Tangy lime and green apple crunch with a richer, deeper, biscuit and sourdough undertone. The zingy citrus and creamy lees flavours are well balanced with acidity and fruit in complete harmony. It is poised and elegant with a lingering aftertaste.

Intense notes of pineapple and vanilla with a very long finish. This Chardonnay has a great character and an impressive length.

    After whole bunch pressing the wine ages on its lees for five months in French oak which adds subtle vanilla and toasty notes to the intense tropical pineapple flavours and aromas.

    The Chardonnay grapes come from the estate vineyard in Stellenbosch. The vineyards benefit from being 14 kilometres from False Bay, where the strong maritime influence cools the vineyards in the hot, summer months, ensuring good levels of natural grape acidity in the final wine, central to the Mulderbosch style of fresh, balanced wines. The soil is made up of decomposed sandstone with some granitic conglomerate stones, known as ‘Koffieklip’. This iron-ferrite rich soil produces wines with more minerality and intensity.

    Crafted from hand-harvested fruit, it was barrel-fermented and aged in a mix of large oak vats and smaller barrels, and yet the oak, even at this young stage, is not dominant.  It has great concentration with excellent refreshing natural acidity which alludes to it being made from old vines.

    In the glass, it is a shimmery gold colour with aromas apple, white peach, citrus, wildflowers and light oak spice.  The palate is textured but crystalline, creamy and citrusy, flashy but classic—in short, everything you could ask for in a Burgundy Chardonnay!   Drink now to 2027.   Match with roast chicken or rich seafood like lobster, scallops or Turbot.

    The fusion of time-honoured tradition, passion and contemporary techniques, enables San Marzano to produce wines with distinctive varietal and regional characteristics while reflecting the local terroir.  The vineyard is located at approximately 100 metres above sea level and benefits from great diurnal temperature variation.
    Fermentation took place in French oak barrels. Following this, the wine was matured on its fine lees in barriques for a period of four months, with weekly lees stirring which imparted texture and complexity.

    A family of winemakers since the 19th century the Michel family vineyards are planted on the first slopes to be farmed by Cistercian monks during the 11th century.

    The 25 hectares encapsulate 3 Grand Crus and 7 Premier Crus as well as Chablis and Petit Chablis terroir. Guillaume Michel runs the domaine now, 80% of the vines are farmed organically, he is strictly sustainable in the vineyards with the highest level of HVE certification. Biodiversity is vital to their work with hedgerow populations of insects and a population of bees humming through the vineyards. In the winery, the wines are vinified only in stainless steel, using natural yeasts to preserve the expression of terroir in its purest form. Without the presence of oxygen in the early stages of their development these wines take longer to express themselves in bottle, but richly reward those who wait.

    This 2020 Petit Chablis comes from a very special vineyard overlooking the Valmur and Les Clos grand crus. It will reveal floral notes of hawthorn and grape blossom. The wine is particularly lively in the mouth, with sea breezes and a delicious chalky finish.

The vines have an average age of 50 years, with deep root systems penetrating the layers of soil, imparting complexity to the resulting wine.

The marine influence of the nearby Monterey Bay and the morning fog which clears for the afternoon sun, results in a cool mesoclimate and a long hang-time for the fruit. The grapes reflect the cool climate character, with complex aromatics and flavours and natural balancing acidity. The vineyard is cultivated sustainably and are certified by the California Sustainable Wine Growing Alliance.

    As a vine nursery fieldman, Andrew Jones has spent many hours exploring vineyards, planning, planting, and chatting with farmers all over the Central Coast. He began spotting more and more interesting and overlooked vineyards – often rocky, wilder sites located closer to the Pacific, farmed mindfully by clients who have become friends over many years.  This Chardonnay is sourced from Edna Valley.
