Craie Blanc de Blancs, Champagne Henri Giraud *Gift Box*

    £7500

Crafted with precision and purity, Craie Blanc de Blancs from Champagne Henri Giraud is an elegant expression of Chardonnay.  “Craie,” meaning chalk, pays homage to the pure chalk soils of the Montagne de Reims, which impart an unmistakable minerality and tension to the wine.

Vinified entirely in Argonne oak barrels, sourced and crafted under Henri Giraud’s strict sustainability and traceability standards, the wine undergoes fermentation and ageing on lees in these fine-grained barrels. This approach marries Chardonnay’s finesse with the nuanced influence of the forest, yielding a wine of both precision and depth. The lees ageing contributes texture, while the use of indigenous yeasts preserves the authenticity of its origin. As with all of Henri Giraud’s Champagnes, no stainless steel is used, emphasising a philosophy rooted in nature and tradition.

In the glass, Craie Blanc de Blancs reveals a luminous pale gold hue with a fine, persistent mousse. The nose is pure and lifted, offering vibrant aromas of citrus zest, white flowers, crushed chalk, and delicate notes of fresh almond and brioche. On the palate, it is incisive and elegant, with flavours of lemon curd, white peach, and wet stone, underpinned by subtle oak spice and a saline edge. The texture is creamy yet tightly coiled, with racy acidity and a precise, mineral-driven finish that lingers with poise.

Champagne Grand Cru Avize Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs 1740, Champagne Valentin Leflaive

    £7900

The Leflaive family is renowned for its exemplary work across the most prestigious appellations on the Côte d’Or, in Burgundy. With this background, it is no surprise that Valentin Leflaive applied the family’s know-how with tremendous success to plot selections in the Champagne region from 2020. A proportion of the wines are aged in old Burgundy barrels, which have previously been used to age the Puligny-Montrachet and Montrachet wines of the Maison Olivier Leflaive, and which now help to bring out the complexity of these Champagne cuvées.

A new player in the Champagne sector, Valentin Leflaive is also at the forefront of wines’ provenance and transparency, with each cuvée proudly bearing its very own characteristics – while the letters express the terroir, the numbers indicate the year of the base and dosage.

The Grand Cru Avize Extra Brut 1740 is a pure and expressive Champagne, made exclusively from Chardonnay grown in the chalk-rich slopes of Avize in the Côte des Blancs. In the glass, it shimmers a pale gold with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose is precise and mineral-driven, opening with aromas of citrus zest, white flowers, and fresh almond, underscored by subtle hints of chalk and oyster shell. On the palate, it is taut and elegant, showing a creamy mousse that supports notes of lemon curd, green apple, and pink grapefruit. A delicate salinity and crystalline minerality carry through to the long, clean finish. With its refined structure and energy, this cuvée captures the poise of Grand Cru Avize and the finesse of meticulous winemaking.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2020-chardonnay-russian-river-valley-senses/">2020 Chardonnay, Senses</a>

    2020 Chardonnay, Senses

    £7995

A beautifully textured Chardonnay with bright crunchy fruit notes complemented by hints of honeysuckle, lime blossom and beeswax through to a gingery kick on the finish.

2020 shows excellent concentration and very clean fruit, which makes for age-worthy Chardonnay with high acidity and ripe fruit characteristics.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2022-napa-valley-chardonnay-chateau-montelena/">2022 Napa Valley Chardonnay, Chateau Montelena</a>

2022 Napa Valley Chardonnay, Chateau Montelena

    £8650

This is an incredible vintage of Chateau Montelena’s flagship Chardonnay.

In the glass it has a bright gold in colour and is incredibly aromatic, the ripeness of the vintage is most pronounced initially; melon, perfume, and orange blossom slowly give way to fresh peach, honeysuckle and apricot. There is very little overt oak influence on the nose, although it comes across subtly in the background as pie crust and toast.

