Crafted solely from hand-harvested Chardonnay grapes, Domaine Altugnac Chardonnay undergoes fermentation and aging in stainless steel tanks, complete with malolactic fermentation, ensuring the preservation of its freshness and varietal essence. Despite hailing from a warm region, winemakers Jean-Luc and Christian masterfully maintain acidity, tension, and vibrancy in this white wine. This particular vintage bears a striking resemblance to Chablis, boasting a pale straw hue and aromas reminiscent of lemon confit, white flowers, green apple, white peach, and yuzu. On the palate, it is bright and invigorating, enveloped by a mineral core that culminates in a lifted finish.

The grapes come from the AOP Côtes de Roussillon, where the vineyards are located within a natural amphitheatre open to the Mediterranean Sea, and surrounded by mountain ranges. The climate is Mediterranean, strongly influenced by cooling coastal breezes combined with mountain freshness from the foothills of the Pyrenees which offer balance to the hot, arid summers. The Domaine Gardiés vineyards nestle in the foothills of Corbières, where the clay- limestone of the scrubland gives this a part of the Domaine’s soil its characteristic finesse. The climate is Mediterranean, the hot, arid summers encouraging the vines to struggle and send their roots deep into the soil in search of nutrients, resulting in complex wines. The low-yielding vines produce 30 hl/ha. The region is characterised by the eight different types of wind blow across the wine growing area and, one day out of three, the mighty Tramontane, a dominating northerly wind, sweeps through the region. These drying winds help keep vineyards in a healthy condition, reducing the need for pest control or other human intervention. Domaine Gardiés is certified organic, the vines are hand-harvested and biodiversity in the vineyard is encouraged.

The Sancerre appellation in Central France surrounds the eponymous town, which sits atop a hill overlooking the River Loire. The grapes for this cuvée are grown in vineyards which are located on these hilly slopes and are planted across the three main soil types of Sancerre. Les Caillottes, which is made up of a high proportion of stony fragments of coarse Kimmeridgian limestone upon a clay subsoil and the wines from these soils impart aromatic structure and freshness; Les Terres Blanches which are made up of Kimmeridgian marl and is extremely rich in fossilised shellfish and has the distinctive characteristic of turning white when it dries, hence its local name, which translates as ‘white earth’. These wines from this soil offer complexity, opulence and great aromatic finesse. Finally the flinty Silex soils which impart minerality; all three soils types have the common thread of a high proportion of clay.

The vineyard has an abundance of rounded quartzite stones, known as “Galet Roulés”, which derive from the Villafranchian period. These stones absorb heat during the day then radiate it at night, promoting full grape maturity.

This 2021 is a rich and opulent wine with ripe blackcurrant aromas layered with notes of the garrigue and cistus (a hardy shrub) flowers. Full-bodied but with a soft texture on the palate; this wine retains the estate’s characteristic elegance whilst embracing a modern style of winemaking. Ripe fruits combine with notes of cocoa and cherry and a hint of liquorice on the finish.
Domaine de la Solitude has one of the best terroirs in Châteauneuf-du-Pape with its abundance of rounded quartzite stones from the Villafranchian period. These stones absorb heat during the day then radiate it at night, promoting full grape maturity. Yielding just 30 hectolitres per hectare, the vines are carefully managed throughout the year. The grapes are hand-harvested, once each variety has reached full maturity, which is based on tastings undertaken by an expert panel. The vineyard is farmed sustainably; the domain promotes and develops biodiversity in the vineyard by maintaining a flourishing wine-growing ecosystem.
