Nuances of red bell pepper combine with a hint of spice, white pepper and clove over deep, rich fruits. Full-bodied and textured on the palate with rounded tannins, big fruit flavours and a spicy, persistent finish. The grapes were grown in vineyards located in the Uco Valley, at over 1,300 metres above sea level. The area is characterised by its wide diurnal temperature range, which produces grapes with a great intensity of colour and a distinctive aromatic expression.

In the glass, it is a golden colour with slight greenish tones, the nose has notes of green apples, pear and hints of toast and butter. It is fresh in the mouth with a marked mineral presence and a long and unctuous finish.
Described by Decanter Magazine as ‘a pure style that’s astonishingly affordable.’
Awarded 97+ points by Oz Clarke who described the 2018 Chardonnay: ‘Up there with the best Chardonnays, I have tasted from Argentina. The vineyards are on the coast just south of Buenos Aires – an experiment, a risk, a dream – and it works; this beauty swirls with oatmeal, hazelnut, soft white apple flesh, peach and honey. It’s scented with apple blossom and honeysuckle and its lemon acidity is as subtle as the cotton that threads through a silken bedsheet.’

This is a characterful and bright Sauvignon Blanc showcasing mineral intensity combined with enticing white peach notes. The wonderful volume and texture on the palate is balanced by refreshing acidity, through to a persistent finish.
The grapes are grown in a high altitude, drip irrigated single vineyard in Tupungato, Gualtallary, in the outstanding vine-growing area of the Uco Valley. Located at 1,350 metres above sea-level, Gualtallary is the highest vine-growing zone in the Province of Mendoza, situated at the foot of the Tupungato volcano. This zone is characterised by its combination of altitude, alluvial soils, sunny days, low rainfall and wide temperature ranges. The diurnal temperatures here oscillate between 35°C and 17°C, creating long, slow ripening periods; concentrating the flavours in the fruit while retaining refreshing balance. Rich in body and very well balanced with fresh acidity, it shows supple and elegant tannins that benefit from 14 months of maturation in French oak barrels.

The Vistalba vineyards are located in Lujan de Cuyo and are situated at an altitude of 1,050 metres above sea level. The continental climate is characterised by cold winters and mild summers, with warm days and cool nights. The heat assists the promotion of sugar levels in the ripening grapes, while the coolness of the night retains the acidity level, achieving healthy and balanced berries. The average rainfall is 200mm and the traditional technique of flooding is used for irrigating the vines. The average age of the vines is 60 years; planted as “ espaldero” (vertical shoot position) resulting in a naturally low yield which results in a fresh wine of great concentration. The Vistalba soils are clay, loamy soils above the rocky subsoil. This soil has good drainage, promoting the healing and growth of roots.

The 2018 Decero Mini Ediciones Cabernet Franc is one of their ‘rare varieties & limited edition’ wines. Of this vintage, only 7,192 bottles were made. The wine shows nuances of pepper, graphite and plum notes with fresh aromatics and taut acidity resulting in a well-structured, elegant Cabernet Franc with great potential for ageing.

The 2017 Finca Decero Mini Ediciones Petit Verdot is a bold and expressive red wine crafted from the best grapes grown on the estate’s high-altitude vineyards in Mendoza, Argentina. Made from 100% Petit Verdot grapes that have been carefully harvested and hand-selected before being aged for 14 months in French oak barrels. The result is a deeply concentrated wine with intense aromas of dark berries, toasted oak, and hints of spice. On the palate, this wine is full-bodied with rich and complex flavours of black cherry, black currant, and vanilla. The finish is long and smooth, leaving an unforgettable impression.
Of this 2017 vintage, only 9,936 bottles were made.

2018 Old Vines Trousseau From Patagonia, Matias Riccitelli

The Trousseau grapes come from the traditional vine-growing sites of Allen and Ing Heuergo in the province of Rio Negro, Patagonia, approximately halfway between the Andes Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. Situated on the 39° latitude south, the sunlight exposure is more intense than in northern areas, but at this latitude, the nights are much colder. This daily diurnal temperature range is excellent for the production of quality grapes; the nightly cooling-off extends the ripening period, allowing the grapes to develop rich varietal characteristics while retaining balancing acidity. The low yielding vines were planted at the beginning of the 1970s and they are ungrafted allowing for complete interaction between the silty soils and the vine. The vines are cultivated naturally following organic principles resulting in wines that are expressive of the terroir and their varietal characteristics. The grapes are hand-harvested once they have reached optimal maturity. The long-forgotten variety of Trousseau is a dark-skinned variety that originated in Jura, France and is a synonym for Bastardo.