On the palate, it’s the suppleness and silky mouthfeel that strike first, although there’s abundant mango and citrus with Meyer lemon here as well. The minerality is chalky and distinct, a beautiful contrast that layers in with the acid adding both complexity and depth.

The finish is exceptional: There’s slightly more wood on the transition to the finish, surfacing as baking spice and crème brûlée. However, they’re handily overwhelmed by notes of Asian pear, mango and pineapple— absolutely delicious. In time, expect hazelnuts and almonds to appear.

Dame Jane Rose, Champagne Henri Giraud *Gift Box*

    £8850

Dame Jane Rosé is a striking and elegant expression of Champagne Henri Giraud’s deep connection to Pinot Noir and its Aÿ Grand Cru terroir. Named in tribute to the traditional terracotta amphorae (known as “Dame-Jane” in French) used in its ageing, this rosé stands apart for its purity, texture, and unique approach to maturation.

Sourced exclusively from the historic chalk and clay-rich vineyards of Aÿ, this cuvée is composed predominantly of Pinot Noir, with a small portion of Chardonnay. What makes Dame Jane truly singular is its vinification and ageing in terracotta amphorae, which allows the wine to breathe and evolve gently without imparting oak character. This natural micro-oxygenation enhances purity, amplifies minerality, and preserves the vibrancy of the fruit, resulting in a rosé Champagne that is both structured and ethereal.

In the glass, Dame Jane Rosé reveals a delicate rose-gold hue with a refined and persistent mousse. The nose is expressive and graceful, with layered aromas of wild strawberries, red currants, blood orange, rose petals, and a touch of crushed herbs. On the palate, it is textured yet precise, delivering juicy red berry fruit, citrus zest, and a subtle spice note, all framed by a fine mineral backbone and a long, mouthwatering finish. Its balance of creamy mouthfeel and fresh acidity speaks to both craftsmanship and terroir.

Dame Jane Rosé is a Champagne of rare character and charm – vibrant, refined, and exquisitely detailed. It is a tribute to ancient methods, Grand Cru provenance, and the elegance of Pinot Noir in its purest form.

    2022 Meursault, Ropiteau Frères

    £8900

Founded in 1848 by Jean Ropiteau, a visionary just 24 years old at the time, Ropiteau Frères quickly established itself as one of Burgundy’s most respected houses. The arrival of the railway into Meursault enabled the young merchant to expand the reputation of Burgundy’s wines well beyond the region’s borders. Over the decades, the house remained deeply rooted in Meursault, acquiring prestigious parcels and cellars, including a property once belonging to the Hospice de Beaune. Today, Ropiteau Frères is renowned as a specialist in the Côte de Beaune, and particularly in Meursault, crafting wines that express the richness, minerality, and nuance of this world-famous terroir.

2022 Lion’s Tooth Chardonnay, Pyramid Valley

    £9200

Pyramid Valley, established by Mike and Claudia Weersing, is a boutique powerhouse in Waipara’s limestone-rich Omihi Hills. They harness old vine Mendoza clones (planted 1982–1990) on cool clay soils to craft site-specific Chardonnay known for its balance of finesse and depth.

The 2022 Lion’s Tooth Chardonnay is a world-class wine and a benchmark New Zealand Chardonnay for lovers of site-expressive wines.

In the glass, it opens with a bouquet of white blossom, lemon curd, and ripe stone fruit, underpinned by flinty reduction and hints of cashew and crushed seashells. The palate is taut and energetic, offering a seamless interplay between citrus, nectarine, and wet stone minerality. A silky, gently oxidative texture from wild ferment and extended lees ageing adds depth, while the wine’s brisk acidity and restrained oak frame the fruit with precision.

Lion’s Tooth takes its name from the abundance of dandelions, often dismissed as weeds, that grow freely among the vines, a nod to the estate’s biodynamic ethos, where such plants are seen as vital contributors to soil health and ecological balance.
