddocksWhite Wine

    2016 Picnic Riesling, Two Paddocks

    £2150

Owned by actor Sam Neill – of Jurassic Park, The Piano and Peaky Blinders fame – Two Paddocks is a fabulous winery in Central Otago that produces outstanding Pinot Noir and Riesling.

Featuring the Proprietor’s Grandfather, Sydney Neill – Wine Merchant, on the label, Picnic Riesling is described by the winery as ‘our perennial favourite and a wonderful introduction to the pleasure of Central Otago Riesling. We think it is just as much a dinner wine as a luncheon – equally enjoyable at home outdoors, as at the Captain’s Table’.

This 2016 vintage is invitingly scented, with lively, youthful, lemon and green apple flavours, a hint of toasty, bottle-aged characters, and good concentration.

2016 Eroica Riesling, Chateau Ste Michelle & Dr Loosen

    £2450

Eroica Riesling is a collaboration between Ernst Loosen from Dr. Loosen and Bob Bertheau from Chateau Ste. Michelle and is without doubt already in its short history Americas greatest Riesling.

In the glass it offers sweet lime and mandarin orange aromas with subtle mineral notes. The mouth-watering acidity is beautifully balanced by flavourful Washington Riesling fruit. Eroica is a blended statement of the finest Riesling vineyards in the state. To achieve the Eroica style they strive for bright fruit with crisp acidity and enhanced mineralilty.

  • 2016 Lorcher Schlossberg Riesling Spätlese, Eva FrickeSweet wine, White Wine

2016 Lorcher Schlossberg Riesling Spätlese, Eva Fricke

    £3500

Eva Fricke is a superstar of the Rheingau, with her 13-hectare estate, that she only started in 2006. Her Rieslings stun with their focus and texture, they are some of the most soulful, expressive wines coming out of Germany today.

The 2016 Lorcher Schlossberg Riesling Spätlese is a late harvest (Spätlese) wine made from vines planted in the early 1970s.   This sweet, intense and concentrated Riesling opens with a bright, aromatic bouquet with some tea aromas. Lush and elegant on the palate with lychee and passion fruit tones.  This is a mouth-filling and generous Spätlese with ripe, juicy fruit and an almost salty minerality.

  • 2016 `Voices of Angels` Shiraz, Charles MeltonRed Wine

    2016 `Voices of Angels` Shiraz, Charles Melton

    £6200

This wine is sourced from the Mount Pleasant vineyard which sits on the boundary of Eden Valley and the Adelaide Hills. Technically, this wine is from the Adelaide Hills, but spiritually the fruit is Eden Valley.

In the glass, it has an almost polished, deep crimson colour with the typical cool site brightness. Quite evident high-quality French oak showing at the moment, but this youthful stage will pass, with the fruit increasing in volume and complexity over the next few years. The wine spent a full 29 months ageing on lees to develop a real roundness and tongue coating glycerol sweetness. The density of structure rather than the sheer size is a commanding feature of this vintage and this wine illustrates that perfectly.
