  • 2019 Linda Vista Chardonnay, MatthiassonWhite Wine

    2019 Linda Vista Chardonnay, Matthiasson

    £3750

Steve Matthiasson is a bit of a legend in Napa Valley and this wine is made from the Linda Vista Vineyard in the Oak Knoll region of Napa Valley.  Oak Knoll is regarded as one of the classic Chardonnay spots in Napa as the cool winds and clay soils preserve zesty acidity and freshness, while the Napa sun provides richness and ripeness.

Steve leased the vineyard in 2011 and set about making a classic Napa Chardonnay.  To get complexity, completeness and balance in his Chardonnay, Steve harvests grapes a number of different times during the ripening period to achieve a diversity of ripeness, the earlier harvests contribute acidity and minerality, and the later harvests contribute flesh and richness.

This 2019 Linda Vista Chardonnay has an exotic nose of Golden Delicious apples, yellow peaches, musk melon and honey that leads through to the palate. The medium acidity is balanced by pleasant fleshiness, finishing very clean with a hint of minerality. Refreshing and with moderate alcohol, this wine is all about pleasure, begging to be drunk up, with some oysters or a roast chicken and a big smile.

  • 2019 Chardonnay, SanfordWhite Wine

    2019 Chardonnay, Sanford

    £3900

A luxurious and elegant Chardonnay with enticing notes of grilled peach, lemon and toasted hazelnuts. The palate of bright fruit and honeycomb is beautifully framed by crisp acidity and has a rich texture that carries through to the long, clean finish.

The fruit comes exclusively from the two estate vineyards in the cool-climate area of Sta. Rita Hills AVA: the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard and the La Rinconada Vineyard. The unusual east-west orientation of the nearby Santa Ynez Mountains, allows cooling maritime breezes from the Pacific Ocean- just seven miles away- to flow over the vineyards, bringing with them morning fog. Afternoon breezes dry out any residual moisture and reduce disease pressure on the vines and clusters. This distinctive mesoclimate promotes a long growing season. The vineyard is split into 52 blocks, each with individual soil composition and microclimate. Broadly, the marine-based soils in the ‘Sanford & Benedict Vineyard’ are a mixture of clay, loam, fractured shale and chert (rocky soil) which force the vine’s roots to dig deep into the soil for nutrients and hydration. The result is naturally low yields of small-berried, concentrated fruit delivering excellent minerality and acidity. The ‘La Rinconada Vineyard’ is made up of sandy, gravelly soil, which imparts precise minerality.

  • 2019 Croft Chardonnay, Henschke Wine Republic Heros White Wine

    2019 Croft Chardonnay, Henschke

    £3995

Seductive aromas of pear skin, grapefruit, white stone-fruit, citrus blossom and white flowers are complemented by hints of apple, lemon curd, clove spice and toasted almonds. Intense and focussed, the palate shows layer upon layer of pear and white peach, tightly wound by a deliciously creamy texture, and perfectly balanced with nectarine acidity and subtle oak nuances, for a powerful yet elegantly restrained, lingering finish.

Fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke and his wife Prue purchased the Lenswood property in the Adelaide Hills in 1981. At 550 metres above sea level, the Lenswood vineyard offers not only magnificent views over the traditional vine country but also higher rainfall and humidity, cooler temperatures to retain high natural acidity, yet still enough sunshine to fully ripen the grapes. The chardonnay vineyard, which consists of seven clones, has taken its name from Frederick Croft, an orchardist who took up a neighbouring property in 1938.

  • 2019 Estate Chardonnay, Ten Minutes By TractorWhite Wine

2019 Estate Chardonnay, Ten Minutes By Tractor

    £4200

Ten Minutes by Tractor needs little introduction, nor does the man in charge – Martin Spedding. A gently-spoken man with a background in finance and IT, in 2002, he finally acknowledged the fact that his true passion lay in wine. Despite his origins in New South Wales, he simply couldn’t get enough of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and would travel down to Victoria to immerse himself in Australia’s heartland of these noble varieties. In 2003 he visited one of his favourite small wineries on Mornington Peninsula and was delighted to discover that it was for sale. Without a moment’s hesitation, he snapped it up, and so began Martin’s journey with Ten Minutes by Tractor.

Aged in a mixture of new and old French oak barrels for 11 months.  An exotic nose of curry leaf and spice with hints of honeydew and flint form the backbone of this multiple site Chardonnay. While the acid is tight, it creates a strong drive through the palate that is met by bursts of citrus peel with a fine finish.

  • 2019 Fixin Blanc, Jean-Claude BoissetWhite Wine

    2019 Fixin Blanc, Jean-Claude Boisset

    £4250

This 2019 Fixin Blanc is a beautiful pale yellow colour that displays intense aromas of white peach and stone fruit, with hints of almond and gentle spice from time in oak. The palate is vibrant and fresh yet full-bodied and complex, and the finish long. Just 1500 bottles were produced.  According to winemaker Grégory Patriat, the 2019 vintage will go down as a legendary one, just like 1969, 1979, 1999 and 2009. The summer months were very dry and the yields were much lower than normal due to the lack of water in the vineyards. However, this also resulted in smaller berries and highly concentrated aromas and flavours with the health of the grapes harvested exceptional. Harvest began in mid September.

This is the first vintage of Grégory’s Fixin Blanc which comes from a tiny plot within the very small Fixin appellation. Fixin is a village at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits. Apart from its neighbour, Marsannay, Fixin is the most northerly appellation in the Côte de Nuits, covering roughly 90 hectares. It is known principally for Pinot Noir. There are just 5 hectares planted to Chardonnay. Boisset’s Fixin Blanc comes from a small plot of 40 year old vines which are located beneath the famous 1er Cru ‘Clos du Chapitre’ on clay and limestone soils.

  • 2019 Meursault Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Florent GaraudetWhite Wine

2019 Meursault Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Florent Garaudet

    £5700

2019 has been cited as an outstanding vintage and one of the best in recent years. The dry, warm conditions produced low yields of impeccably balanced, concentrated wines with searing freshness and remarkable purity.

In the glass this wine opens with elegant aromas of brioche, fresh butter and delicate citrus notes which lead to a rich, opulent palate of ripe citrus fruits through to a long, rich and satisfying finish.

The 60-year old vines are grown in a Hospice de Beaune parcel, just under the Meursault 1er Cru vineyard of ‘Les Santenots’ and are planted at a density of 10,000 to 11,000 per hectare. The clay-limestone soils are formed on alluvial stones and produce rich, textured wines. The vines are sustainably cultivated to respect the equilibrium of the environment, with the objective of limiting treatments to what is strictly necessary to obtain a harvest in the best possible condition.

2019 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru En Virondot, Domaine Marc Morey

    £9500

Domaine Marc Morey is one of our favourite producers and we think winemaker Sabine Mollard, Marc Morey’s granddaughter, is something rather special.

This 2019 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru En Virondot opens in the glass with a very full, very intense nose, ripe fruit,  refined and mineral, with a hint of butter, vanilla and well-integrated wood nuances. Full and quite powerful on the tongue, broad, complex and mineral, perfect balance, long and mouth-filling finish with pure minerality, all well wrapped in elegant wood nuances. AMAZING!

Marc Morey is the only domaine that farms and bottles the 2.1 hectares premier cru ‘En Virondot’. The vineyard is at one of the highest elevations in the Chassagne-Montrachet at 350 meters lying just west of some notable premier cru vineyards; Les Caillerets, Les Fairendes, and Les Champ Gains. Beneath the shallow topsoil, the vineyard sits on a bed of calcareous (chalk) soil that imparts a specific minerality and texture to the wines. Sabine Mollard, owner, and winemaker says this vineyard has the greatest ageing potential of all her premier cru bottlings.

  • 2019 Chardonnay ‘B.A. Thieriot Vineyard’, SensesWhite Wine

2019 Chardonnay ‘B.A. Thieriot Vineyard’, Senses

    £18500

This Chardonnay comes from the famed Thieriot Vineyard, over the years, the grapes from these blocks have been sold to top- class producers in the region. Vintage after vintage, this vineyard consistently produces high-scoring single vineyard wines and is renowned as being one of the premier vineyards on the Sonoma Coast.

With incredibly salty minerality, this racy style shows beautiful lemon curd, floral notes and brioche notes through to toasty, hazelnut nuances and a rich palate with flawless balance and an exquisite finish.

2019 stands out as one of the more exceptional vintages in recent memory. Cooler temperatures and stable weather throughout the growing season allowed for slow maturation of flavours without any heat events spiking sugar accumulation in the berries. Although 2019 also saw the devastating Kincade fire in Sonoma County, the fruit was harvested by then, so the smoke did not affect the grapes.

2019 Chardonnay ‘Vine Hill Vineyard’, Kistler

    £19500

2019 marks the 40th vintage of Kistler and what a vintage it is!

“This is a gorgeous set of wines from Kistler. The 2019 Chardonnays show the pedigree of the vintage in their nuance, character and site expression.”   Antonio Galloni of Vinous.com

The 2019 Vine Hill Vineyard Chardonnay as described by the winemaker: Green-tinged pale yellow. Bold aromas of freshly peeled Gravensteins, lime blossom, powdered rock, deep earthen undertones and roasted grains. Expressive and deeply concentrated while tightly wound given its low pH nature. A long lingering finish speaks to the purity of the extract. One of the best examples of the mineral tones informed by the growing medium of certain soils and a classic manifestation of the seamless tension between weight and energy from the sands of the Vine Hill Vineyard.
